Just Breathe

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to make this year yours!

2018-A new year with 365 days of possibilities. Okay it’s the second day in so we only have 364 now, but that’s still plenty of blank pages to write in and make this a great year!

Do you choose a word for the year? Have you chosen words in the past but let it fall by the wayside? Would you like to choose one for this year? There’s still time. If you have or do,  please share with us.

I started choosing a word a few years back, but I didn’t last year. Could that be why I had a hard year? I’m not sure, but I decided to get back to it this year. As I was looking for my word two words kept showing up for me BREATHE and BRAVE. I chose BREATHE.

Why BREATHE? Last year I didn’t choose a word and started so many new things; the blog, my businesses, Yoga Teacher Training, running the half and full marathon in one weekend and powerlifting. With all that, I lost some focus (which I’ve shared with you on and off through the year). In yoga, we are taught to always go back to the breath, our pranayama (our life force). When I run and my breathing isn’t right I have a hard time. If I tell myself to go back to my breath and slow down until I am breathing right I have a much better and successful run. So the word BREATHE will remind me to slow down and refocus; whether it’s with diet, exercise, life, YTT (which is where I plan to put a lot of focus the next couple of months) or business.

I need to stay focused on the important things. Yes, these are all important, and I can focus and work on all of them but not obsess and make myself crazy trying to do too much. YTT is the most important right now. As we near the half point it is getting more intense and taking more time and energy, along with self-reflection. To finish strong and successfully I need to stay focused and breathe. I will still work my businesses but I will not stress over trying to grow them overnight. That will come with time. That is the good thing about a direct sales business (at least the ones I chose) I don’t have to meet any minimums each month. I can work at my own pace, and make the business fit my life, not my life fit the business. I lost sight of that for a bit and was burning the candle at both ends. I had to take a step back and let it go. Have you been there?

As my yoga instructor is fond of saying “you are right where you are meant to be in this moment”. Yes, I am. And when I try to go at a pace that is too much I will come back and BREATHE and refocus.

I am joining a group of friends in reading the book The Secret The Magic by Rhonda Byrne along with starting a gratitude journal. Have you read the book and if so what are your thoughts? Do you journal? I have tried (unsuccessfully) in the past. The blog is the closest I’ve come to that. But I am giving it go. We are going to read the book and journal our gratitudes together for 28 days starting on 1/8. If you would like to join us there is still time. Message me and I will add you to Facebook and the group.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Happy Friday! The last Friday before Christmas! Wow, how did that happen? Where has the time gone?

Are y’all ready for Christmas? Have you checked the list twice and finished all shopping?  Are the presents wrapped?

I am done for the littles! Woo Hoo! And I (pretty much) stuck to the four gift rule: something to wear, something to read, something they want, something they need. Okay there maybe a couple “wants” instead of one,  but none of them really “need” anything. It will not look like Toys R Us exploded in the living room for each child though. THAT is a major improvement by itself.

My kids? Not so much, lol! I told them I wouldn’t shop for them until the littles were done….if they forgot I guess they’ll know if they read this post, lol! And only one gave me an idea of what they want/need….

Yesterday marked the official start of winter! The longest night of the year. The days will start getting longer from here! Yay! The short days are my biggest gripe with winter, way more than the cold.

And “Old Man Winter” arrived in the Mid-Atlantic two weekends ago! We had our first snow on Saturday and a little more Wednesday night, then even more last Friday evening. Three times in one week! Friday’s snow was just enough and timed just right to cancel YTT for the evening! Fortunately, it was only for Friday and we aren’t into our makeup weekend, yet….

Have you had snow in your neck of the woods yet? Assuming you are in an area where snow happens.

Having snow this early here may not bode well for the rest of the winter, although, tomorrow it is supposed to be around 60! Time will tell.

Two Friday’s ago was also Miss Quinn’s preschool Christmas program. We thought it was completely revamped but the three year old portion of the program was the same as previous years. There were some cute changes too!

This year Miss Quinn was a candy cane!

How adorable was she?

