Thursday Simple Pleasures 8/31

This has been an incredible week, so far. How so? Stopping each day to list three things that have made me happy that day. It makes you aware.

It can become so easy and commonplace to focus on all the negatives in our lives. Sometimes you may have to look really hard to find the happy, but I bet there is something there, somewhere!

That is my Simple Pleasure for this week. Taking that time to focus on and list my three happy things for the day. Yes some days they may seem like pretty simple little things, but they are ” my” things or “your” things. There is no right or wrong.

How are you doing with listing your happy things? You may think “oh no one cares, no one is watching”. But guess what? They are. How do I know? I have been posting my three things every day on my personal Facebook page. Several of the #saturday7amsocialclub members who were not at the meeting last week (so they weren’t there to know about the challenge) have taken to posting their happy things too; because I posted mine and issued the challenge. One of my childhood friends has just issued a challenge to her friends on Facebook to do the same thing for the next 30 days, because of my challenge. That’s also a Simple Pleasure; knowing that one, seemingly small thing can inspire others. That was my hope/goal when I started this blog: to inspire others in some facet of their journey. I hope I do that on occasion. Sometimes I wonder, but….Maybe I have.

Yes, people do watch. But. What do they see? Do they see happy or do they see you have the “mulligrubs” all the time? I know not everyday is rainbows and unicorns, but I hope you have been able to find those happy moments.

My three happy things for Wednesday were

1. It was a beautiful day

2. I had a phenomenal workout

3. The grand littles are either in bed or home

Getting It Together

Last Wednesday I told you I was seeing my doctor on Thursday. Well, I did. She assured me I wasn’t crazy, lol, that men are clueless, and well you can just imagine how the rest of that conversation went….

She did agree that my monthly visitor may very well be in the process of leaving again (oh shucks), for good this time, and that my idea of going back on the bio-identical progesterone would be a good idea.

We talked about my increased physical activity and the anxiety type feelings I have been having. She pointed out that with the increase in frequency and the intensity of my workouts that my blood sugar may be dropping and suggested I eat more frequently. Yay!!! And that my desire for salty foods (I don’t like salt) is a response to stress. She suggested I eat every three hours and make sure I am eating protein for snacks. Ironically when I am following my WW plan and tracking in my usual manner that is what I am doing. And since I had been back on plan all week, I had actually started feeling better before seeing her.

I made it through all last week without going off the deep end food wise, and even through this past weekend. I did have that peach ice cream at the state fair on Saturday, but with WW you can eat anything you want, you just count it/track it and move on. That is what I did and so far since then I have been right back on target. Even today with it being Wednesday I haven’t had the need to “eat all the things” like I usually do, but it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing either.  I am attributing that to being back on my regular eating/fueling schedule. When I eat to fuel my body rather than just eating to eat I feel much better. I am human though and sometimes eat to eat. That doesn’t have to be a problem if it only happens occasionally. I was on a “binder”, if you will, and just kept it up. Hopefully I have broken the cycle and things will be getting back to normal. This coming Saturday will be the first Saturday of September and I must weigh in at the meeting to establish my lifetime status for the month. I will be ok for that, and if I keep on the path I’m on I will be down a bit from August.

Jeff has been varying my workouts and I have not been lifting heavy, the past couple of weeks. We have moved back to some old workouts and doing more reps with lighter weights, to get ready for the next big “jump” in heavy weights. I don’t know when that will happen. I am still trying to get my act together for the upcoming back to back half marathon/marathon. With the weather changing running is becoming much more pleasant, but after Miss Quinn’s Saturday all night party in my room I did not run Sunday. I know I am good for the half in Saturday but that full worries me. I think, I need to get out of my own head.

Now to continue my Get/Be Happy week. My three happy things for Tuesday were:

1. I awoke to the patter of rain on the window.

2. I tried a new to me fruit; Dragon Fruit. It was not bad (which is good because it’s a tad expensive). I will try it again.

3. I made it to yoga practice.

How are you doing with listing your happy things? Does listing things that made you happy help you to realize it’s not all bad?

