Simple Pleasure Thursday

It’s that time again: Simple/Guilty Pleasure Thursday. I recently saw a quote that said if you enjoy it, it’s not guilty. What say you?

This week I have a Simple Pleasure. It is grilling season or cooking out in general!

This past Sunday I was able to “fire up” the grill and cook outside, for the first time this year! This is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. If we are lucky our current grill will make it through the summer ūüė≥ or we will be able to find a new one that I like, lol!

This is the grill we currently have:

We have had it for a good six years now and it has been great. But the weather is starting to take its toll on the legs/feet; as in one has almost completely rusted away. I have propped it up with a brick for now….really! Apparently this particular grill is no longer available, so getting the same one will not be possible. I will see if I can buy replacement legs, since otherwise it is fine, and if it’s not cost prohibitive get them. I have a feeling we are going to be searching for a new grill though.

That will start the charcoal vs gas saga with “The Man”….I do not like gas, charcoal just tastes better, but would be willing to compromise (reluctantly) on a hybrid. They have a gas and charcoal side. I will admit that gas would let us cook out a bit longer or start earlier, but you just don’t get the same flavor…since I’m the one that uses it (he rarely touches it) it should be what I like. True?

Do you prefer gas or charcoal? What type of grill do you like, i.e. kettle shape, box, etc? “The Man” has mentioned getting “The Big Green Egg” a time or two or almost every year for a while now.

I personally, just can not wrap my head around spending that much money for a grill. If that isn’t enough it uses “special” charcoal/fuel, an added cost, of course….do any of you have a “green egg” and if so, how long have you had it and is it “worth” the money? Would you buy it again? We would need to at least get the X-Large one. I think the XX-Large would be too much and the Large would be just a bit too small.

What is your simple or guilty pleasure for this week? I can’t wait to hear what you have to say!

A New Month A New Weigh In

The first Saturday of the month. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know what that means. It’s time for weigh in at the weekly meeting of the #satuday7amsocialclub AKA Weight Watchers. This is the second month in a row that I have had a gain of a couple of pounds. I am still well below goal, but I can’t keep this up and stay there for long!

I have to tell you I’m still no sure how much it is the increase in weightlifting how much is what I’m doing food wise. I went into last week pretty sure I was going to be around the same as last month. I had come to terms with that gain (somewhat).

When I weighted myself on Wednesday I was good. Well Wednesday needs to be taken off the calendar. That is the day I want to eat all the things. Sometimes I do ok, sometimes not. Last¬†week was a not. Ok it wasn’t the worst early, but..then I had my session with Jeff. I came home and ate like a mad woman! I tried to eat mainly protein, but, come Thursday morning that scale was not my friend ūüė≥ not that I was surprised. I almost always have a gain the day after an intense workout. Friday’s WI was the same as Thursday. Instead of leaving well enough alone, I had to compound it by going out to eat (something I try to never do before WI) and got shrimp and crab….now seafood is good and low points, so overall it’s good choice. Right? But this is Baltimore, Land of Old Bay! ¬†Can we say sodium? Yeah, that wasn’t very well thought out! Add another two pounds on to what it was that morning, when it could have been down. Yep, a whole FOUR pounds up from May….still well below goal and free for the month, but not good, but I did do it to myself….

Last weeks meeting was not very well attended. Very unusual for the first of the month, for sure!

I don’t know if it was because it was the week following the holiday and people were out-of-town or if they were in the same boat I was and stayed home.

“The Man” had jokingly said something about¬†going away for the weekend, maybe I should have pushed for it ūüė≥ it might have saved me from myself….or not, but I could have put off weighing for a week, lol!

I left that disaster of a weigh in and headed off to the gym, Jeff and “arm day”! Now Jeff is still insisting a big factor in this gaining is me building muscle and getting stronger. He always reminds me that “he told me this would happen”. I guess that’s an “I told you so”…. He pointed out the work we were doing, the amount of weight I was lifting and working with that day and how much my should stability had improved. I had to agree with that. My upper body has always been my weak spot, but after he said something I was able to see and realize how much better it is. Maybe he is half right?

I am going to try to ride this out, but I must say it is hard!!!!

I have to keep saying this to myself, everyday!¬†For those on their own journey, how are you doing? Do you have your own mantra? What keeps you going when the going gets tough? Now that it’s “almost” summer, do you find it easier or harder to stay on a plan? Let me know what you think!

Remember June is my birthday month! Everyone that comments on the blog will be entered in a weekly drawing for a beautiful piece of Plunder Jewelry and on my actual birthday, one lucky person will win the June Plunder Posse! Seen here!

If you want to sign up to receive the Plunder Posse each month you can do so here. The Plunder Posse is a subscription plan, much like Ipsy, Graze, etc. For $25 each month (which includes tax and shipping) you will receive 1-3 pieces of beautiful plunder jewelry. Your Posse will bill and ship on the same day each month, and you can cancel anytime or stop and start as often as you’d like if there’s a month you just don’t want it. This is a perfect time to sign up because you will be able to see it before time to ship and can decide if you want that month or not. If you have any questions or need help placing your order or have questions about joining the plunder business, email me at: grandma2glamma@gmail.com

The winner of last weeks Plunder piece just for commenting is: Sandy! I will be putting Sandy’s Plunder in the mail by weeks end!

Have you¬†signed up for the blog email, yet? If not you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I am off now with Miss Quinn. We are heading out to my little Noah’s end of the year picnic! This is last full week of school. He will only go two half days next week. Where has the time gone?

The Liebster Award: I Have Been Nominated

I’ve been nominated for my first-ever blogger recognition award, The Liebster Award. Since I had never really heard of it I had to check it out. Here is what I found:

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award 2017 is an award that exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

So the cliff notes version is: Fellow bloggers nominate each other in an effort to introduce folks to new blogs and the people behind those blogs.

