Neutrals With A Pop of Color

TGIF! We have made it to the weekend! We have nothing planned around here, at the moment, but that is always subject to change. It is “The Mans” Saturday to work so that will likely limit what we decide to do. I imagine we will stay fairly close to home after traveling last weekend. Maybe I can plan that “me” weekend I told you about last week! Or maybe I already have. My yoga teacher training starts in three weeks. YIKES! For one weekend a month for the next nine months I will be doing nothing but something for me. Apparently I should expect it to be quite intense and reentry into regular life may be challenging. It’s so exciting and scary! Do y’all have anything exciting planned? Please share.

I have already told you a bit about our trip to the outlets last weekend. Our school shopping was a success. We were not quite sure how the day would pan out as the weather was subject (according to the powers that be) to be pretty iffy. Thunderstorms were called for at home and there. It actually turned out to be a beautiful day after a few early morning showers; until we were about halfway home. Then the bottom fell out for quite a ways!

I had planned on getting some pictures for the blog and managed a few, but like I told you earlier I was not happy with them. We didn’t take the camera because we didn’t want to be “bothered” with it. I have the iPhone7 and the camera is supposed to be the best thing ever. Maybe more practice is needed.

We did find a great old covered bridge to use for the pictures. It is still used by Amish for taking buggy tours over.

Even though rain/storms were called for the temperature was still supposed to be in the 80s, I wanted to be cool and comfortable, but still look stylish and put together.

I decided on a tank top and maxi skirt.

This tank is the SIMPLE SCOOP NECK TANK in gray from Covered Perfectly. It wears beautifully, the straps are wide enough that you don’t have to worry about your other straps showing, and like other Covered Perfectly tops it just skims and flows over your body. The MicroModal fabric is the best. We took these photos on the way home and after traveling and shopping all day. It wasn’t wrinkled and stayed cool, even in the heat and humidity. I am wearing a small. Did you know Covered Perfectly is made right here in the USA? I paired it with a maxi skirt from Legging Army, this pattern is called Picture Perfect. I haven’t mentioned the Legging Army maxis before, because as fast as they were launched they were selling out. I couldn’t write fast enough, lol! This is the first one I’ve gotten. There are a variety of patterns. I will be getting more. Several of the maxi styles are on sale (this one included) along with shorts, and athletic wear; while they last.

Remember as a Grandma to Glamma blog reader you get 20% OFF on up to two items when you shop at Covered Perfectly! Use the discount code GG20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount will apply on up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the “Buy 2 get your 3rd FREE” special. This special applies to any combination of items storewide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied
automatically. Only one of the discounts will work. Start shopping!

I wore the August Plunder Posse for a pop of color against the neutral pallet of the gray. Even though there are several colors in the skirt they are all neutrals. The burgundy of the necklace is a perfect color with gray. At least in my opinion. It doesn’t hurt that it’s my “signature” color. The discs in the necklace and earrings work back to the circle patterns in the skirt. It’s was almost as if they were made for each other! The bracelets are the magnetic bling bracelets that I’ve showed you before. I wore Tina, which is a pinky/purple color. It was one of the Mother’s Day specials and is no longer available. The black one is called Ezra and the other one is Flynn which has iridescent stones.

If you aren’t familiar with the Plunder Posse it is a jewelry subscription, much like Ipsy, Birch Box, Graze, etc; where for $25 per month including tax and shipping you receive 1-3 pieces of Plunder Jewelry that is not in the catalog. Now is a great time to sign up because it’s the middle of the month. That allows you to see in advance what that months selection is and if you don’t like it you can cancel and sign back up the next month or even get it and give as a gift. Think Secret Sisters, Secret Santa’s, and Teachers gifts! You could have the perfect unique gift for someone, that doesn’t break the bank.

My daughter, Amanda, was doing the picture taking, and decided I should climb up on a ledge….now y’all know I’m short, right? So it was quite a feat for me to get up there. It may not look too high from the inside, but when you aren’t very tall…..and in a skirt…..it was comical!

Have I told you I have a fear of heights too?

Can you believe she wanted me to stand on the narrow part of the ledge, in front of the red part of the bridge?

I did not. It wasn’t much bigger than my feet, and I have small feet. That was a long way down. I may be half crazy, but not totally, lol.

