Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day 10

I think I have a hit for the 4th of July parade

The last day of the challenge is here! I think I have learned a lot. I’ve explored options I wouldn’t have thought of on my own. I’m not sure I like them all, but that’s what style is about; doing what works for you. If you can walk out your front door and feel comfortable and confident with what you are wearing, if it says “you”, then that’s A-OK. The person walking down the street doesn’t have to like it, you may not care for their “style”. Your style may not be for them, but then again you may inspire them to try something new!

I think this spring wardrobe challenge has given me spring fever. So much that the other night I packed away most of my winter wear. Guess what I had to pull back out yesterday? Maybe, just maybe, I will actually be able to wear one of these outfits from the past two weeks out and about one day….I will let you know when that happens!

Here is the outfit idea for today’s look. This was another idea I had to improvise on a bit.

I tried print mixing, again. It was not exactly one of my most favorite looks. This dress was in the original capsule idea. It is a cool and comfortable seersucker dress, but I must say it isn’t my favorite. There is just something about it, that bothers me, but I have not been able to put my finger on it. I have worn it several times in spite of that, but each time I think about donating it. Even after this exercise, I still don’t know what I think about it. Stripes are a big trend this year, so it may hang around for a bit, at least until I find something I like better.

I decided to add the floral “mens inspired” shirt from the initial capsule today. This was the attempt at print mixing. I’m not sure if I like it or not. It is certainly different. The group felt the white shirt was better. Some thought this mix was too “out of the box”, for them; what do you think about it? I almost like it better. I think the white is just blah, too predictable, “normal”. I tried two different shoes options but like the tan sandals best, but don’t really care for them with the dress. This dress has always been hard to find shoes for too. I think I am going talk this dress to the donate pile here soon, lol! I imagine a short denim jacket might look cute with this. What do you think about that?

The dress is from Old Navy. The white shirt is the one from previous days and is from JJill. The blue floral shirt is by Wendy Williams via HSN.

Below are the accessories I chose for today. Since the overall look was very neutral and monotone, I tried to add some color with the jewelry. I think I have a hit for the 4th of July parade!

The bag is by Sharif and came from HSN as did the tan sandals; which are by Vince Camuto. They are from previous days. The white wedge sandals are from Aerosoles. I didn’t care for them with this dress, but they work nicely with the dress from day 1 to dress it up a bit. They also work nicely with ankle jeans. All of todays jewelry is Plunder. The necklace is called Boho, the earrings are Nancy (they have sold out), the bangles I’ve heard are being discontinued. the red “fierce” one called Frances; has sold out. It came with my “starter kit” when I first signed up with Plunder. I wasn’t sure I cared for it, but then when I joined The Fierce 50 Movement I knew I had to keep it. The blue one that says “soar” is called Skye. As of now it is still available, but come Monday when the spring catalog launches, it may not be. Today is the last day to order under the party link for March, it is: www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/ If you’ve been waiting to order; don’t wait any longer. Items are selling out fast and many will not be back. Unfortunately, I am not “in the know” enough to be able to tell you what will be gone for good.

I have really enjoyed sharing this spring challenge series with you. I hope you have gotten something from it too. I will take one day next week to recap my capsule. I’m not quite sure what day yet. I have a lot of other things I want to share with you. If you would like to be put on Sylvia’s mailing list you can sign up at: www.40plusstyle.com

Thank you for caring and sharing. The subscriber list is growing and the Facebook page has hit over 200 followers! Twitter is growing as well. I have also add Instagram page and Pinterest; I will be linking to those shortly.  I’m only “semi-techie” so it takes me a few days,  to get it all together, lol.

Have a great weekend y’all!

Until the next time

Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day 9

I just feel downright sassy in the polka dot dress

Day 9-I am so off the mark on this one it isn’t even funny, but I tried to make the most with what I already had to work with. Maybe my imagination had run thin by today (and since I can have quite an imagination…..I just couldn’t think of anything else, so I went classic.

Here was the outfit assignment for today.