Now you may be wondering how a candy cane fits in with a Christmas program at a Christian pre school. I was wondering the same thing myself. It wasn’t long before the story unfolded.

The candy canes and presents were woven into a Christmas story about the birth of Jesus.

I haven’t written a true “Fashion Friday” post in a while, mainly because I haven’t taken any photos to share. I haven’t quite got to where I can take my own and haven’t had anyone else take them either. I also like taking them out and about instead of at home, lol, and we have been home bodies lately.  Guess we better start going places again.

I struggled with showing you the next photo. It was the best of the ones taken but I was not happy at all with what I see. I think the camera definitely picked up those few extra pounds I found this year! Maybe this was just the wake up call I need! Now I will say, the angle wasn’t the best either. But it’s either get my act together or start shopping for new clothes, again. That is not an option, at least not for a larger size. Who would turn down regular shopping?

Another thing I’ve mentioned before is I am considered “high contrast” This particular pairing does not reflect that. The sweater, in my signature burgundy, is from White House Black Market, last year. It is actually asymmetrical but the way I’m standing you can’t see that, as it’s lower on the other side. I paired it with black leggings and black tall boots that have just a tiny almost kitten heel. Boots with a higher heel would have been a better choice, as would lighter pants (at least for me). The jewelry is the Elm Set from Plunder, pictured below.

This can be purchased as a set or as separate pieces. The necklace is Davina, the bracelet is Ashlyn, and the earrings are Jaycee. Purchasing as a set if you want all three pieces will save you a few dollars, and who doesn’t want to save money? The white beads on the necklace and bracelet have veins of gold running through them, you might just be able to see them in the picture.

You may have notice this is my first post this week. It has been a week of introspection for me, coming off my YTT weekend and I have pretty much stayed off social media and have not written either. It was quite a weekend. A lot of emotion and churning and I was flat-out mentally and physically exhausted until mid-week! With five more classes to go, I can see this trend continuing as I study and grow.

Freestyling

Remember how excited I have been for the new changes/tweaks that were coming to the Weight Watchers plan? So excited I’m fact that I was learning all I could before the official rollout! Well, I got the entire scoop Saturday when I attended the #saturday7amsocialclub.

Freestyle is finally here!

I didn’t learn anything I hadn’t already found out (sometimes social media is a wonderful thing, lol) but I was excited to “get the scoop” anyway!

Along with all the new materials! And my new charm/bling!

This one was for attending the past five meetings (you could have attended four meetings if one was thanksgiving week and still get it). It was to introduce the freestyle plan!

I love getting new bling!

I also told you I was going to do a cleanse to go along with the official start. I researched a couple and decided on a two-day “gentle cleanse” from IT Works.

A WW friend of mine decided to try it too, so we ordered our cleanse and waited for it to arrive. My original idea was to do the cleanse on Thursday and Friday last week so that I would have it out-of-the-way for the Freestyle launch. Mine, however, got stuck along the way and took five extra days to get here. Maybe that should have been a sign. So I waited to cleanse this past Sunday and Monday. I wasn’t sure how this cleanse would go (no pun intended) and didn’t want to get stuck out some where……I’m sure you know what I mean. My friend said she hadn’t had any harsh side effects so I wasn’t expecting any either and there weren’t any.

In fact I’m not sure what it did, if anything.

Well, all had been rolling along going quite nicely. Until Tuesday….I was certainly “freestyling” then…..I think I gave a new meaning to the word….I’m sure if the WW police find out they’ll be knocking down the door 😳!

I free-styled my way into more points than I cared to track. It was a day of brownies, chips, and candy…oh my! I awoke yesterday feeling like crap determined to do better……but, what is they say about plans? Yeah. All was fine until lunch time and the last of those brownies called my name.

I might be mistaken but I don’t think that was the idea behind the “Freestyle” plan….

Since my plan for this holiday season is to maintain the weight I was at my first of the month weigh in, I better get my head out of my backside! Right now I might be my own worst enemy….Am I the only one in this boat?