Some details inside the bridge

Simple Pleasure Thursday 8/17

Do you ever just sit and say to yourself “what have I gotten myself into”? It seems I have done that a lot lately. “What was I thinking” has crossed my mind more than once. This week the littles have been so antsy I have said that daily, maybe even hourly, lol! Yes, that saga continues! Now you know I love them dearly and treasure my time with them, but they have been little stinkers with a capital “S” this week! I told them I was going to send them to daycare (specifically sunny side, remember that from the Toy Story 2 movie) and I was going to work at McDonalds…..I’m still thinking it has to do with the lunar eclipse. My friend Robert, wasn’t quite sure about how that works, but my friend Marie thinks it’s probably so. Her words were “people have been just bat-poop crazy”…..Ha! What an understatement! Have you noticed that extra dose of craziness around you? I want to say I can’t wait for school to start back, but then I’ll be running back and forth….even good things can have some negatives.

What is my Simple Pleasure this week? Can I find one? I think it has to be having a few minutes alone in quiet. I ran out last night to get my haircut. I can’t say that was really a pleasure, but I left the house alone to do something other than go to the gym. I am on the hunt for a new stylist; Again. I found one a few months ago, recommended by my friend Paula who runs a Facebook blog The Weigh Inn and is a member of the #saturday7amsocialclub. Can I just say he was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!! I think it was the best cut I have ever had and it stayed looking great through the entire “grow out time”. I never had that love it one day hate it the next syndrome. Then he up and moved; over an hour away from us!!! The nerve!

Because I have waited longer than I should have my hair was getting to the point I couldn’t do anything with it, so I ran up to one of the chain shops…..the girl didn’t do a bad job, but she was not the replacement I was looking for either. The hunt continues. Or maybe I will be taking a drive to western Maryland….I might be able to get two visits in before the weather gets too bad to chance traveling out that way.

So this weeks Simple Pleasure may be two fold. A few minutes of quiet time away from the house and a good hair stylist! What is your Simple or even Guilty Pleasure for this week?

Weightloss/Workout Wednesday-Body Stigma

How do you overcome it

Well, it’s Wednesday, we have made it the half way point of this week☺️, and life with the littles continues….our weekend shopping trip to Lancaster was a success. I think we were able to get the littles outfitted and ready to start school. It won’t be long before they will need some fall/winter wear though, there wasn’t much of a selection out yet. Oh shucks more shopping, lol.

There is just something exciting about back to school shopping. Since my Yoga Teacher Training starts three weeks from this coming Friday, I feel like I need to do some shopping too, lol!

Before heading out on our shopping adventure I made it to the weekly meeting of the #saturday7amsocialclub. It was a great meeting, as usual, but this week was exceptionally good. We even went over by more than 15 minutes, that never happens.

Part of the topic was about stigma. Mainly body stigma and what to do, if it happens to you, how to overcome it.

Have you ever experienced negative comments, stares, etc because of your body shape or size? How have you overcome it? Do you stand up for yourself? If not it’s time to start. If it happens to you, let the offender know how it hurts. Sometimes it’s those closest to us that hurt us the most. I had family that was that way. I say was because they are no longer with us. Ironically, they had no place to be judging anyone. Honestly, it still hurts to this day.

Maybe more importantly have you done it to yourself? I have. Even this weekend AFTER attending that meeting.

I took a few photos this weekend to share with you on another post. Not only are the photos just not good, in general, I could and did pick out every single body flaw; “I looked heavy, all my lumps and bumps were showing”. You name it, I said it and thought it. Do I feel this way because I have gained a few pounds? Whether it’s muscle or not, it is still playing with my head.

I will go through and edit the photos and share with you, the posts that they were intended for, but they aren’t great.

But, why do we do that to ourselves? Would we do it to our friends? Not if we want to have friends! So why can’t we be a friend to ourselves?

Another part of the meeting was to commit to something for the next four weeks. We didn’t have to share with the group but I’m sharing mine here. Maybe that will keep me accountable. And I am asking y’all to help hold my feet to the fire, lol!

I am committing to getting back to tracking, daily and accurately. I have been very lax with that. I have been tracking loosely here and there but that’s about it. Maybe that is why my weight is creeping up? I will half buy Jeff’s assessment that some of it is muscle, but I don’t believe for a minute all of it is. I have talked to a couple of other women powerlifters who have not gained weight when they started lifting. So why should I? Maybe I have just let the thought that I was going to gain get into my head and allowed myself to go too far? So if I eat right and track; the good, the bad, and the ugly we will see. I must get myself back in the right frame of mind, though. If you have any thoughts or ideas, please share with me and the other readers.