Fun At The Fair

I awoke this morning to the patter of rain in the window. It was a comforting sound. You know that peaceful patter of rain falling gently. I was thankful that it wasn’t a storm. It has rained like that all day. I thought about the people in Texas who have lost so much, and here I am enjoying the sound of gentle rain drops. Such a difference. There are many relief organizations that you can give to, to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. If so choose, please help in whatever way you can. If you can do nothing more than say a prayer, please do.

Do you attend your state or county fair? As long as I can remember I have always loved going at least once a year to the fair.

This past weekend we took two of the grand littles Noah and Miss Quinn to the fair. It was only in its third day and was their second visit, lol. Their parents took them on opening night when they could ride all they wanted for one price. That certainly didn’t stop them from wanting to go back or having a good time.

Fortunately they can only ride the “kiddie” rides. I am not a fan of some of those rides, so I am quite happy not to need to worry about getting on them. I must admit some of the horror stories you may have heard in the news lately play into that.

Noah and Miss Quinn on the “speedway”.

Riding the teacups. That’s my speed, lol!

Can I just say these were the fastest spinning teacups ever? And they were in the “little kids” rides!

Now we are going to ride the helicopter.

Have I told you I have a fear of heights? How did I get myself into this one?

What was I thinking

Just standing around waiting.

I wore my “choose happy” t-shirt. I bought this for Plunder and last years Plunder anthem, but it was also fitting since “Get Happy” was the WW theme and challenge for this week. Ironically every time I wear it “The Man” is a bear….I think he needs the shirt, lol! I wore my latest embroidered “crop” jeans from White House Black Market. These might just be my new favorite jeans. They are a bit long for crops on me (what’s new) but because of the embroidery they cannot be shortened. That’s ok. At least for me. The military cargo style jacket is also from WHBM and the shoes are leather converse, and let’s not forget my favorite summer “go to” cross body Dooney and Bourke.

The keeper of the tickets

Amanda (my daughter) hamming it up….guess she was trying to show me how a “selfie”is done, lol!

The little bird necklace I am wearing says “I Choose Happy”. It was the Plunder anthem piece from 2016. So simple and so meaningful. The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece too and says “simplify” on that little heart you see. My earrings are old and are Black Hills Silver and Gold. I got them on my first trip to the Black Hills.

Noah and Miss Quinn wanted to play in these giant “rock’em-sock’em” type balls. They allowed them to go by themselves so they could do it without being over run by the big kids. That was a good thing because they could barely lift them up. They had a blast though.

Noah in the ball
Miss Quinn in the ball

A good time was had by all.

And we finished up with that yummy ice cream I told you about yesterday.

How are doing with finding your three happy things from your day? I hope  you take a moment to share with us.

My three happy things for Monday:

1. Miss Quinn and Lessa did not fight all day.

2. I hit my Fitbit step goal today, for the first time in forever on a week day.

3. I had a pan of dressing/stuffing in the freezer from the last time I made a large batch. I took it out and made it for dinner tonight!

Get Happy Challenge

It’s a new week! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Honestly, mine was on track to be “eh”. Lol. It turned out to be not great, but not the worst. “The Man” was fixated again on going to Sams Club on Saturday….I wish someone could explain such a “need” on a beautiful day, when there is nothing you “need” to purchase. It didn’t happen though.

We did make it to the state fair with Noah and Miss Quinn. They had a good time and we made some memories. I love-making memories, don’t you?

The #saturday7amsocialclub meeting AKA weight watchers was about being happy. We were given a challenge to write down three things everyday for the week, that made us happy that day. I took it a couple of steps further and decided to share it here with you and post it to Facebook and the WW connect site. That is a forum (?) for WW members to post on and encourage each other, much like Facebook. Did you know that some days finding something that made you happy can be hard? Especially if you are around unhappy people. They can certainly drain the life and joy out of you

My three things for Saturday were:

  1. Attending my Saturday morning meeting with my WW family then heading off to my workout with Jeff Afterwards. I get to recharge and reset for the week ahead.

