Simple Pleasure Thursday 12/7

Here we are one full week into December!

Can you believe it? Are you all ready for the holidays? I am soooo not.

We do have a tree up. And since it’s pre-lit, it has lights. Oh and the kids “special” ornaments for this year. Does it need more? Sometimes I don’t think so. Now don’t get me wrong, I love decorating the tree with ornaments of years gone by and reminiscing over them, but I also like sitting with only the tree for light, sipping tea or cocoa, and listening to Christmas carols. It’s even better if it’s snowing outside or there’s snow covering the ground (which doesn’t often happen this time of year).

And that friends, is my Simple Pleasure for this week. Sitting quietly at night with only the light from the Christmas tree, listening to Christmas carols, and sipping a cuppa.

What is your Simple Pleasure or perhaps Guilty Pleasure this week?

Tuesday I told you about participating with Real Moms Blogs 12 Days of Giveaways. Today is my day. I will be posting about Plunder and giving away a Plunder Posse. The winner will be able to choose from either the November or December Posse!

Simple Pleasure Thursday 11/30

Good morning! It the last day of November and it’s also Thursday. I bet you already knew that, lol.

Where has the month gone? If you know, please clue me in!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a Simple Pleasure. Not because I haven’t had any, I have just had a hard time sitting down to write. This month has been busy, and it’s a time that I seem to withdraw and this year has been especially hard. But that’s a post for another day!

This past weekend we had a little friend drop by to visit us, again, for a while.

Meet our scout elf Jingle! Jingle, has been coming each year since 2013. Sometimes he can be a daredevil, as you can see. Over the years he has lost his hat in his escapades! For the most part he has been pretty tame.

But.

He has also been known to be a little mischievous and get into some trouble.

Apparently he didn’t get the memo his first year here that my Ghiradelli dark chocolate peppermint candy was off limits….it seems he an his little friends had a quite a night of fun and partying!

I just love watching Noah and Miss Quinn wake up and start looking for him in the mornings. We are having a hard time keeping Noah from telling Miss Quinn where he is, if he wakes up and finds him first. Lessa was excited seeing him the first day, and was quite upset when she couldn’t play with him, but has since stopped paying him any attention. Maybe next year she will be more into looking for him. After her initial meltdown, I’m not pushing the issue this year!

I wonder if he really reports everything to Santa? If so, there may be a lot of coal delivered to my house this year, lol! I guess it’s a good thing he comes early, there might be time for redemption….

What are some of your Simple Pleasures? Or do you have a Guilty Pleasure to share this week?

Happy Halloween

🎃Happy Halloween 🎃

Are you ready for the little ghosts and goblins? Do you dress up and “get into” it or just wait for the kids to knock on the door?

We go through spurts! Sometimes we decorate the house completely, sometimes not at all. Sometimes we all dress up and canvas the neighborhood as a family, but this year is going to be low-key.

Halloween being in the middle of the week puts a damper on some plans. I don’t think “The Man” minds too much though. He will dress up when we “make him” lol, but I don’t think he likes it, haha (or maybe he just doesn’t like the photos).

The family dress up theme started the year Noah was born and has continued to incorporate every one.

Here is where it started:

Mickey, Minnie, and Donald
Wendy, Peter Pan, and Captain Hook

Then Miss Quinn came along.

The Smurfs

Then the following year we all got in on the act and I resurrected my sewing machine.

Meet the Flintstones

And it grew from there

Horror movie couples: Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein, Gomez and Morticia, and Chuckie and the Bride of Chuckie

Our horror movie couples came about from the dress below: Our thrift store find “Vintage Versace”. At least that’s what the price tag said, lol. Although Versace was spelled incorrectly. I’m going with it.

Which came about the year before; 2014 was the year my son and DIL became engaged. As a prank for Halloween that year, we decided to decorate their yard during the night. This was the result.

They woke up to this the next morning and sent us a picture wanting to know if we had anything to do with it, lol!

I still laugh about it when I think of us sneaking around putting them up during the night and their windows were wide open! It was quite a sight. Well, running around gathering the stuff to make the scarecrows at the last-minute was quite an endeavor and sight too!

Last year it was time to get Lessa into the act as well. It is also when Noah and Miss Quinn started coming up with their own ideas and we had to get really creative.