Remember my colorful top from the other day, the teal sweater? I could have used that over my dress from the day 1 assignment to try to give it a skirt look, the way I did with tied mens inspired shirt, but it really didn’t work. The color worked well, but other than that it was a disaster. In hindsight I could have photographed it, so that I could point out why it didn’t work, but time wise that wasn’t an option.

After thinking about what I did have, and not wanting to buy something just for the sake of buying, I decided to try two different dresses that I’ve had for a while. I used a floral and a polka-dotted one. I think I must have had that awesome tote bag on the brain, it seems I was channeling my inner Jackie, Lucy, and maybe even Marilyn, LOL.

Honestly the blue polka dot dress is my favorite, of the two. When I saw this I honestly thought of Lucy! I even expressed that to my daughter and daughter in law (we were on a Saturday shopping trip)and I call it my Lucy dress. Both of these were among the first dresses I purchased after reaching my goal weight. The floral one was for Easter that year. In looking at these in a photograph, I think the polka dot one gives me a slimmer look. Especially through the shoulder area, and the wider belt makes for a slimmer looking waist, giving me more of an hourglass appearance.

My body type is a cross between hourglass and rectangle. I don’t completely fit hourglass; which is defined by having a bust and hip measurement being the same with a smaller waist, but is also usually associated with having a large bust. That, I do not have!  The rectangle is defined as having similar measures of bust, waist, and hip.  So I feel that I’m a combination.

The floral dress came from Dress Barn and the shoes from PayLess. The seed pearl set is more than 30 years old. I can’t remember what store “The Man” bought it at, but it was a Christmas gift that year. I remember it was a catalog store like that old “Service Merchandise” store (for those who may remember them).  Back then we had very little money, not that we are “rolling in the dough” now, and three little kids to raise. It was very inexpensive, but more than he really should have spent, and has a lot of sentimental value.

Now I just feel downright sassy in the polka dot dress! It really has that 50’s vibe to me. The one thing I dislike, somewhat, about it is the higher neck. It makes it harder to accessorize. Some of the ladies in the group, suggested not wearing a necklace with either of them; especially pearls with polka dots. I understand their thought process, but I will wear my pearls with it, lol!

The dress came from Charlotte Russe. This store caters mainly to a younger demographic, but there is no reason why those of us who aren’t quite in that group can not shop there also. There may some things that aren’t for us, but I’m reasonably sure there is something that will appeal to and look good on you. I showed you two different shoe options with this one. The Navy sling backs, with a kitten heel are a perfect complement to the style and era of this dress. The came from DSW. The white peep toe pumps are from PayLess and work with it too and although I think they look just fine; I prefer the navy ones. The jewelry is from Plunder. The necklace is called Paxton and the bracelet Feather and Pearl; both are sold out and discontinued at this time. What are your thoughts on this days ensembles? Which look is your favorite? Why? What do you think about the pearls; yes or no? One member of the group suggested I try the teal shoes with the polka dots; for a fun twist. I haven’t had a chance to do that yet. Do you have any thoughts about that?

Tomorrow will be the last day of this challenge and exercise. I hope you’ve enjoyed finding out about what I’ve learned. If you haven’t signed up for Sylvia’s newsletter at www.40plusstyle.com head over and do so. You can also get on the waiting list for the course yourself. I will do a bit of a recap one day next week, using the entire capsule. I don’t know what day though; I have a lot of other things to share with you before then! So stay tuned!

As you know, I’m trying to grow the subscriber list here on the blog, along with Facebook and twitter. With your help, by liking, commenting, and sharing my postings; that is happening. I really do appreciate your support. Interacting on Facebook is crucial. They have some weird algorithm that determines what gets seen and what doesn’t, so the more you interact there, the closer the blog gets pushed to the top of the list.

Until the next time

Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day-8

I went wild and tried some print mixing

“Hump Day”. We are coming up on the end of this style exercise. It’s been fun, interesting,  enlightening, and exhausting! I will be glad for a bit of a break. It will give me time to go over all that I’ve done, learned, and I’ll be able to sit down and digest it.