2. Spending the afternoon with Noah and Miss Quinn at the state fair.

3. Peach ice cream-at the fair-it was yummy and totally worth it!

Since this is my post for Monday I am listing two days worth of happy moments and sharing Sunday’s too.

The three things that made me happy Sunday were:

  1. When I got up I could feel that fall in the air. Yes it is coming. I love fall
  2. I got to lay down and rest for a bit today, I didn’t “sleep” but I rested (Miss Quinn wandered into my bed around 10:30 last night and didn’t go back to sleep until after 4:30 this morning 😳) apparently it “was party in Oma’s room”… I had that “dragon” disease.
  3. It’s just a few minutes after 8pm and as soon as I’m finished here, I’m going to sleep!

Now I am going to pass this challenge along to you; dear readers. List or post three things everyday for the next week that made happy that day.

We could all use some happy in our lives. Sometimes it is just way too easy to focus on the bad, negative and unhappy moments.  Share your happy moments in the comments or on the Facebook page if you would like.

I hope you don’t have to look too far to find your happy moments.

Peek-A-Boo

It’s Friday, again, a new weekend with new possibilities. New things to explore and get into! Have you made plans yet?

I have decided to start dedicating Friday’s blog post to fashion, that’s not to say there won’t be a fashion post on other days, but I like the idea of “Fashion Friday”. I am borrowing that idea from my friend and fellow blogger Amy Kennedy over at http://www.yourfavoritechapter.com. If you don’t already follow Amy, you should head over, check out her blog, and subscribe.

Today I am sharing my review of the Covered Perfectly Sexy Peek A Boo top. I gave you a sneak peek of this top Tuesday. Did you know, Covered Perfectly is Made in the USA, and is a fairly new, woman owned small business? When Pauline, the owner, of Covered Perfectly asked me if I’d like to do another “official” review for her, I was excited to do so.

DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post. What that means is: I was provided the product for review. If you click on the links in the post and make a purchase, I may make a small commission at no additional cost to you.

I chose the Peek A Boo in Maroon, specifically for the cut outs on the arms and the color (you may know I consider burgundy, wine, maroon my “signature” color). I have not been able to fully jump on the cold shoulder band wagon. I like the look, I like the look on others, but so far I have only found one I like on me. And I don’t wear that very often. For me they aren’t comfortable. And by that I mean the over all fit. I don’t mind the openness of the shoulders, they just don’t seem to “feel” right to me.

The Peek A Boo offers that flirty, open shoulder look and shows a bit of arm, but has more coverage than a regular cold shoulder top. It’s like a perfect union of cold shoulder meets regular sleeves. So, if you are like me and just not a cold shoulder top girl the Peek A Boo may be the perfect alternative for you too!

Are you a fan of the cold shoulder look? If so, Covered Perfectly has you covered there too! And after wearing the Peek A Boo and loving it, I may have to give one a try.

The Sexy Peek A Boo is an A-line cut so it flows and skims your body without accentuating any lumps, bumps, and jiggly wiggly bits you might have. I know I have plenty of those. The Peek A Boo is made from the MicroModal fabric (as are most Covered Perfectly tops) which has great breathability in the heat (or when you may be having your own “personal summer” moments) and you could practically sleep in it and get up and go (see Tuesday’s post for my antics before these photos were taken). They are great to wear while traveling and I always make sure to pack a Covered Perfectly Simple Comfort top when I travel for that reason. I know I can just grab it from the suitcase, change, and go when I get to my destination; if I need to.

If you are a regular follower of the blog, you likely know I am short. I can only claim to be 5′ tall on a 80’s hair day and even then it’s iffy. Although the Covered Perfectly tops do not come in a petite length, they are not too long for me. As you can see they cover my front and rear just enough, but not too much. I am wearing it here with white “pull-on” skinny jeans/jeggings, but I would be able to wear it comfortably with regular jeans, leggings or a dressier pant too. The scoop neckline is perfect for accessorizing and you can see different looks for that here. So ladies, if you are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to try a Covered Perfectly Top. If you are taller they will, obviously, be a bit shorter on you.