The Mario game

That’s what brought on the Mario game theme. Noah was insistent on being a ghost and Miss Quinn just had to be a princess. So Noah is the ghost in the game and Miss Quinn is princess peach. Lessa is Yoshi. I think the rest is self-explanatory. But if not, Amanda is a mushroom, Chelsea is Mario, I’m Luigi, and Patrick is a mystery box.

This year they had their own ideas again and we could come up with nothing to make it work to incorporate everyone.

So if everyone does dress up, we will all be different without a clear theme. There was talk of everyone being circus animals and I could be the ringmaster or zoo animals and I could be the zookeeper, lol, but that isn’t happening. So it will be a surprise, that I will share with you later.

Simple Pleasure Thursday 10/26

Wow! It’s Thursday already! Time sure does fly! Someone I know on Facebook posted yesterday that it was only two months until Christmas! I had not thought that far ahead.

Have you?

I am not ready to even think about it!

Do you have a simple or guilty pleasure to share this week?

My simple pleasure this week came to me during the races this past weekend. Now I know I shared my adventures with you yesterday, but I left some things out to share today. I felt they needed their own time and page.

My simple pleasure is the sense of community I witness every time I run at home.

As many of you know I live in Baltimore, MD. There are two Baltimore’s in a sense. There is the City of Baltimore (which is what most people refer to when talking about Baltimore) and Baltimore County (that’s where I live). The county is an area of suburbs made up of numerous communities that once had their own name (mine is Dundalk).

Unless you live under a rock or don’t watch the news, you have likely heard of some discord and goings on in Baltimore City the past few years (I am being kind). Baltimore, has gotten a pretty bad rap. What you see in the news and media is a racial divide. What doesn’t get portrayed is the strong sense of community in the city.

They don’t show the residents that come out every year to support a group of 20,000+ runners from all 50 states and this year 34 countries who run through their neighborhoods (sometimes a couple of times a year as there may be more than one race that comes through). As runners we are from ALL walks of life, all races, religions, ethnicities, but what we see are other runners.

You don’t see the men, women, and children, of Baltimore, who are up at the crack of dawn and on their front steps, porches, or stoops waiting as the first runner runs past and still there when the “back of the packers” come through (I know, that’s my tribe sometimes). They don’t see race, ethnicities or religions either. They are there to cheer the runners on (from the first elite runner to the struggling straggler); the runners that are invading their neighborhoods, offering encouraging words, high fiving (and you can bet if a child is there for a high-five I will make sure they get one, even if it slows me down), and often times offering snacks; that may include gummy bears, bagels, bananas, sliced oranges, pretzels, chips, you name it, water, and even beer. This is in addition to the water and Gatorade stops put out by the race team. These folks put out their own money to provide snacks and water along they way to help the runners reach the finish line. Runners they have probably never met and may or may not ever see again. And let me just tell you, runners are a trusting bunch. We partake. When you are “running on empty” and that orange slice shows up, you take it and thank the person standing there. The term “stranger danger” never enters your mind. If you are hurting and another runner comes by and offers Tylenol or something to help with the pain; you take it and don’t even think twice. It’s these things that always reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.

“In spite of everything I still believe people are really good at heart”. Anneliese (Anne) Marie Frank 1929-1945

In other cities where I’ve run, there is crowd support and organizations that set up along the route with snacks and such for runners. Heck, we had a smorgasbord in D.C. at times, but in Baltimore it’s the “people”, the community that give of themselves. People helping people. This is the Baltimore that I know. This is the Baltimore I hope others see and I hope you see that in your community as well.

Simple Pleasure Thursday 10/12

It’s Thursday! That must mean it’s time for our simple/guilty pleasures.

Do you have a simple or guilty pleasure to share this week? Mine is a bit silly, but that’s what simple pleasures are for, right?

This past week has been crazy busy as I’ve been telling you about. The Rodan+Fields convention, YTT, and now integrating back into real life, oh and let’s not forget mountains on top of mountains of homework!

My simple pleasure this week is thanks to the R+F girls!

I do believe I have mentioned at least once or twice that we have a R+F business opportunity call every month and a team call each week. Last week three ladies from our team got together and headed to Charleston, SC for a virtual convention event. Two ladies from Virginia, Tania and LeighAnn (who are practically neighbors) met Lucille from New Jersey, at an airport in North Carolina before driving on to South Carolina. They had never met her in person before.