My Christmas Wish

I have been asked “What do you want for Christmas”. Honestly, I don’t want or need “stuff”.

All I want for Christmas is……(Something money can’t buy……)

You……

We all know that song. If not you can click on the link to hear it.

https://youtu.be/pw3PhhSfcQg

And although it is referring to a lover or significant other, it is also my Christmas Wish.

Please forgive me as this post may ramble and be all over the place today. I am writing from my heart and what comes may not be in any order and I will not try to edit it.

For the past couple of years there has been someone missing from our Christmas celebration; our oldest granddaughter Brooklyn aka Brookie.

Is this Brooklyn’s wish or is there more at play here? It’s hard to say, she is now 14 1/2 now going on 40! So anything is possible.

We have actually only spent one “real” Christmas Day with her in her entire life. From the time she was three we had “Special Christmas”. And she was three before we were ever able to spend that time with her. Brookie would come “home” on December 26th and we would have Christmas with her sometime before New Years. After that first year with “real” Christmas she said she wanted to rotate with “Special Christmas” just like we did Thanksgiving, but it has never happened.

In 2006, when Brookie was three, my son and her mother separated. A very long and contentious story that I won’t go into detail with now. Her mother and her family has always tried to keep Brooklyn from our family since the day she was born, it appears they have finally managed to get their way, but I digress….

Up until last year 2016, things remained pretty regular with visits and our “traditions”. In the spring of 2016 she was here for her regular spring break week and all was well. We planned a family vacation to Disney in August that she wanted to go on and we included her in the plans. A few weeks before time to go I contacted her mother to set up the day and time to pick her up and was told “Brooklyn no longer wants to go”. I’m still not sure I believe it was her idea, but, as she barely communicates anymore and has never admitted that it was her idea to not go I don’t know. I find it hard to believe she would turn down a trip to Disney with the possibility of going to Universal Studios (she is a big Harry Potter fan). We hadn’t told her but had planned on a day there just for her.  Fortunately it was enough time that we were able to cancel her tickets and not lose the money that had been spent. Is that a harsh way of looking at it? Maybe, to a point, but if you’ve ever spent a week or even a day at Disney you know it takes a little more than pocket change…..

Although I tried having regular communication with her after that (I always initiated, it was only on occasion that she did), and she did respond most of the time, something wasn’t quite right. Then on Thanksgiving Day I awake to find we were all tagged in the following post on Facebook:

Brook Elizabeth is with Larry Bencivenni and 5 others.

Welp guess what I’m bisexual.

The bible said Adam and Eve so I decided on both.
If it makes you love me anyless then you don’t love me, you love your idea of me. I honestly do not give a crap what you think of me.
I am me.
And I am happy to be me.

Now the funny thing is she surprised no one….I refused to give in to her theatrics (I felt she was looking for a fight or a negative response) and responded in a personal message, not a public Facebook message; letting her know she was loved and accepted and that she would always have a place in our lives and home here. I also let her know that she only admitted what we already knew. Again I tried to keep communication open and thought things were going ok, until March of this year, although she still wouldn’t commit to coming.

She wouldn’t say she didn’t want to come, but wouldn’t commit to coming for her regular times either. My last message with her, was that when she was ready we would make sure we could get her here. She said ok.

A few days later I received a message from her mother that she was not coming, she was being pressured to come and the only we could see her is if my son and I only went there. She would see no one else. I refused to be “ordered”(especially by her mother) and due to past issues with violence in that family would not put myself in that position. Not only that, it was only a couple of weeks before Caterina was due and the weather was still not good for traveling to the “north country”.

I have not had any contact with Brooklyn since then. I stopped contacting her. Is it childish of me? My thought is if she wants contact she will initiate it.

I have kind of taken the approach of the poem:

“If you love something, let it go”

Whether that is the right approach, I don’t know. Only time will tell.

I did post to her for her birthday and Thanksgiving. There was no response. It seems the only people she occasionally contacts is my former son-in-law and my daughter-in-law, and that is minimal.