What do you think about this fun, fashionable, and Sexy Peek A Boo? I really want to know.

Working It Out

Did you get to see the solar eclipse? Our coverage was supposed to be about 82%. “The Man” came home from work and went to bed, but asked me to get him up about 15 mins before peak time. He was going to take Noah and Miss Quinn out to see it. We knew there was no way to safely try to let Lessa see it. And at not quite two she wouldn’t have a clue. Well, I devised a plan, that should scare you, lol!

When it was time for it to start I went out to view it. I figured I would go every 15 mins or so to see the changes and take Noah and Miss Quinn out one by one to see also, then let Pop take them out for the finale’ well you know what they say about plans! Once the moon covered the sun enough that you could start to see what was to come I took them out one at a time (I figured it would be easier to make sure they didn’t look that way). Noah, saw it once and was done, he didn’t want to see anymore. Miss Quinn, went out but didn’t want to look up to see it. So much for those viewing glasses they were so excited about. I was able to see up to approximately between 1/4-1/3 of the coverage before the clouds rolled in. By time to wake “The Man” up, thunderstorms had rolled in and the bottom had fallen out! So much for our eclipse viewing!

This has been a bit of an eye-opening week for me. I am finally realizing there are forces at work that are bigger than me. I’m still convinced the eclipse caused forces of nature that has had things off kilter, my friend posted an article about it http://awarenessact.com/the-effect-of-a-solar-eclipse-on-your-mind-body-and-soul/?=ire…..on Monday….I wish I had seen it much earlier. It certainly explained a thing or two. Most people seemed to have had positive responses to this force. Me? Maybe not so much. Or maybe at then end of the day, it brought some things to light and that is good.

But like I told you Monday my hormones and system is completely out of whack too. I’m not sure that can be completely blamed on the forces of the eclipse, but I imagine it didn’t help.

Last week I told you after my WW meeting the weekend before, my commitment for the next four weeks was to track my food. Well that worked out pretty good; for a few days. Then it fell a part and I didn’t care….until Saturday morning when I got up to go to the #saturday7amsocialclub up an entire 2.5 pounds from the last time I had weighed on Wednesday. Yep. Not only did I not track but I stood in the kitchen and just ate. I’m not sure I could have accurately tracked if I had tried or wanted to. I paid little attention to what I ate. I just shoveled it in. Why? Because I could? To avoid the littles bickering and whining? It was a place to escape, I could lock my self in (baby gates are wonderful) but still see and watch them. Emotional eating? Stress eating? My inner pig just having a god ole time? Whatever you want to call it, it was on a roll!

This week I am back to tracking and being mindful of what I am eating. After my epiphany over the weekend about my hormones being a factor I am more determined than ever to get back where I need to be; physically and mentally. It is certainly not going to be as easy as I had hoped. It seems many people I know have been in the same boat. If we don’t want to keep rowing upstream without a paddle, let’s join forces and get ourselves back on the right path together! We can do this. Who is with me? We can definitely be better together! We must take care of ourselves.

What is that saying? “You can’t pour from an empty cup, take care of yourself first”

How are you doing? Let’s talk about it.

I had my session with Jeff tonight. Saturday he told me I was crazy. No not really, but that he thought I was over thinking some things. Maybe. That was before I went over the edge, almost. Sometimes I wonder if I am just doing too much. Too much exercise, is that a real thing? Actually, it can be. We will see. Aside from upping my mileage for the races, and adding weight to my workouts I have not been doing any “extra” or new activities. I have been working out the same number of days, doing essentially the same routines. Maybe the upping of the intensity is a factor. I have my appointment with my doctor tomorrow, we’ll see what she has to say.

This afternoon is the first time since the weekend that I have felt almost “normal”, whatever that is, lol. So far the only thing different is I have been tracking and eating healthfully AND today is Wednesday. This is the day I usually want to eat “all the things” and I have not had that feeling today. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that maybe, just, maybe this too shall pass.