When we had our ZOOM call Wednesday night LeighAnn was so excited! She had finally met someone shorter than her! Apparently Lucille is only 5′ tall. When I told them she had me beat (you know I’ve told you I can only claim 5′ on an eighties hair day) they couldn’t believe it! They said they thought I would be tall. I guess sitting down in front of the computer on a call makes me look tall, lol! I’m going to be meeting one of the other girls, Kathy, for dinner tomorrow night. She lives in Delaware and we are going to meet about half way. We are both excited! That’s the good thing about living in tiny states; you don’t have to travel far to get to the next one, lol. They told Kathy she would have to report back on if I really was that short.

I have decided they don’t pay attention to Facebook very much. I had posted the pictures below just a couple of weeks ago of me with a few guys from the gym. We all wore the same shirt that night, and Derrick (one of the trainers) just had to take a picture because we all matched. I’m sure they will be excited to know they made the blog as a “fashion statement”!

After we finished the call, I reposted these and tagged the girls! My post said “if I’m tall these guys must be giants”. What’s really funny is they had all liked or commented on it previously…..too funny!

So that was my simple pleasure this week. Finding out that behind the screen, at least, people think I’m tall. Maybe there’s still a chance I will grow up one day. And having fun, making friends, and bonding with ladies from all over even though we haven’t met in person.

Please share your simple or guilty pleasure for this week.

Simple Pleasure Thursday 10/5

We’ve passed mid-week and made to another Simple/Guilty Pleasure Thursday.

How has your week been, so far?

I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off! My mind going in a hundred directions at once. One minute I’m excited for the next Yoga Teacher Training weekend that starts tomorrow, the next I’m terrified. Self-doubt is running rampant at times. Breathe, I can do this! Enough about that, this is about Simple Pleasures.

I could list several today. Maybe I should just tell you about one and save some for another week. If you remember last Friday I told you I was going to have a phone interview with an author, Ingrid, who is working on a book The Anti-Aging Secrets of Yoga. She called Friday night and what was supposed to be a 15-20 minute interview was close to an hour! The interview was great and I enjoyed talking with someone about something I love and am passionate about. By the time we hung up it was like we were old friends!

During our call we started talking about yoga and children. Ingrid is also a yoga instructor, and has a friend, Teresa Power, who has written a book The ABC’s of Yoga for Kids and is also the founder of International Kids’ Yoga Day. I didn’t know there was Kids’ yoga day, did you? You can find Teresa’s books on her website http://www.abcyogaforkids.com and you can get information on Kids’ Yoga Day at  http://www.abcyogaforkids.com/kids-yoga-day. I have thought for some time that kids and yoga are meant for each other. If you are a yoga practitioner; have you ever noticed young children in many yoga poses, without even knowing what they’re doing? Since beginning to practice yoga myself, I have notice it with the grand littles almost every day. They are naturals. To be honest I’m a little envious of their abilities….I believe if we adults had been able to practice yoga as children we would be much better off physically and maybe even mentally now. I know I would be. I plan to start working with my littles on this and may explore it as part of my teaching journey.

So my Simple Pleasure this week is making a new friend! Do you have a simple or guilty pleasure to share? I’d love to hear about it. What do you think about yoga for kids or kids’ yoga day?

Simple Pleasure Thursday 9/28

It’s Thursday and that means It’s time for our next installment of Simple/Guilty Pleasure Thursday.

Do you have a simple or guilty pleasure to share with us this week?

If you’ve read the blog this week, can you guess mine? I’m calling mine a guilty pleasure this week, although it could be both.

Our little weekend trip to the Jersey Shore (simple pleasure) resulted in a trip to White Castle for hamburgers (guilty pleasure). Guilty, because I over do it on them. But I do plan for it too.

Let’s be honest here. That’s probably our main reason for going, to the Jersey Shore, lol!

Growing up in the south we had Krystal’s. They are basically the same kind of burger. The biggest difference between them is White Castle puts ketchup on theirs where Krystal puts mustard. I prefer to eat them straight off the grill with just the onions they are cooked with. Sadly (but probably for the best) neither one is very close to us. White Castle in NJ is roughly a three hour drive versus Krystal at around ten hours (right now the closest one I know of is in Georgia) not doable for a quick trip.

I do enjoy those little burgers. When they are steamed just right, it’s like a little bit of heaven. I think “The Man” likes White Castle better because they have crinkle cut fries! I could careless about the fries, I just go for the burgers. “The Man’s” uncle calls them belly busters, lol. They can be just bit gaseous! Yes, probably TMI….