Whether or not this is her I don’t know. She posts all kinds of stuff to face book that would make a sailor blush. She can act very grown and intolerant of anyone who doesn’t completely agree with her views. No ones opinion is right but hers. So I find it hard to believe she needs “mommy to speak for her”. But who knows.

She has since decided she is not bi-sexual, or that she is now gender neutral; neither female nor male. But comes up with something new almost weekly. I cannot pretend to understand that. No one I know does. But she doesn’t give us a chance to understand either. If any of you have any insight into this, please lets talk about it. I want to understand.

For Christmas 2014, I received the following charm and note from Brooklyn. It is very treasured. I only hope one day she remembers what she wrote and finds her way home.

So my Christmas Wish is that Brookie will “want” to come home and “will” come home. I don’t see that happening this year, but there is still time. I would move heaven and earth to get here, no matter what, if I got that message. I have made that trip more than once in blinding snow, I would do it again.

So Santa if you read this and it is within your power……

The “magic key” will be hung beside the door.

Until the next time

Freebie Friday

Hi there! It’s Friday again. Christmas is barely more than two weeks away, and life is going to get crazy or crazier….

What do you have in the works for the weekend? Anything fun?

If you a regular reader of the blog you probably already know part of what I will be doing. Lol, I am rather predictable. But before my regular Saturday activities (you know the #saturday7amsocialclub and my session with Jeff) get here; tonight we will be attending Miss Quinn’s preschool Christmas play. Since Miss Quinn is the third grand little to attend preschool at Inverness Presbyterian Preschool the play was the same for many years. This year they have changed it! It will be exciting to see the changes and the new play! The kids are always so cute. It’s amazing to see the changes in most of them from their three-year old year to four.

Hopefully my Saturday activities will occur. The “S” word (snow) has been thrown around, and would more likely be more of a winter mix and may cause things to be closed or delayed. I hope not. I will officially switch over to the new WW plan #Freestyle. I am looking forward to all the new information!

Next week I will be gearing up for YTT next weekend. It is sure to have me in a tizzy, again, lol!

Today is the last day of my participation in the Real Moms Blog 12 Days of Giveaways. Today’s giveaway is a basket of Rodan+Fields goodies, pictured below!

Simple Pleasure Thursday 12/7

Here we are one full week into December!

Can you believe it? Are you all ready for the holidays? I am soooo not.

We do have a tree up. And since it’s pre-lit, it has lights. Oh and the kids “special” ornaments for this year. Does it need more? Sometimes I don’t think so. Now don’t get me wrong, I love decorating the tree with ornaments of years gone by and reminiscing over them, but I also like sitting with only the tree for light, sipping tea or cocoa, and listening to Christmas carols. It’s even better if it’s snowing outside or there’s snow covering the ground (which doesn’t often happen this time of year).

And that friends, is my Simple Pleasure for this week. Sitting quietly at night with only the light from the Christmas tree, listening to Christmas carols, and sipping a cuppa.

What is your Simple Pleasure or perhaps Guilty Pleasure this week?

Tuesday I told you about participating with Real Moms Blogs 12 Days of Giveaways. Today is my day. I will be posting about Plunder and giving away a Plunder Posse. The winner will be able to choose from either the November or December Posse!

Why a choice? I couldn’t decide which to give! I love them both and know you will too….so I decided to make it winners choice and I’m going to add in an extra surprise….Have you joined the Facebook page so that you can participate and enter? If not there’s still time! Not only for today’s giveaway but the rest of them too! You can join in the fun here!

You have until 12am MST to enter each days drawing and the winner will be announced the following morning.

A Busy Time

Is it just me or does December seem to be marching by really fast? I guess 2018 is in a hurry to get here, or 2017 is ready to be done, lol!

Did y’all have a good weekend? Mine was fifty shades of busy, but fun!

It started out Friday with a special yoga class. It was a strap class. If you practice yoga you probably know you can use a strap to modify a posture that you may struggle with or to help you get deeper into a posture. This class was using the strap as part of the posture. It was a lot of fun! But it also was a great way to change the dynamic of the postures! This will be fun to continue practicing.