The Things You Do For A Fashion Blog Post

I could have gotten more than I bargained for

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. Yesterday on the blog, I told you my daughter asked me Saturday night if I wanted to go Sunday and take pictures for the blog. I wasn’t sure if it would work out or not, but I had a review to do, so I was hoping it would be a good day. Sunday was a much better day for me and I was in a much better place than Saturday. If you haven’t already, you can read about it here.

I knew we couldn’t wander far because we got a late start. I had a twelve-mile run to get in first and the past couple of weeks I haven’t been going as early as a few weeks back. The temperature hasn’t been as oppressive and when race day hits we won’t be starting at 5:30am either, so I’ve been going a bit later, in hopes of acclimating time wise. I may need to vary that again, though, as the miles add up or I won’t get a thing accomplished. Then of course we had to get ready and hit the grocery store.

By the time all that was said and done and we could head out, we didn’t have much time. So we headed off to North Point State park. We’ve done pictures here before so I knew there were places to get some good shots. I really like taking pictures out in nature and still needed to be there too. I could have gotten more than I bargained for on this excursion, lol!

We arrived at the park and got ourselves together to head out and get some shots. As we started walking out of the parking lot toward the path to lead where we had planned to go, I wondered aloud if there were places in the park we didn’t know about.

Well lo and behold a sign appeared in front of us.

We decided to go see what the “Ridgely House” had to offer in the way of photography spots…..

Little did we know we were going to be hiking to get there! We finally got the camera out to take a few shots along the way.

Before we got to this point though, I started rethinking this idea. I was not sure what kind of creatures we would encounter along the way. We did see some of the largest butterflies I’ve ever seen, but the camera wasn’t out and ready to try to photograph them. Anything else I hopefully scared off as I was singing and making a lot of noise along the way, when I realized this could be dangerous and home to a host of unsavory characters….of course my singing may have angered them instead of scaring them too….that could have backfired!

Deeper in the woods.

We finally made it to the site of the Ridgely House.

What? You have got to be kidding me? This is what we came to see? I plodded through spider webs and potential other creatures for a ruin? To get shots for a fashion post and review? Oh boy!

In my flip-flops and white jeans to boot. Do you know what could have gotten my toes? After running twelve miles wearing shoes is not easy, or should I say closing my feet back up is torture, so I figured I would just carry the ones I planned to wear. Yeah, neither was the best choice of foot wear for hiking through the woods!

Well we were here, we might as well make the best of it.

On the way out we read the plaque that told about the Ridgely House. You can’t really read it, but it never mentioned it was now a ruin….

The actual purpose of this trip was to review the top I am wearing for Covered Perfectly. I am not sure Pauline’s vision when she designed her fabulous tops was for women to wear them while hiking through the woods.

So while this will not be my “official” review. I was wearing the Covered Perfectly Peek-A-Boo top in maroon. You know this is my “signature color”.  The cut out sleeves are a great alternative to the cold-shoulder tops, if you haven’t jumped on that band wagon yet and the A-line style is very figure flattering. I don’t think would be my first choice of tops (or outfit period) if I had planned to be foraging through a forest, but it was very comfortable as the MicroModal always is in the heat, and still looked good when we took the “official” shots (which I will share with you on Friday). It is definitely a versatile piece!

Here is a little sneak peek of a better setting.

In the meantime if you would like to head over to the Covered Perfectly website and order the Sexy Peek-A-Boo top, you can.

A Day At The Italian Festival

Things are starting to change, I will get it figured out

Have you ever had a day where everything and everyone irritates the living daylights out of you? Well, let me tell you, I was there on Saturday! I went to the #saturday7amsocialclub aka WW meeting and on to the gym. That was the better part of the day.

When I got home “The Man” was napping, as usual. I proceeded to get a shower and dressed. He got up and said “I guess we can ready and go to Sams”. What? Well that just set me off! I have been cooped up I the house for how long? With the littles “off the chart” do you really think I want to traipse off to the big box store on Saturday morning? I was not going to that store if we starved!!! And since our basement is akin to what I imagine someones who is  preparing for the apocalypse might look like, I don’t think starvation is happening anytime soon.