Below is the outfit inspiration for todays look. I bet you know I still have not jumped on that wide-legged pants bandwagon. I haven’t gone out to explore that option anymore either. I’m not saying I won’t, but……

Here is my LOTD-look of the day. Finally, a true cold shoulder top/blouse and flowers combined.  This is my first ever cold shoulder top. For a long time I wouldn’t even consider them, then when I got the nerve to try one; I didn’t like it. It was a sweater though and I think it may have been one reason. Sweater for winter and cold shoulder together doesn’t quite make much sense to me, especially living in the Mid-Atlantic-Maryland the most northern-southern state, lol! Maybe I still have some work to do and a way to go!

I don’t know that I feel completely comfortable in this yet, but I also haven’t been able to actually wear it out. At times I think I look like a linebacker. I’ve recently looked at pictures of others wearing this look; young and older (?) alike and think the same thing, so it’s not just me. Right now I think, I feel more comfortable in sleeveless tops. I have read that many 50+ ladies and bloggers don’t. They feel they have too much back of the arm “waddle”. I do have some, but I also think through exercise it has improved and will continue to improve somewhat. Oh wouldn’t my trainer, Jeff, love for me to want more exercise?  Unfortunately it’s one of those things that comes with maturity though.

I decided to try to dress this look up a bit and tried some different shoes. I even went wild and tried some print mixing. I think I like it! It seems I may have gotten some days assignments confused, LOL. That’s the beauty though, there is no real right or wrong. If it makes  you comfortable and you feel good when you walk out the door, that’s ok by me. I also tried the half tuck which you might be able to see in the photo at the top right. I’m starting to like that look a bit. I find it helps to camouflage some of those “lumps and bumps”.

img_2623
The cold shoulder blouse is new and the one I showed one day last week from my shopping trip to find the wide leg crops. I could have used this as yesterday’s floral top, but saved it for today since it was cold shoulder day. It would have been perfect for both. The khaki cargo type pants are the same ones from yesterday, that I chose to get instead. What do you think of this look? Is it hit or miss? Do you think this top looks better with the skinny pants over the wide leg crops?

A close up of the accessories.

img_1128

The top and pants are both from White House Black Market. The bag is the same cross-body Dooney & Bourke that I showed you last week. I shortened the strap for this look. I felt that would be better with the cold shoulder top. Do you agree? The necklace, earrings, and bracelet are all Plunder. The necklace and earrings are the March Plunder Posse and for the next couple of days you can still get the necklace and earrings here; www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/ just look for Posse. The bracelet, called Veda, has sold out. The patterned shoes are a couple of years old and came from PayLess, the burgundy/maroon shoes are a couple of years old also and came from DSW (see I do shop somewhere other HSN, lol).

Have you had a chance to check out Sylvia’s website at www.40plusstyle.com or get on the waiting list for the course? If you’ve thought about updating your style or wondering if you have one, it’s a good place to start. She is also part of the Fierce 50 Movement and bloggers. I will tell you a bit more about that in a few days.

I have been busy this week trying to learn more about this blogging stuff. It seems the more I study, I find more and more I don’t know. I hope I’m learning something.

Please take a minute and let me hear from you. I’d like to know your thoughts on the posts from this challenge. Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day 7

I tried to go for a light-hearted and quirky vibe

Onward and upward? It’s time for day seven, only three more to go. For those who may be new subscribers, I have been particpating in a style course with Sylvia from 40plusstyle.com. This has been a two week long spring style challenge and I have been sharing the ideas and my looks and interpretations here on the blog. Like I said yesterday, by this week it was getting harder. I did have fun with this look though.

Here is the inspiration outfit for todays look. It has a more casual vibe that can be dressed up too.