Saturday morning brought about the #saturday7amsocialclub and my session with Jeff!

Last week I told you I was hoping to not be up too much from the previous weeks WI (remember the WI I said I should not have done, lol). I don’t feel like I was doing a good job working the plan last week but I did recover and was only up half a pound from the previous week. Not too bad. I will work diligently to maintain that throughout the remainder of the holiday season! But if I lose a little that will be just fine, too!

I was free for December! Woo Hoo!

I also received my annual lifetime key! If you weigh in free for 10 out of 12 mos you get a new lifetime key each year. January is the month I made it back to goal, three years ago. I always get my key in December instead of earlier or waiting because I have weighed in every month of the calendar year. So far I have weighed in below goal every month since getting back to goal. I am planning to continue that trend. I gave WW plenty of my money to lose weight, I don’t plan to give them more….lol!

The new plan, or plan tweaks I guess I should say, rolled out Sunday. I won’t get the true sense of it or the materials until Saturday when it’s my official weigh in day. I told you I was playing with it a bit for the past couple of weeks, based on the rumors from the changes in the UK. Now that it’s here the postings are going crazy so I’m diving into more strictly based on the info being posted. I have adjusted my app to work, but am also tracking on paper, since the points values of foods won’t change for me until Saturday. I could go to an alternate meeting and get the materials (and I’m tempted) but I will wait.

I know a couple of you have mentioned maybe restarting WW. Have you taken the plunge? Are you waiting until the new year? If you have, and have the new materials, what do you think of the new changes? If you haven’t these changes seem to be great. I think it will make the plan much easier to fit into busy schedules! I would love to hear your thoughts.

Then Sunday I set up with Plunder and did my first ever vendor event!

This was definitely a bit different for me! I know y’all love Plunder and I thought it was time to share it with others. This was an event that is usually quite busy, but this time it was pretty slow. I did meet some new people and hopefully some new friends, but I was surprised that it wasn’t busier. All in all it was fun, a new experience, and practice for the possibility of participating in future events. “The Man” got to go grocery shopping again…..I’ve said this before, we won’t starve…..lol!

I will participating in a holiday giveaway with Real Moms Blog on the 7th and 8th! I will be giving away Plunder on the 7th and Rodan+Fields on the 8th. There are other giveaways throughout the week! Go to the Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/groups/134351100559794 and join in so that you can participate! The more the merrier!

If you are still looking for some last-minute gifts Plunder is shipping same/next day for now so there’s still time order and to receive it in time for your holiday celebrations and gift giving. Rodan+Fields orders need to be placed by 12/11 to guarantee you receive them in time for Christmas, unless you want to pay for expedited shipping.

I still can’t believe it’s so close! Have you finished shopping or still working on it? We are still working on it. I can’t believe how far behind I really am….each child has something, but I am behind. I haven’t been this behind in forever! I have been trying to adopt the four gift rule for  couple of years “something to wear, something to read, something they want, something they need” “The Man” fights that concept. He seems to think the house needs to look like Toys R Us exploded in the living room! I’m sure we aren’t the only ones who would have a house full of stuff that is forgotten by the end of the day and maybe no longer works…..I hope we can avoid that. How do you handle the holidays? Have you adopted a gift number rule or set a dollar amount  per person to spend? Or are you like “The Man”?

Let me hear from you! I’m interested in how others make this work. No judgement, just curious.

Simple Pleasure Thursday 11/30

Good morning! It the last day of November and it’s also Thursday. I bet you already knew that, lol.

Where has the month gone? If you know, please clue me in!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a Simple Pleasure. Not because I haven’t had any, I have just had a hard time sitting down to write. This month has been busy, and it’s a time that I seem to withdraw and this year has been especially hard. But that’s a post for another day!

This past weekend we had a little friend drop by to visit us, again, for a while.

Meet our scout elf Jingle! Jingle, has been coming each year since 2013. Sometimes he can be a daredevil, as you can see. Over the years he has lost his hat in his escapades! For the most part he has been pretty tame.