I have been trying for weeks to go try the butterfly garden and sunflower fields and have yet to get there. I told him I NEEDED to be outside!!!! I wanted fresh air and sunshine! I have still not made it to either of these places….apparently the compromise was to go to Little Italy and the St. Gabrielle’s Festival which occurs every year. Sometimes we go, sometimes we don’t.

It’s basically a street festival where you can eat your way through a couple blocks of vendors. It’s sponsored by one of the local Catholic Churches in the neighborhood.

You can’t see them very good, but there a group of Nonna’s (Nonna is Italian for grandma) sitting back there making Pizzelles. I left the Pizzelles there. You get 10 for $5.00, my thought was I could come home and make many more than 10 for less than $5.00. I did not though. You will see why as you continue reading!

Then you have a group Nonno’s (Non-no is Italian for grandpa) playing Bocce Ball. I say they were the Nonno’s as the majority are the old timers. This a permanent Bocce Ball court and you can almost always find someone there playing a game.

This year the vendors just didn’t do it for me. There was just too much commercial stuff you can get anywhere. Does that make sense?

I did find a bite to eat, go figure, lol! After walking through I decided to have an Arancini.

If you don’t know, Arancini is a rice ball. A fried ball of deliciousness. I had a choice of sausage and peppers or crab and shrimp. I chose the crab and shrimp!

In my mind the seafood was healthier, hahaha! I just had to get a cup of wine to wash it down….there’s nothing like some wine in a plastic Dixie cup, lol!

The man caught me checking out the Alfa Romero’s on display!

A girl can dream, right? Unfortunately or maybe fortunately they don’t make a “bus”….but, if I go take a test drive I can get a $25 gift card and $250 off, lol!!! I think I’ll pass. I’m quite sure I would love the way it drives and want to take home. Not only do I hate having a car payment, and I have one with the bus, it is not practical for me right now with all the grand littles. And the man does not need that for a work vehicle, although I’m sure he would think otherwise.

I was looking to see where he had wandered off to. The dress is from WHBM. It is mainly navy with some light blue, tan, yellow, and white. I like it with my tan Vince Camuto sandals and yellow, cream and tan cross body bag (both from HSN). You can’t see my jewelry very good, but I have on a pair of dangle earrings that I got in Italy (in Epcot at Disney last year, lol). That’s likely the closest I will ever get….the blue bracelet on my left arm is Plunder and called Ritta. It is a narrow denim bangle type with gold and silver along with a row of rhinestones and is one of the new magnetic closures. They are so easy to put in and take off! My other bracelets are a combination of Plunder and one of my Pandora bracelets. I don’t think this dress needs a necklace.

On the way out of the festival we had to stop by a local Italian bakery; Vaccaro’s. I just “had” to get some cannoli chips and dip.

Can you say yum? I only get what they call an individual serving (it’s more than I need) but they give you enough cream for what I don’t know….fyi, I got a homemade mango gelato too….

Later in the day “The Man” thought we should go to the mall….we were only at the festival maybe 30-45 minutes. It doesn’t take long to walk through, unless you eat and drink your way through. Now what part of being outside did he forget? We went and I bought NOTHING! Can you believe that? I even spent almost and hour in WHBM trying on things, and although I liked them, they were in sale, and I had coupons but I found no joy in being there.

It finally dawned on me after I completely snapped at him, my hormones are getting out of whack; way out of whack (ladies I imagine some of you know what I mean)….. This may be why the littles are so on my last nerve too, besides this eclipse business which I’m still convinced has had an effect on moods. Times are starting to change….this is going to be a challenge.