My look of the day! I tried having a bit of fun with this one and added in those adorable pink “chucks” converse . Shhh, don’t tell anyone but I wore this ensemble this past Saturday when I went out and about!! I liked all the shoe options for different reasons and honestly the converse’s were way out of the box for me. The other shoes were not an option to wear out yet. Although, weather wise (it hit 80) they would have been fine. I am in dire need of a pedi to rid myself of “winter feet”. I give my feet a break from a pedicure during the winter months and there is no one who wants or needs to see all that, lol! You saw most of these items in last weeks look. The only real change is the pants. These are the ones I was waiting on and chose instead of the wide leg crops I showed you. I think it is a much better look for me. I used the cardigan again, in place of a long sleeveless vest.

The shirt for this look is the one from the capsule and came from JCPennys. Graphic tees seem to be making a come back. I’ve never been overly big on them, but this one is very tasteful, has a great message, and is the Plunder motto. It is also very versatile and can be used with many looks. That makes it a great capsule piece. The cardigan is the same one from last week and is from JJill. The cargo type khakis are from White House Black Market-WHBM. They are the “skimmer” pants. They are very similar in design to the Ponte Skimmers from day 5, but a bit more casual. I had hoped these would’ve arrive in time to use for day 5, and they did get here that day; late.

What are your thoughts on the picture collages? Are you able to see them okay or is it too small? I’m trying not to make too much clutter, on the blog, but I also know if you are reading this on your phone it may be hard to see. Let me know how you would prefer to see the picures; in the collage or individually.

Here is a close up of the accessories. You have seen most of these already. Remember the bag I got a few weeks back when “The Man” and I were out shopping on the weekend? I used it for this look! Why? Because I tried to go for a light-hearted and quirky vibe! Do you think I was successful?

The sandles and shooties (which were part of other days) are both by Vince Camuto and came from The Home Shopping Network-HSN. The pink converse or “chucks” came from Dicks Sporting Goods, although, I think you might be able to find them at most places that sell converse (if they aren’t sold out, I think they might be quite popular). The fun tote bag was an impulse buy when we ducked into Barnes and Noble Booksellers to escape the rain a few weeks back. I just love the saying on it! The necklace is from Plunder; it was the January Posse selection. If you don’t know about the Plunder Posse; it’s a subscription service you can sign up for. You can join here at www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/  It’s $25  per month and you’ll receive 1-3 pieces of jewelry. There’s no obligation to continue and you can cancel anytime. The bangles are Alex and Ani and were all gifts from my son and DIL. The earrings are just a simple gold bar and I believe came from QVC.

What are your thoughts on todays look? Did I manage that light-hearted, quirky, fun look I was going for? What do you think of the pink shoes, are they a keeper? They work well for the purpose intended (weight lifting) and as fun look, but they are not made for comfort or long-term walking. I would not wear them out and about for an all day excursion that would require being on my feet all day.

Let me know your thoughts. I enjoy hearing from you. If you haven’t subscribed to the blog yet you can do so by clicking the follow button at the bottom of your screen. The subscriber list and Facebook page has grown a lot this week. That’s because you have taken time to share my wonderful (haha) ramblings with your friends. I appreciate it and thank you.

Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day 6

I see a big difference in this day vs last week

Here we are, starting the modeling session for week two of the Spring Style Challenge selections. This week seemed to get harder as it went on for me, although today was far from easy. I don’t think I was the only one having a hard time. Many of us were dealing with winter temperatures while trying on and modeling clothing we couldn’t wear out of the house yet. This seemed to make it harder. Below is my capsule that I pulled together for week two. There are some items from week 1 and many of these were in what I originally thought my capsule would be. Some were not what I had thought to use, but I decided to go outside of the box one day. At the end of this week I’ll post a collage of the entire capsule. Some things will change as there will be some additions and deletions. I think I will end up with more than items than the assignment called for, but there will be a good bit of mix/match possibilities; which what the focus is on.

This was the style idea for today’s challenge. Still no cropped flare pants in my wardrobe, so I went to plan B again.