We usually stop on the way home and get a “crave case” (that’s a box of 30) to bring back with us. This time we did not. That took a bit of will power.

I will just have to savor the moment until the next time.

Can you believe it’s already the end of the month? I have some new specials to share and some current ones that are going away.

First for the new:

A couple of you have expressed an interest in joining me in my Plunder business. From now through the end of September (which is only a couple of days away, how did that happen?) when you sign up as a Plunder Stylist  you will receive 10 extra piece of jewelry in your kit! So instead of the usual 9 you will receive 19 pieces of Plunder jewelry plus your sales tools! To sign up go to my website http://www.punderdesign.com/grandma2glamma and click on Plunder Opportunity.

If you have been on the fence now is a good time to get off! And if nothing else you could have a lot of your holiday shopping done!

And now for the old:

Remember that awesome Rodan+Fields Regimen/Hydration bundle special with the mini regimen?

It ends tonight. That mini-regimen is great for travel and is TSA approved. If you don’t travel, it’s an extra two weeks of product FREE!

If you don’t need a full regimen, but would like to try a product, I will be placing my last bulk order for September tomorrow (Friday) night at 6pm EST.

Message or email at grandma2glamma@gmail.com with your product choice and I will order it for you at PC pricing (that’s 10% off and free shipping) and get it to you!

Not sure what regimen or product is right for you? Take the solutions tool and find out. Be sure to enter your email, so I will know you tried the tool, and I will send you a micro-dermabrasion paste packet, just for trying it out.

Simple Pleasure Thursday 9/21

Good Morning! It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve written a Simple Pleasure Thursday post. Not because I haven’t had any simple pleasures, but life has been busy! Sometimes I just let life and day-to-day events take over. I really do try to organize and manage my time, but I am not always good at that. Sometimes I wish I were better at it, but then there are days that I really like “flying by the seat of my pants” lol! Of course, flying by the seat of my pants is why I am still learning as I go with this blogging business! I am learning how to, not only, write a few posts ahead I have been able to get the scheduler to work, so that is going to be a big help.

This week or I should say the past few weeks my simple pleasure is “The Man”. Now, yes, he drives me absolutely bonkers (especially with his Sams club fetish) most days, but he has been a big help too. So far since school has started he has been home before I need to pick up Miss Quinn from pre school and I am able to leave Lessa and Caterina aka baby Sunshine home with him when I go to pick her up. It is so much easier than having to take a five month old and an almost two-year old to pick up an almost four-year old…..what makes that even better is; I can rarely park the “bus” in front of my house or on our side of the street. We have a “not so nice” neighbor and he feels the need to park vehicles they don’t drive on the street in front of everyone’s house but his own….. And yes, it’s a public street. However, this guy will go out of his way to jockey their cars in front of other folks houses taking up 1 1/2 parking spots (because they cannot parallel park). He even goes so far as to watch for someone to leave and then goes out and moves his car into that space. Now I don’t care that I have to park across the street until I need to take a five month old and an almost two-year across a busy street (ours is a main thoroughfare through the neighborhood) to get in the car and then bring a five month old, almost two and four-year old back across the street to get home. Courtesy goes a long way. So yes, that aggravates me and it is my rant, today…..I am so thankful “The Man” has been home so far and I have not had to do that, yet. It really has been a blessing.

Since we haven’t talked simple or guilty pleasures in a few weeks, what have your simple or guilty pleasures been? With fall being on the horizon mine will like start becoming food related, lol. After all it is almost time for comfort food, sweater and boots weather! Yay!

We are in the last third of September; can you believe it? Yesterday I made my first Rodan+Fields promotion!!! I am so excited! To celebrate I have 5 mini-facials that I would like to share. If you have been curious about R+F and want to try it, message or email me and I will send  you a mini-facial. I want to remind you of the Rodan+Fields specials. The Regimen/Hydration Serum/Travel Size Regimen special is ending on the 28th. If you have been thinking you need that, go ahead and grab it this week. Those travel sized regimens are a good two weeks of product. The full regimens are two or more months worth of product. They are TSA approved size but they are also perfect to keep in your RV or your weekend lake/beach house. Message or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com with any questions or to claim a mini-facial.

Do you receive the blog email? If not you can sign-up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page or on the “pop-up”. Thursday Simple Pleasures 8/31

This has been an incredible week, so far. How so? Stopping each day to list three things that have made me happy that day. It makes you aware.