As I pondered what was going on the rest of the weekend, I started putting two and two together. I started noticing more than a month ago I would got to bed freezing then I was waking during night with what I’m now believe were hot flashes. At the time I kind of chalked it up to it being summer and the nights being so hot and humid and such. I can also cry, just for the sake of crying; happy I can cry, sad I can cry, angry I can cry (after I let loose with both barrels). Then I started doing some more math and realized it’s also been about three months since that monthly annoyance has visited. Now I knew it had been a little while, but wasn’t thinking it was that long. I’m sure you know I don’t really mind that. It’s the rest that comes along when she leaves that is going to cause problems, if I’m not careful. Let’s hope I can through this with out completely going around the bend. And I have thought a couple of times I was careening around it pretty darn fast!

Ironically I thought this was done and over with several years ago. I started taking a bio-identical progesterone during my 40s due to some imbalances, and going through some of the same things. After a period of time my cycle stopped. My GYN and I thought after more than a year, it was done and For six years or so, nothing! Then I started losing weight and after losing 35 pounds, guess what returned? Just as if it had never left….😡 I also stopped the progesterone as I felt great and my doctor and I decided if I didn’t need it there was no sense in continuing to take it and I could restart it at anytime I needed to. So for the past almost three years things have been great. Guess who I called today? Yes, it’s time to revisit some alternatives. If not I think I am going to go mad. Yoga and other exercise hasn’t helped. It does while I’m there, but so far long-term it’s not doing it. I’m now wondering if this is a factor in some of the weight I’ve gained back. There are so many changes going with my body; the increasing activity and now the likely hormonal changes. If it is indeed a factor I will most definitely need to be more diligent with my diet and work this out. It may well explain the increasing cravings for things I generally could care less about. I will get this figured out! Hopefully sooner rather than later.

So friends have you been there, done that yet? How have you fared? How/what did you do to get through it? Any thoughts/words of wisdom will be appreciated. I’m sure there are others who may want to know too! As women we are all in this together!

After all that my daughter came home and wanted to know if I wanted to go Sunday afternoon and get some pictures for the blog. Just wait until see what we got into….I still can’t believe it!

Neutrals With A Pop of Color

TGIF! We have made it to the weekend! We have nothing planned around here, at the moment, but that is always subject to change. It is “The Mans” Saturday to work so that will likely limit what we decide to do. I imagine we will stay fairly close to home after traveling last weekend. Maybe I can plan that “me” weekend I told you about last week! Or maybe I already have. My yoga teacher training starts in three weeks. YIKES! For one weekend a month for the next nine months I will be doing nothing but something for me. Apparently I should expect it to be quite intense and reentry into regular life may be challenging. It’s so exciting and scary! Do y’all have anything exciting planned? Please share.

I have already told you a bit about our trip to the outlets last weekend. Our school shopping was a success. We were not quite sure how the day would pan out as the weather was subject (according to the powers that be) to be pretty iffy. Thunderstorms were called for at home and there. It actually turned out to be a beautiful day after a few early morning showers; until we were about halfway home. Then the bottom fell out for quite a ways!

I had planned on getting some pictures for the blog and managed a few, but like I told you earlier I was not happy with them. We didn’t take the camera because we didn’t want to be “bothered” with it. I have the iPhone7 and the camera is supposed to be the best thing ever. Maybe more practice is needed.

We did find a great old covered bridge to use for the pictures. It is still used by Amish for taking buggy tours over.

Even though rain/storms were called for the temperature was still supposed to be in the 80s, I wanted to be cool and comfortable, but still look stylish and put together.

I decided on a tank top and maxi skirt.

This tank is the SIMPLE SCOOP NECK TANK in gray from Covered Perfectly. It wears beautifully, the straps are wide enough that you don’t have to worry about your other straps showing, and like other Covered Perfectly tops it just skims and flows over your body. The MicroModal fabric is the best. We took these photos on the way home and after traveling and shopping all day. It wasn’t wrinkled and stayed cool, even in the heat and humidity. I am wearing a small. Did you know Covered Perfectly is made right here in the USA? I paired it with a maxi skirt from Legging Army, this pattern is called Picture Perfect. I haven’t mentioned the Legging Army maxis before, because as fast as they were launched they were selling out. I couldn’t write fast enough, lol! This is the first one I’ve gotten. There are a variety of patterns. I will be getting more. Several of the maxi styles are on sale (this one included) along with shorts, and athletic wear; while they last.