This is what I came up with. Like I said it was a hard day. I had to get be ready super early since I’m depending on someone to shoot the pictures. I had an idea for what I wanted to use for the assignment and at the last-minute remembered the mint green blouse and pulled it out to use too. As you can see it looks as if I slept in it. I think I looked like I just jumped out of bed too. That must be what no make-up does for you, and I don’t always wear make-up. Kinda scary now, isn’t it?

I substituted white jeggings for the cropped flares. The jeggings are the Classic 5 pocket jegging by DG2 and came from the Home Shopping Network-HSN. They fit and wear great.  For my colorful top I used a teal lace up sweater. I chose this strictly because of the deep color.  This also came from HSN, it is a line called That Woman by none other than That Girl-Marlo Thomas! How many of you remember that show? Did you know Marlo is 79? Isn’t that crazy? She has just launched her own clothing line focusing on us over 50 ladies. It features items similar to some of the things from the That Girl era, but designed to look and make us 50-ish ladies feel good in our skin. I then decided to use the mint blouse and I actually wore this look last year, and felt comfortable and confident in it. This blouse came from Express, almost two years ago. It is very cool and comfortable.

Next are my accessories (or lack thereof) for today. The shoes were all shown with last weeks looks. The sweater doesn’t call for a necklace because of the lace up detail; they would just compete with each other. I forgot to grab jewelry to use with the mint green blouse but I usually wear gold with it, especially if I’m wearing the shoes with the gold on them. That “bookends” the look. That goes back to-day 4 with the “greenery” color and gold working with it.

I tried the booties with each look, because I often read and hear that wearing shoes that match your pants color can lengthen the look of your leg. I know I could use some help in that area. I wasn’t a big fan of it though. What do you think? The reviews from the group were mixed on the booties with this look, but most seemed to prefer the mint top to the sweater. Since it is a spring look, I do think it says spring better. I would wear the teal sweater on a day that calls for a sweater though.

I think I looked and felt like “something the cat drug in” for the most part in these looks. Maybe I should ask for a “do-over”, lol! I probably should have scrapped this days assignment, but I also think it was a good learning experience. I see a big difference in this day vs last week and it isn’t for the better….

If you have any thoughts or ideas on this days looks, drop me a message. I would enjoy hearing what you have to say.

Saturday Morning Workout

There might just be a little bit of muscle definition

After my #saturday7amsocialclub meeting AKA Weight Watchers, I headed off to my weekly session with my trainer, Jeff. Last week he told me we would be doing upper body work. What? Now you know I had to fuss at him, after all, he wouldn’t know what to think otherwise, lol. And I wouldn’t want him to think I was sick or enjoyed our sessions.

The meeting topic for this week was: Is this food worth it. Do you tend to ask yourself that before eating something? I imagine most people don’t usually do that. If you are on a journey to lose weight that might a good question to ask yourself before eating certain things. Sometimes the answer will unequivocally be yes, other times it might be no.

Are there times that you think something will be worth it, only to eat it, not enjoy it, and realize it wasn’t? That’s the worst. Being a long time WW; I know the ins and outs of the program. I can work and manipulate my points and the system, and I do. But there is nothing worse than planning to indulge, cheat, over do; what ever you want to call it and then not enjoy it.

I have had that happen a couple of times over the past few months, attempting to eat fast food. “The Man” and I would decide to get a burger somewhere we hadn’t been for a while only to be very disappointed in it. I guess I should know why I haven’t been eating at those places. Maybe I should take that as a sign to not got there. But I can be a hard learner, sometimes. This upcoming week I’ll have to behave myself and not over do it. Next Saturday will be the 1st and the first Saturday of the month. I will have to weigh-in to establish myself free for April.

Spring showed back up for a brief moment. It actually hit 80 degrees. I so excited I wore a tank top! I forgot winter was going to be back by Sunday morning….not only that but apparently I forgot I hadn’t seen a lick of sun in months!