I received this journal in the mail earlier this week. It was a gift from my friend LeighAnn from Rodan+Fields. It couldn’t have been more perfect! I needed this message. I will Make It Happen!

This week I have been tracking. Maybe not eating enough, which I wouldn’t know if I wasn’t tracking. And it’s Wednesday the day, that for some reason, I just want to eat anything not nailed down. Today has been no exception, but I’m trying to not go too far overboard. I have yet to figure out what it is with Wednesday. If it were only a monthly thing (ladies you know what I mean) I would understand. But it’s every single Wednesday…Today is no exception. I think today might be stress, though.

Usually I can count on a workout to help “burn off the crazy”. Tonight is usually my session with Jeff, but he messaged me Monday that he had an appointment tonight and asked if we could do Monday or Friday. I wasn’t going for Friday and Saturday, so off I went Monday night. We had a good workout and did something new- Rack Pulls – sort of like a deadlift but you start lifting at your knees instead of pulling off the floor. This is to work more of your back muscles. I managed to pull 205!!! Jeff thinks I’m ready to deadlift that. I’m not so sure, yet! I imagine we will be finding out soon. In the meantime, maybe I better pull out the kettlebells tonight, lol!

“The Man” called me really early this morning. It’s usually never a good thing when he calls me, before I call him. In fact it always scares the bejesus out of me, especially during the night or really early. It means something is wrong. He wanted to know if his truck acted funny when I drove it to the gym last night. No. Wouldn’t I have said something before he left for work? Well, apparently is was missing and skipping and shut off on his way to work….YAY, GREAT….Well, he made it back towards home after work and dropped it off to our mechanic. Now I’m just waiting for that phone call, lol! You know how mechanics are. I am seriously anticipating hearing $700+ anything less and I’ll dance a jig, hahaha!

Do you sometimes wonder where the money for those unexpected expenses is going to come from? Would you like to be able to know you don’t have to worry about them or run up the credit cards? I don’t know about you, but I hate using a credit card. I prefer to be able just to pay for what I want or need and be done with it. If you’d like to be able to give yourself a little financial cushion, why not join me tonight on the Rodan+Fields zoom call? We have an opportunity call every Wednesday night at 9pm EST. All you need to do is download the zoom app and dial in on 736 578 7052. There is no pressure, just great information on how and why to join the number 1 skin care company in the US. Did you know Rodan+Fields is not a new company? They were actually the number 1 line in Nordstrom for six years, before coming out and going into the DS business. Message or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com if you can make it or want more details.

Print/Pattern Mixing

Boy this has been one of those weeks and it’s only Tuesday! I guess it’s a continuation from last week, which was crazy. Not only was it a full moon then; and the littles were off the charts, they are on their way to repeating it! Next week is the lunar eclipse; does that affect moods and such like the full moon. If so that explains a lot.

Maybe I should ask my long time friend Robert; astronomer extraordinaire. Robert is a childhood friend (elementary school age) who has been interested in space and astronomy for as long as I can remember. He does some fascinating work on the subject (much over my head, but I enjoy reading about it).

Today I am going to share another one of the Style Club challenges from June: print/pattern mixing. Some people sure do seem to have a talent for it. Do  you? I’m not very confident with it, but I decided to give it a whirl. Since it was a summer style challenge, I went with a very casual, pretty much what I try to make a daily look for me; hanging out with the littles. I feel like I can run if I need to. I am not too dressed up (or even dressed up for that matter), but not scruffy either. I spent many days being scruffy when I was heavier. Today could almost be described as that, as I chose not to wear make up or “do” my hair, and am wearing just comfortable joggers and a tee….I am a firm believer in letting your self go without makeup or styling products on occasion. Let your hair and skin breathe.

I don’t think it was horrible and it did receive good reviews, not only in the group but on Instagram. Someone pointed out, in the group, that everything I wear is neatly pressed…well duh, lol. Do people not iron anymore? I admit I have things I don’t but if it needs it, it gets it!

Here is a collage of what I came up with.

The top is new this year from Old Navy. It was the color that drew me to it. My daughter calls this my “signature color” I am starting to agree with her. Heck, many years ago I painted my living room this color. As you can see that has been changed, but I would do it again…..the shorts are from Old Navy too, from last summer.