Remember as a Grandma to Glamma blog reader you get 20% OFF on up to two items when you shop at Covered Perfectly! Use the discount code GG20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount will apply on up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the “Buy 2 get your 3rd FREE” special. This special applies to any combination of items storewide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied
automatically. Only one of the discounts will work. Start shopping!

I wore the August Plunder Posse for a pop of color against the neutral pallet of the gray. Even though there are several colors in the skirt they are all neutrals. The burgundy of the necklace is a perfect color with gray. At least in my opinion. It doesn’t hurt that it’s my “signature” color. The discs in the necklace and earrings work back to the circle patterns in the skirt. It’s was almost as if they were made for each other! The bracelets are the magnetic bling bracelets that I’ve showed you before. I wore Tina, which is a pinky/purple color. It was one of the Mother’s Day specials and is no longer available. The black one is called Ezra and the other one is Flynn which has iridescent stones.

If you aren’t familiar with the Plunder Posse it is a jewelry subscription, much like Ipsy, Birch Box, Graze, etc; where for $25 per month including tax and shipping you receive 1-3 pieces of Plunder Jewelry that is not in the catalog. Now is a great time to sign up because it’s the middle of the month. That allows you to see in advance what that months selection is and if you don’t like it you can cancel and sign back up the next month or even get it and give as a gift. Think Secret Sisters, Secret Santa’s, and Teachers gifts! You could have the perfect unique gift for someone, that doesn’t break the bank.

My daughter, Amanda, was doing the picture taking, and decided I should climb up on a ledge….now y’all know I’m short, right? So it was quite a feat for me to get up there. It may not look too high from the inside, but when you aren’t very tall…..and in a skirt…..it was comical!

Have I told you I have a fear of heights too?

Can you believe she wanted me to stand on the narrow part of the ledge, in front of the red part of the bridge?

I did not. It wasn’t much bigger than my feet, and I have small feet. That was a long way down. I may be half crazy, but not totally, lol.

Some details inside the bridge

Simple Pleasure Thursday 8/17

Do you ever just sit and say to yourself “what have I gotten myself into”? It seems I have done that a lot lately. “What was I thinking” has crossed my mind more than once. This week the littles have been so antsy I have said that daily, maybe even hourly, lol! Yes, that saga continues! Now you know I love them dearly and treasure my time with them, but they have been little stinkers with a capital “S” this week! I told them I was going to send them to daycare (specifically sunny side, remember that from the Toy Story 2 movie) and I was going to work at McDonalds…..I’m still thinking it has to do with the lunar eclipse. My friend Robert, wasn’t quite sure about how that works, but my friend Marie thinks it’s probably so. Her words were “people have been just bat-poop crazy”…..Ha! What an understatement! Have you noticed that extra dose of craziness around you? I want to say I can’t wait for school to start back, but then I’ll be running back and forth….even good things can have some negatives.

What is my Simple Pleasure this week? Can I find one? I think it has to be having a few minutes alone in quiet. I ran out last night to get my haircut. I can’t say that was really a pleasure, but I left the house alone to do something other than go to the gym. I am on the hunt for a new stylist; Again. I found one a few months ago, recommended by my friend Paula who runs a Facebook blog The Weigh Inn and is a member of the #saturday7amsocialclub. Can I just say he was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!! I think it was the best cut I have ever had and it stayed looking great through the entire “grow out time”. I never had that love it one day hate it the next syndrome. Then he up and moved; over an hour away from us!!! The nerve!

Because I have waited longer than I should have my hair was getting to the point I couldn’t do anything with it, so I ran up to one of the chain shops…..the girl didn’t do a bad job, but she was not the replacement I was looking for either. The hunt continues. Or maybe I will be taking a drive to western Maryland….I might be able to get two visits in before the weather gets too bad to chance traveling out that way.

So this weeks Simple Pleasure may be two fold. A few minutes of quiet time away from the house and a good hair stylist! What is your Simple or even Guilty Pleasure for this week?