I think I had spring fever last week, and became giddy, in anticipation of the warm day. On Thursday, I entered the lottery for the MCM-Marine Corps Marathon. The race is in October. I will be notified on Thursday 3/30 if I have been selected or not. I’m scared that I will, but will be equally disappointed if I don’t. It has 6:30 time limit, my time for the Baltimore Marathon was 6:29 and some few seconds…..pushing it a bit? I did have better time for the Halfs I ran last year, so I’m reasonably sure I can do it.

I guess I should get back to the subject of this post, the work out. It was pretty intense. I’m not sure when I remember working that hard. But you have to put in the work to get the results. We all know that can be easier said than done some days.

The shirt above was one of the first graphic tanks I bought, on my journey, after getting down to a smaller size. It’s a bit big now, but I will keep it until I find another with the same saying. There are days that I still need that reminder.

Arm and shoulder work. Can you see some muscle definition? I think there might be some. Just a little bit.

This may not look like it should be hard, I’m using a machine after all, but can I just say; this is harder than dead lifting! The dumbbells weren’t as heavy as Jeff wanted to give me, but the heavier ones (except for the really heavy ones) were all being used (oh golly gee, lol). My arms were toast when I left there. This wasn’t all that we did, just all he took pictures of. Last week, Jeff told me I need to get back to doing more upper body work at home. He is correct. I have been a bit lax in that lately. I’ve been lazy a lot lately. I am blaming it on the winter doldrums, but I have to snap out of it. I am slowly but surely. Some days it’s easier than others.

Did you notice those pretty pink shoes? Aren’t they cute? Jeff, had been telling me for a couple of weeks I needed flat shoes to lift in. He said my retired running shoes (which is what I usually use to work out in) didn’t let me sit back on my heels enough. He and my son both said a pair of “chucks” would be just fine. Well, I found me a pretty pink pair. Who says you can’t workout hard, yet still be stylin’? You will see them again. Believe it or not I used them in week 2 of the style challenge.

I hope y’all have had a great weekend! Has the spring weather made it to your neck of the woods yet? Are you ready to get outside and take in some sun and fresh air? I know I am! I certainly need to get some sun….

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings. Please take a moment to comment, like, or share on Facebook or Twitter. That’s what helps to reach more people (especially on Facebook they have a weird algorithm and you if you don’t respond you may stop seeing the posts). I appreciate it when you do.

Style Challenge Week 1-Day 5

It’s been fun sharing week 1 of the challenge with you

The last day of week one! Woo Hoo, lol, it’s been quite a week! Honestly, by the time I made it to this day of the challenge I was glad for the weekend break.  This one looks like it should be pretty easy huh? It wasn’t as easy as you might think.

Here is my interpretation for this days outfit. I think it came across more dressy than casual, though I tried. What do you think? The only khaki-ish (is that a word) type pants I had (I was waiting for pair I ordered) were a tan-colored dressier ponte skinny pant. The trench was too dressy, I think, and definitely not spring like. Considering the temperature, if I had been going out, it was appropriate though. The group liked the look with the shirt tied the best, and suggested I style it like this with my favorite jeans. I might just have to try it with those distressed jeans one day. What do you think?

The mens inspired shirt is the same one from my capsule and I showed it on day 1 with my dress, which helped to give it a skirt look. It is from JJill, the cami is from Old Navy, and the pants are the Ponte Skimmer Pants from White House Black Market-WHBM.  The trench is by IMAN and came from the Home Shopping Network-HSN. I really like almost everything at WHBM. My only complaint with them is they do not carry their petite line in the store. If I see something I like I go to the store and try it on, to see if I like the look, then I will order it in petite. It an extra step I wish I didn’t have to take, but I don’t like ordering then returning, either.

Here is the close-up of the accessories for this look.

The booties are Vince Camuto from HSN. Isn’t that a surprise, lol! The necklace is called Addilyn and the bracelet is called Selma. They are both from Plunder and still available. You can check them out here: www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/ I was a bit unsure about both when I first saw them, but the kept growing on me the more I looked at them. Finally I decided to order them and I’m glad I did. I will be wearing them a lot.