Here is a close up of the patterns.

Here is the entire ensemble.

The sandals have been my favorite for this summer; Vince Camutos, from HSN. I really do love them, but have to admit they are not the best shoes if you are going to be walking or standing all day, as they do not have much support. The sun glasses (which look huge on me) are one of the pairs I purchased after my ocean trip and that accident with my one pair….They are just fun, and different and work for me. The necklace is a retired Plunder piece but the colors worked well with this outfit and the design worked back to the pattern in the top. The bracelets are Plunder also. These are called the “bling” bracelets, they are magnetic and so easy to put on. They are perfect for those with dexterity problems. The black one is called Ezra and the peachy one is called Kayson. These are fast becoming some of my favorites. They are available along with several others in this style. To order yours, go to: http://www.plunderdesign.com/grandma2glamma and select any party with my name it.

Let us know what you think of patter and print mixing. Do you do it or is it out of your comfort zone?

I Have Lashes

What a week! The littles were off the charts this week. I wonder if it was the full moon? Someone mentioned the lunar eclipse that's coming. Does that affect moods and such too? The baby wasn't even her usual sunshiny self!

I realized on Wednesday that the start of Yoga Teacher Training was only a month away! Yikes! Life is about to get busier yet! Before we know it the holidays will be here….

We will be off to Lancaster, Pennsylvania shortly to shop the outlets for back to school clothes for Noah and Miss Quinn. First I am going to attend my usual meeting of the #saturday7amsocialclub.

My friend Rosie from The Midlife Aesthetic posted a challenge (?) yesterday on Facebook and Instagram. Her challenge was to sit down and plan a "you" weekend. Nothing but you and what you want to do! Wow! I wish we hadn't already planned our weekend. This will be on my list to do, though. If you haven't read Rosie's blog you should check it out. What is your ideal "you" weekend? What would you do, just for you, if you could?

A few weeks ago I told you I had signed on with Rodan+Fields and shared my beginning experience with using Lash Boost. Today I am sharing my results so far. Yesterday was four weeks in.

As you can see my lashes are getting longer and thicker. You can actually see my bottom lashes! I even put mascara on the bottom yesterday! I have never been able to do that!

The picture below is from day one.

The area circled is an actual bald spot in my lashes.

This next picture was yesterday morning.

You can see there are lashes growing in the bald spot, you can see bottom lashes in general! Look how much thicker the top is too!

Below is with mascara on the bottom. I only use one coat of mascara, ever.

My selfies still look like mug shots, lol, but there are lashes on the bottom that I can put mascara on and not accentuate that bald spot (it's on its way out)! My left eye still has to catch up with the right but it's on its way! If you have thin, sparse lashes you really need to try Lash Boost. It typically takes 6-8 weeks to see results.

I have also been using the Redefine regimen. My "eleven" lines (the lines on your forehead, between your eyes) have diminished considerably and my skin overall is tighter! Ladies (and gentlemen) these products do work! If you've been thinking about trying them, don't hesitate. With a 60 day money back guarantee you have nothing to lose. If you don't know where to start go to my website and take the solutions tool. That will help you determine the regimen that's right for you.

It may seem as if I've been talking a lot about Rodan+Fields lately. Maybe. I am becoming more and more passionate about the products and opportunity. This is the first product that I have been able to use a night cream from and not break out!

We all have skin and are aging and so is every one we know. That isn't going to change. Everyone needs good skin care!

If you've been thinking about signing up as a consultant this weekend is a great time. The business is growing and great things are happening. If you decide to join me this weekend you will receive three of the new travel size Redefine regimens and a Lash Boost with the purchase of a kit. To become a consultant go to http://jearlingbencivenni.myrandf.biz and sign up. This is only good through tomorrow night.

Lash Boost is currently sold out. I can't even buy a new supply right now😲and I don't plan to be without it! If you only want Lash Boost send me a message and get on my VIP list. I will let you know when it's back in stock. We are hoping by mid month, which is almost here!

There are three ways to order.

If you just want to try the products and not commit, you can order as a retail customer. That's the most expensive way. Next Friday 8/18  I will be placing a bulk order; if there is a product you would like to try message or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com and I will order it for you at my cost and ship it to you.

Thursday Simple Pleasures 8/10

Hello friends! It’s Thursday again and that means it’s time to share our Simple or Guilty Pleasures. This week I am sharing a Simple Pleasure.