It can become so easy and commonplace to focus on all the negatives in our lives. Sometimes you may have to look really hard to find the happy, but I bet there is something there, somewhere!

That is my Simple Pleasure for this week. Taking that time to focus on and list my three happy things for the day. Yes some days they may seem like pretty simple little things, but they are ” my” things or “your” things. There is no right or wrong.

How are you doing with listing your happy things? You may think “oh no one cares, no one is watching”. But guess what? They are. How do I know? I have been posting my three things every day on my personal Facebook page. Several of the #saturday7amsocialclub members who were not at the meeting last week (so they weren’t there to know about the challenge) have taken to posting their happy things too; because I posted mine and issued the challenge. One of my childhood friends has just issued a challenge to her friends on Facebook to do the same thing for the next 30 days, because of my challenge. That’s also a Simple Pleasure; knowing that one, seemingly small thing can inspire others. That was my hope/goal when I started this blog: to inspire others in some facet of their journey. I hope I do that on occasion. Sometimes I wonder, but….Maybe I have.

Yes, people do watch. But. What do they see? Do they see happy or do they see you have the “mulligrubs” all the time? I know not everyday is rainbows and unicorns, but I hope you have been able to find those happy moments.

My three happy things for Wednesday were

1. It was a beautiful day

2. I had a phenomenal workout

3. The grand littles are either in bed or home

Have you signed up to receive the blog email? If not you can do so with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page or on the “pop-up”. Fun At The Fair

I awoke this morning to the patter of rain in the window. It was a comforting sound. You know that peaceful patter of rain falling gently. I was thankful that it wasn’t a storm. It has rained like that all day. I thought about the people in Texas who have lost so much, and here I am enjoying the sound of gentle rain drops. Such a difference. There are many relief organizations that you can give to, to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. If so choose, please help in whatever way you can. If you can do nothing more than say a prayer, please do.

Do you attend your state or county fair? As long as I can remember I have always loved going at least once a year to the fair.

This past weekend we took two of the grand littles Noah and Miss Quinn to the fair. It was only in its third day and was their second visit, lol. Their parents took them on opening night when they could ride all they wanted for one price. That certainly didn’t stop them from wanting to go back or having a good time.

Fortunately they can only ride the “kiddie” rides. I am not a fan of some of those rides, so I am quite happy not to need to worry about getting on them. I must admit some of the horror stories you may have heard in the news lately play into that.

Noah and Miss Quinn on the “speedway”.

Riding the teacups. That’s my speed, lol!

Can I just say these were the fastest spinning teacups ever? And they were in the “little kids” rides!

Now we are going to ride the helicopter.

Have I told you I have a fear of heights? How did I get myself into this one?

What was I thinking

Just standing around waiting.

I wore my “choose happy” t-shirt. I bought this for Plunder and last years Plunder anthem, but it was also fitting since “Get Happy” was the WW theme and challenge for this week. Ironically every time I wear it “The Man” is a bear….I think he needs the shirt, lol! I wore my latest embroidered “crop” jeans from White House Black Market. These might just be my new favorite jeans. They are a bit long for crops on me (what’s new) but because of the embroidery they cannot be shortened. That’s ok. At least for me. The military cargo style jacket is also from WHBM and the shoes are leather converse, and let’s not forget my favorite summer “go to” cross body Dooney and Bourke.

The keeper of the tickets

Amanda (my daughter) hamming it up….guess she was trying to show me how a “selfie”is done, lol!

The little bird necklace I am wearing says “I Choose Happy”. It was the Plunder anthem piece from 2016. So simple and so meaningful. The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece too and says “simplify” on that little heart you see. My earrings are old and are Black Hills Silver and Gold. I got them on my first trip to the Black Hills.

Noah and Miss Quinn wanted to play in these giant “rock’em-sock’em” type balls. They allowed them to go by themselves so they could do it without being over run by the big kids. That was a good thing because they could barely lift them up. They had a blast though.

A good time was had by all.

And we finished up with that yummy ice cream I told you about yesterday.

How are doing with finding your three happy things from your day? I hope  you take a moment to share with us.

My three happy things for Monday:

1. Miss Quinn and Lessa did not fight all day.

2. I hit my Fitbit step goal today, for the first time in forever on a week day.

3. I had a pan of dressing/stuffing in the freezer from the last time I made a large batch. I took it out and made it for dinner tonight!