But.

He has also been known to be a little mischievous and get into some trouble.

Apparently he didn’t get the memo his first year here that my Ghiradelli dark chocolate peppermint candy was off limits….it seems he an his little friends had a quite a night of fun and partying!

I just love watching Noah and Miss Quinn wake up and start looking for him in the mornings. We are having a hard time keeping Noah from telling Miss Quinn where he is, if he wakes up and finds him first. Lessa was excited seeing him the first day, and was quite upset when she couldn’t play with him, but has since stopped paying him any attention. Maybe next year she will be more into looking for him. After her initial meltdown, I’m not pushing the issue this year!

I wonder if he really reports everything to Santa? If so, there may be a lot of coal delivered to my house this year, lol! I guess it’s a good thing he comes early, there might be time for redemption….

What are some of your Simple Pleasures? Or do you have a Guilty Pleasure to share this week?

One Holiday Down

It’s Wednesday (I think, lol)! Thanksgiving is over by almost a week and we survived.

Did y’all had a hard time remembering what day it was over the weekend? I sure did! And I’m not sure I have it all together yet, lol!

We didn’t have our “official” Thanksgiving dinner until Sunday. Let me tell you, it was just as crazy as having it on Thanksgiving day, hahaha! Are you shocked? We ate early, as in lunch time vs dinner/supper time. That added to the weirdness. We were done eating, the food put away, the kitchen cleaned and it was barely 2:30! It seemed as if it should have been bed time! I literally just laid around in the couch and did nothing the rest of the day! Not good, I know, but moving wasn’t a good option either. Ironically I didn’t eat a lot of food, only a little bit of everything and only one helping. But as many holiday meals go, it was very carb laden!

I have dubbed this time of year the five-week long “eat fest”! It seems we start eating at thanksgiving and don’t stop until New Years! Do you notice that? That’s why it’s so easy to pack on the pounds during the holidays. I have managed to lose a bit or maintain through the holidays for the past several years. I’m not letting that change this year!

I thought I was going to do great this year. Saturday, I weighed in at the #saturday7amsocialclub down from my previous WI and thought I’d be good for this upcoming official first of the month WI by not having Thanksgiving until Sunday….so far I was mistaken. Monday morning I was up 2 lbs from Saturday and I’m still there. I’ve been back on track or so I thought and trying to be cautious and tracking but nothing is budging. Did I really gain 2 lbs from one days meal? Not likely. Saturday I also met with Jeff, my trainer, for my usual Saturday workout. Let me tell you, I still feel that. If that wasn’t enough he messaged me Monday evening to see if I wanted to meet him at 7:00! My response was “huh, what, who? Tonight”? His response was “lol, yes”…. what did I do? I got dressed and went! Crazy? In hindsight, maybe! If I wasn’t sore from Saturday, I certainly am now! So could some of my weight gain be the muscle inflammation? Most likely it’s a factor. Do I want to see it on the scale? No. I’m hoping as I get back on a regular schedule with Jeff this doesn’t continue.

The smart thing (at least to keep me out of my head) would have been not to have weighed on Saturday. I am still down from my “official” first of the month October WI, now to get back to where I was!

To try to help myself regain my focus, I have decided to try a cleanse. It’s a two-day cleanse that you can do once a month from IT Works. Have any of you tried their products? If so what are your thoughts? This will be my first experience. I like that it’s only a short process and I’m hoping it helps me refocus along with the new changes coming to WW. I won’t “officially” learn the new plan until 12/9. Hopefully the cleanse will be here by around that time and I can work them together.

If you are on a weight loss journey; What are your goals for the holiday season? Do you want to lose weight? Are you ok with gaining a set amount of weight? Or do you want to maintain where you are and then refocus on losing after the holidays? What are your trigger foods? Is it the sweets and baked goods or the “real” food? Lets talk it out and make a plan and do this together!

My goal is to maintain wherever I will be on Saturday. If I lose that’s ok too, but I will be focusing on not gaining!

I will keep you updated.