This past Sunday when I went for my long run (usually my only run) I decided it was time to take a different route than I had been taking. I try to switch my routes around now and again, for safety, just in case someone is watching. As a woman running alone and in the wee hours of the morning, I think it’s a good idea.

The route took me down the Peninsula Expressway. This can be a rather busy road, but not so much in the early dawn; which can be good and bad. I was heading over the draw bridge, that crosses Bear Creek, at the perfect time to see the sun rising. Bear Creek opens up into the Chesapeake Bay.

How beautiful is that? God’s handy work. The beauty of nature that is all around us. Sometimes we just have to stop and look. Many times we don’t or we take it for granted. I have run this route many times, but never at the perfect time to see this. I have run this early many times, but I have never seen a sunrise so spectacular while running.

This is my Simple Pleasure for this week. The beauty of nature that surrounds us. A beautiful, peaceful sunrise over the water. Don’t you just love a beautiful sunrise or sunset? What is your Simple or Guilty Pleasure for this week? Please take a moment to share.

Workout Wednesday

This week is out of sync. Since we are planning on taking the grand littles back to school shopping, in Pennsylvania, Saturday I have altered my workout schedule for this week. “The Man” will likely want to leave earlier than we need to, so I won’t have my regular session with Jeff and will likely miss the #saturday7amsocialclub! Altering my schedule with Jeff means I will have six straight workout days, before a rest day! Boy, I hope I can survive it!

The last time I altered my schedule was three weeks ago. Not intentionally, but at the last-minute I had to miss my Wednesday workout. So come Saturday, which is arm day, I was not prepared for Jeff to decide we were going to work arms AND legs to make-up for missing a day…Since we usually only work arms on Saturday I don’t wear my lifting shoes, so we almost didn’t lift, but I suggested lifting barefooted and Jeff agreed. I must be a glutton for punishment!! Remind me why I do this?

Do you remember a few weeks ago, when I told I hit a new deadlift PR of 175 pounds? I told you then it was “almost” the amount I weighed when I started my weight loss journey more than three years ago. The significance didn’t hit me until afterward. I knew I had to keep working.

Well once we got into the lifting phase of this altered work out, Jeff, said we wouldn’t go for weight but volume….unless I wanted to, but we had already done a lot of work with squats and bench pressing. Now what do you think I did? He’s going to give me a choice between repping weights or hitting a new PR….This girl was going for it! Because that carrot was still dangling in front of my nose. My exact words to him were: let’s go for it! What’s the worst that can happen? I won’t get it? Wouldn’t be the first time. When I first went for 175 (earlier in the year) I wasn’t ready and I didn’t even know exactly what was on the bar. I took a potty break (it happens at my age, lol) and when I came back Jeff had added weight. I knew he had, but wasn’t sure exactly how much. I had tried to calculate it in my head, but hadn’t and I really think I just went for it too fast and wasn’t prepared for it.

We racked up 185 and I stared it down and literally walked back and forth, stalking it; for what seemed like forever. I was mentally getting myself ready. Then I went for it!

And I got it! A new PR!!! I knew once I pulled off the floor it was coming up! I have officially lifted more weight than my heaviest weight!!!! I was laughing and crying at the same time! Jeff and my son both said it looked easy. I’m not sure I would go that far, lol, but that two hundred may not seem so far-fetched after all.

If this wasn’t enough when I went in the following Wednesday Jeff had some crazy ideas. Since the weather was nice, after some warm ups with squats on that Smith Machine I showed you then a few traditional squats, we took our work out outside this is what he concocted:

After about ten of these Jeff had the brilliant idea that he would sit on the tire and have me lift it. I budged it some, but wasn’t able to fully get it up. Something to aim for the next time! Maybe.

This is why Jeff has said the weight I have gained back is muscle. He says I  can’t lift that amount of weight without getting stronger and I can’t get stronger without adding muscle….yada yada. Yes, I know but I still do not have to like it! This is the hardest part to wrap my head around. If you have any tips or hints on how to do that, please share!

Apparently I have gained or built my arm muscles. When “The Man” I went shopping this past weekend, I was trying on long-sleeved blouses. They fit my body and not my arms….first world/weightlifter problems? This did not so anything to help my thoughts about adding weight though.

Asymmetrical, Navy, and Fringe

What do you do when you have no plans for the day? Well you go shopping, of course, lol.