Remember a couple of weeks ago I told you about the Plunder March Madness? Well, it has been going full steam ahead and many items are selling out, in anticiapation of the launch of the spring line. Some items will be coming back, but we don’t know which ones. If you’ve been thinking of ordering head over and get what you want, it may not be there tomorrow.

It’s been fun sharing week 1 of the challenge with you. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and found some ideas for yourself. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Until the next time

Spring Style Challenge Week 1-Day 4

I wasn’t sure how this was going to work

Wow, almost half way there! This was an interesting day. The focus of today’s assignment was on the color green. Did you know that the color “greenery” is the Pantone color of the year? What is greenery? Is that really a color, lol? This was the suggestion for today’s challenge. Can you think back to my capsule and figure out what I used for today?

I was not sure how this was going to work. I don’t have jumpsuit, never thought they were functional (if you know what I mean). I didn’t think I had much in the way of green, especially a bold shade, then I remembered a dress “The Man” jokingly (he didn’t think I’d like it) suggested I get for our sons rehearsal dinner almost two years ago. I actually loved it. I think it has a bit of a retro, almost 60/70’s vibe.

Isn’t this a fun dress? I think it would make a really cute maxi dress too. I don’t know why he didn’t think I’d like it, except that it is a bit bold. He also tried to suggest white go-go boots? Are you kidding me? Men lol! It really doesn’t call for much in the way of accessories, in my opinion. But gold really does set it off . For kicks I tried my white shooties from the previous days….no, just, no.

Here is a close up of the accessories I chose.

The dress came from JCPennys. The shoes are Impo and came from DSW. I did buy them, because of the color, especially for the dress  but have used them often. The black cross-body bag also came from DSW. I’m not sure I like it a lot with the dress, but I haven’t found one that’s better. Do you have any thoughts? The necklace is old, almost 20 years, and I don’t remember the name of the store it came from. I got it because it is a heart, and I love hearts. I have used it often. The earrings, if I’m not mistaken, came from QVC. I have shopped there and HSN too much, lol, but those flex/easy pays they offer are hard to resist….the bracelet is from Plunder and called Selma. I liked it because it pulled some of the colors from the dress. If you like it,  You can get it here www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1 Have you gone over and looked at the Plunder website yet? If you’re on the fence, because you aren’t sure if you’ll like something; give it a try. The website pictures do not do the pieces justice. They are so much prettier in person than in the pictures!

Tomorrow will be the end of week 1. Each week of the challenge was only for 5 days, with the weekends off.  Have you had a chance to check out Sylvia’s website yet? If not, you can go to www.40plusstyle.com check it out and sign up for her newsletter.

We are supposed to have almost spring like weather again tomorrow. I sure hope so. Even though the winter hasn’t been horrid, I’m ready for it to go. Do you have anything planned for the weekend. Right now my only plans are the #saturday7amsocialclub and my session with my trainer, Jeff. Beyond that, I’m not sure. I can think of plenty of things I should do, but not wanting to…who’s with me on that?

I hope y’all have a great weekend. I will post day 5 tomorrow. Let me know what you think of this exercise and the options I’ve posted. I’m curious if your opinions are the same as the groups. I am definitely finding it interesting.

Until the next time

Spring Style Challenge Week 1-Day 3

I like this look better than yesterdays

Here we are at day 3 of the spring style challenge. I hope you are enjoying coming along for the ride, and are getting some of your own ideas. The inspiration for today’s outfits is below. I thought this one was pretty easy, although, I don’t have a striped jacket so I left that out. I am learning though; that your own interpretations are A-ok.

My interpretation, using my boyfriend jeans again. Wide leg pants do not work for me. I have added a picture below of my recent attempt to find a pair. I do look as if I had thrown a hip out with this pose, though, lol! The only difference between this look and yesterdays is the top, one pair of shoes, some different jewelry, and my hot pink cross body bag.