Saturday was beautiful. We had no plans but in my mind I was scheming up something to do. It didn’t pan out though. I had read about a butterfly garden down towards D.C. I thought it would be fun. “The Man” thought it would be too hot. Sometimes he seriously plucks my last nerve. We also have a sunflower garden field. Next week they are projected to be at their peak, but we won’t be here…didn’t make it there either.

“The Man” decided let’s go to the mall. Well, we hadn’t been in a bit. So off we went.

As we were approaching WHBM he said “I’m surprised you aren’t going in there” uh? I am. Well, I’m looking around, find a few things and go to the fitting room. Did I tell you they have finally started carrying some of their petite line in the store? I was sooo very excited when that happened! I tried on an outfit and came out to the larger mirrors to see it better. The manager, Mindi, came out of the back and said “hi there! I haven’t seen you in a while” 😳🤣😳 oops! Really? I don’t go there THAT often! Well, you know old eagle ears, who doesn’t hear a thing when you ask him to do something, heard that…..

Now it wasn’t really all that hot, especially in comparison to a couple of weeks ago and there a great breeze. I decided I could actually wear jeans and be comfortable even if we were outside. I recently bought this navy blue asymmetrical top with fringe detail.

This top was the Today’s Special on HSN a couple of weeks ago. It’s from the Serena Williams collection. I loved the asymmetry and fringe! It was available in several colors and I chose the navy, because I realized I had nothing in that color. I almost wish I had ordered a couple other colors. It is such a blank canvas! If you find something you like, do you tend to buy in multiple colors?

When I started going through these photos the first thing I thought was “boy we sure did this all wrong, LOL”!

These sunglasses are one of the pairs I picked up after that “oops” with my pair at the ocean. The pants are my DG2 jeggings that you’ve seen a few times from HSN. The purse is from Michael Kors and is a couple of years old. You’ve seen it here. The white cork wedge sandals are from Aerosoles. I chose the Plunder pieces to add color to a neutral outfit. The necklace is called Carmen, I chose it not only for the bright colors, but the tassels to mirror the fringe of the top. This was a piece I wasn’t sure I would like, until I received it. It was actually part of my free jewelry for hitting a milestone! That’s one of the perks with Plunder. Although, you don’t have to sell a thing or sell a particular amount, if you do reach certain goals or milestones at various points in your first 100 days you earn various bonuses; including business tools, jewelry and monetary bonuses. If you continue to work your business and move up the ladder, there are other perks along the way. The earrings and cuff type bracelet are the July Plunder Posse! It was so popular it sold out within two weeks! They matched back to the necklace perfectly. The multicolored bracelet on my left arm was the extra hostess award for a qualifying party in July and is called Sofia. Please take a minute to comment and let me know what you think of this ensemble.

Here is a bit more close up view of these pieces.

Styling An All White Outfit

TGIF! It’s the weekend! Do you have any plans? As of right now we have none! It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work, so it will most likely be a low-key weekend. We will actually be “home alone” all weekend, there’s no telling what kind of trouble we can get into! Next weekend he wants to take the grand littles to the outlets in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for back to school shopping. That should be quite an adventure! Remember our trip to Dutch Wonderland last month in Lancaster? Miss Quinn has been saying she wants to go back. Guess what we will ride right past in route to the outlets? Yep…. They are on the same street. Who thinks that will be a fun shopping trip? Wish me luck, lol!

I’m finally getting my Style Club challenges together! Better late than never, right? Lol! I showed you one of the looks I pulled together, from the challenge, last week. I’m not going in order since I didn’t participate in all of the challenges in June.

I didn’t participate at all during July! July was all about color and with the younger littles coming back, I found it to be to be too much! The great thing is you can participate as much or as little as you want! I may go back and work through some of it on my own.

Many of the ladies in the group have had their colors done. They find out if they are cool or warm, summer, fall, winter, or spring. What colors/shades/tones are better with their coloring. It sounds interesting and scary! I haven’t and would likely find I should throw out everything I like, lol! Have you ever had yours done? If so, what did you think? Would you recommend it?

The second challenge for June was to style an all white outfit! I’ve told you before I’m the person who shouldn’t wear white on any day that ends in “Y”, lol, but I do like the nice, fresh, crisp look of white, and I do wear it.

The exercise was to start with an all white outfit and add a colorful kimono, then add a belt for further interest. I still haven’t made the leap to a kimono, yet, but I had just recently bought the Black and Gray Cascading Vest from Covered Perfectly which was, well, perfect. Another piece I hemmed and hawed about. One day I may learn. Everything I have ever purchased from Covered Perfectly has been great! I was concerned it would be too long for me. I ordered it to use as a coverup when we went to the ocean in June, you can read about that here if you haven’t already. It’s very light weight and thin and I felt it would be a perfect beach/pool coverup. It didn’t disappoint, but I wasn’t able to get any pictures!

This is the day I decided to experimenting with taking my own photos! I’m sure I’ll get better at this as time goes on. If you have any tips, pass them along, please!

Here is a collage of some of the looks.

I started with my white jeggings and a white sleeveless top that I showed you here.

Then I added my Cascading Vest. It’s such a versatile piece; that can easily be styled in a few different ways. It is perfect for helping to camouflage those jiggly, wiggly bits.

In the first picture below I just left it open.

Then I loosely tied it between my waist and hip area. This is also how I wore it at the beach for a cover-up.

I decided to add my pink Dooney & Bourke cross-body bag to for a pop of color.

My belted look. The belt is and shoes are a couple of years old. The belt is from White House Black Market and the shoes are by Italian Shoemakers and came from DSW.

Still belted, but I wanted to try a different pair of shoes. I changed to these black and white sandals from Vince Camuto. I got them from, you guessed it (if you’re a regular follower) HSN! I thought the black and white shoes might work by mirroring or bookending the black and white at the top.

I wasn’t sure I liked the look of the black and white shoes, but the ladies in the style club loved it and them, and they did achieve what I set out to do. What do you think? Which shoes do you prefer?

I tried adding a bit of color with my jewelry in addition to my bag.

I chose the pieces for the red/burgundy color to play off the pink of the bag. The necklace is a Plunder piece and is called Amari.  The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece. My baroque pearl earrings (you know I have to add pearls somewhere) are several years old and part of a set, one of my kids gave me as a gift.

What do you think of this versatile Cascading Vest?  I liked it so much I went back and ordered it in the Blue and Cream (which happens to be on sale right now). I’m sure it won’t last long so if you like it you better hurry over and order yours!

Simple Pleasure Thursday 8/3

Wow! It’s Thursday, that means it’s time for a Simple Pleasure, and the weekend is almost here! Yay!!!

August is off to a great start. After the crazy extended hot weather in July, things seem to have settled down a bit. I wouldn’t say it’s cool, but right now it’s not oppressively hot. I’ll take it!

This week my Simple Pleasure is a good nights sleep! Not just the number of hours I get, but the quality of those hours!

I try to get a minimum of seven hours sleep each night. That seems to be a good number for me. For the past several weeks that has not happened, consistently. And boy was I feeling it this past weekend! So much so that I didn’t even try to run on Sunday!

When I woke up Sunday to get ready, for my run, I felt like crap! My sinuses and throat were stinging and burning. You know that “is it allergies or am I coming down with something” feeling? I got, made coffee, and tried to talk myself into going; but I couldn’t make myself get ready. Missing an entire run at this stage isn’t good for the training plan, but stressing my body, getting sick, and missing more runs or workouts would be worse. So I just decided to take it easy for the day. It was actually nice to do practically nothing, for a change.

Sunday night I was in bed at 7:30, and asleep before 8:00! Thanks to my Fitbit I can track my sleep patterns.

This may not look like “good” sleep, but it’s better than it had been and I felt much better when I woke up Monday morning! The first awake period was when “The Man” got up for work. The second was when Miss Quinn decided to come sleep with me. She is not easy to sleep with! I think last week either she, Noah, or both wandered in every night. Do you know how much room a three year old can take up in a king sized bed? 😳 a lot, lol!

One day “The Man” came home and asked her where she slept that night. She told him in “mine and Oma’s bed”, haha! She wandered in last Friday night, not too long before I had to get up and get ready to leave for WW and the gym. When I got up to go she said to him “Pop you need to get on the other side of the bed” meaning my side. He was on “her side”! Cheeky little thing, she is!

Do you have a simple pleasure to share with us this week? Have you gotten a break from the weather? Someone posted to Facebook today, that it’s 50 days until fall! I’m so excited! Fall is my favorite season and Spring is a close second! I like summer for the longer days, but not the heat. What is your favorite season?