I like this look better than yesterday. I feel like it says spring much better, and this is a spring style challenge, after all. The “Choose Happy” tee was a recent purchase from JCPennys. I found it by accident helping my daughter look for something else. “Choose Happy” is the motto for Plunder, so I had to get it. I paired it with my JJill boyfriend jeans from yesterdays look. The tan sandals and white shooties are both Vince Camuto from the Home Shopping Network-HSN. The jewelry is from my Plunder collection; the necklace is called Norah, the cuff is called Jesse (it has been retired and is sold out) and the earring are from the March Posse, there is still time to get on the March Posse if you haven’t already. The bag is the same Dooney & Bourke I showed you with the day 1 look. Theres’s not much I would change about this look. The tan sandals are more casual I think, but I like the white shooties a lot with this ensemble.

Below is a close up of the accessories for todays look. You may see me wear pearls a lot. I love them, I’m a June baby after all, but I don’t think that’s why. I always have that country song about wearing “blue jeans with your pearls” running through my head, lol.

This is my attempt at finding those wide legged crop pants.

I’m so short, I feel, they do nothing for me. I may keep looking to see if my perfect pair is out there, but I’m not counting on it.

What are your thoughts on todays look? What, if anything, would you change or suggest? What are your thoughts so far on this style course and challenge I’ve been sharing with you? What do you think about those crop pants? You have to admit the hot pink socks make the outfit, hahaha! I’d love to hear your feedback.

Please like, share, or comment. I know sometimes what I write about may not be just for you, that day. You never know when you share it, though, who might be able to use something from that day. My goal is to reach and inspire as many people as I can. Your comments and shares, help me do that, and I greatly appreciate them.

Until the next time

Spring Style Challenge Week 1-Day2

What do you think of todays outfit

Today I’m sharing day two of the spring style challenge! I had a little photography help for the next few days of photos, due to the snow storm, so hopefully these photos will be better. I am hoping to find a better spot for pictures and learn how to use my camera with a tripod, that way I won’t be depending on others to help get pictures.

Below are my interpretations of this days challenge. I really like being able to adapt what I already have and not needing to shop for new things (not that I have a problem shopping, lol).

I don’t have crop or flare jeans (I really don’t like the look on me). I’ll show you picture on another day of a shopping trip to find some and what a fail I believe that was. I also didn’t have a true “cold-shoulder” top, so I substituted a top with lace panels in the shoulder. I feel that was a good compromise , ditto for the sleeveless vest. Considering this was the day of our snow/ice storm the cardigan worked quite nicely.

The only thing I did different between the following two groups of photos was to change the shoes. I wanted to see how that would affect the look. Many of the ladies in the group loved the white version. I am more inclined to go with the brown, if I’m wearing the cardigan. What do you think?

The top came from JCPennys, the boyfriend jeans are from JJill as is the cardigan, the shooties are by Vince Camuto and came from the Home Shopping Network (HSN), they are exactly the same except for color. I even bought them in black….the bag is a Miche (it used to be called the big bag, but I think they changed the name). I love these bags. If you’ve never heard of Miche; there is a base bag and you buy different shells and straps to change your look. No need to unpack and repack your back. This bag is big for me, but works great when I’m out and about with the grand littles. It serves as a diaper bag and purse. The jewelry I chose is from Plunder. It’s the March Posse and is still available for a few more days. The Plunder Posse is a subscription plan where for $25.00 per month, including tax and shipping, you will receive 1-3 pieces beautiful Plunder jewelry. There’s no obligation and you cancel and restart any time. I have a party open for March and the link is www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/  I’ve talked before about recently joining Plunder and I’m loving it. The Plunder sisterhood is such a great and uplifting group of ladies.

What do y’all think about today’s outfit? Is it a hit or miss? What if anything would you change? Please leave a comment and let me know. As always, I appreciate your likes, comments, and shares.

If you too would like to get in on the next challenge, head over to 40plusstyle.com and sign up for Sylvia’s newsletter and get on the waiting list.

Until the next time