The Liebster Award: I've Been Nominated!

I would like to thank the wonderful Amy from @MuscleMatters for nominating me! Amy runs a blog about fitness, weight loss, muscle gain, and motivation. On more than one occasion, I’ve come across a blog post of hers that really resonated with me and spoke to my personal issues, often mirroring exactly what I was on my mind that day. Does she read my mind, lol?  Thank you, so much, Amy I am honored!

Amy gave me a list of 5 questions to answer. So, in the spirit of getting to know each other better, here goes . . .

  1. What is your next goal for your blog?  To grow my subscriber list and have more interaction and engagement.
  2. What is your favorite social media platform to promote your blog, and why? ¬†¬†That’s a tough one! Facebook is the easiest, but I get more interaction from Instagram and Twitter and I like interacting with my readers.
  3. What would you consider your biggest ‚Äúwin‚ÄĚ in terms of your blog since you began? ¬†¬†Meeting, interacting, and gaining support from other bloggers. There is such a community of support for new bloggers even though we all do the same thing.
  4. What is your biggest pet peeve?¬†Hmmm? In general or in terms of blogging, lol? In general, it’s people that just can not be on time! That completely drives me bonkers….In blogging, I’m not sure.
  5. What is your all-time favorite movie, and why?¬†This is easy, Fried Green Tomatoes! I just loved this movie from the first time I saw it! Ironically, I have never sat and saw it completely from beginning to end at one time….Why? It’s a toss up between the characters played by Jessica Tandy-Ninny Threadgoode and Kathy Bates-Evelyn Couch. Kathy’s character Evelyn, has always resonated with me, even in my “younger” days. She was in mid-life trying to “find herself”. I especially love the scene in grocery store parking lot where “Evelyn”¬†is trying to park and those young girls zip in and “steal the parking space”. They look at her and say “Face it lady, we’re younger and faster”. She sits for a moment then ¬†yells “Towanda”!!!! as she gleefully starts ramming their car then looks at them and says “Face it, girls, I’m older and I have more insurance” and drives off.

The best part of this award is I get to nominate 5 more bloggers! So without further ado, the nominees are:

Lisa from Lisadesignslife.com

Maggie from thethriftshopfashionistablog.wordpress.com

Robin from weightlosspro.co

Farah from farahfostermanning.com

Lori from Choosing Wisdom.org
Head on over to their blogs and check them out!

The Rules for Liebster Award Nominees

  1. On your blog, thank the blogger who nominated you for this award.

  2. Link back to the blogger that awarded you.

  3. Upload the award to your blog.  This can be done by writing a post about the award, and uploading the award image in your sidebar.

  4. Answer the questions you have been asked by your nominator in a blog post so we can get to know you better.

  5. Nominate at least 5 blogs with less than 200 followers that you believe deserve to receive this award.

  6. Notify the owners of the blogs that you’ve nominated them so they can accept their award.  Bloggers can be nominated more than once, giving their readers more chances to learn more about them.

Okay, fellow bloggers, it’s time to get to know you better.  Here are my questions for you:

  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. Give a tip for other bloggers or potential blog starters:
  3. When you have a writer’s block what do you do to work it out?
  4. Where is your favorite place to travel to?
  5. What is the best memory that you have while traveling?
  6. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

I can’t wait to read your answers!

Thank you again, Amy for this awesome nomination!

Highlights From May

May was¬†a busy, strange month, lol! The weather couldn’t decided if wanted to be¬†spring or winter. It¬†actually rained here for¬†22 out of 31 days! We had the FlowerMart and Preakness here. It was Mother’s Day. ¬†I made some hosting changes with the blog (I thought that was going to “do me in”). ¬†Talk about “teaching an old dog new tricks”…..I did my first ever review for Covered Perfectly, it has been published on their blog and I will doing an interview for them soon. The Style Club had the accessory challenge. I didn’t participate in all of them, and inadvertently combined a few, but I did manage to participate. I made it through the first month of training with Jeff twice a week (and he didn’t kill me, yet). I attended a powerlifting meet and met another lady powerlifter in the masters division. I will be telling you more about her soon. And last, but not least, I participated in my first Fierce 50 Follow Friday as part of The Fierce 50 Revolution, on Instagram. It was just busy, busy, busy.

If you missed my review of the Fun and Flirty Fit and Flare for Covered Perfectly you can read all about it here.

If you shop with Covered Perfectly and use the code GG20 you can take 20% off on up to two items. The best deal is always the buy 2 get the 3rd item free.
This was the May schedule for the Style Club; I actively participated in 1, 2, 5, and 7 but I actually had some element of all but 6 in almost all of my looks, so I recycled a few pictures, lol!

This was from our day at the FlowerMart. The focus for this challenge was the necklace. It wasn’t until I was ready to post it I realized I had combined it with the Hat and Purse challenge! The necklace is a Plunder piece that has been retired.

Next was the scarf challenge, and what a challenge it was for me! I can do scarfs in the winter, but spring/summer has me baffled. Even after the challenge. This scarf came from JJill and I was got on clearance earlier in the year.

I decided to use the first challenge pictures and make the bag the focus for the bag challenge, since it was new and I got because of the color and it fitting in with the greenery color of the year. I ordered from HSN.

But for the hat challenge! Yes, the first group encompassed a hat and would have worked just fine, but I went out and got myself a new hat! I spent and insane amount of money for a Preakness Hat (ok not as insane as it could have been, but more than I have ever spent on a hat)! This fabulous¬†hat came from Christine A. Moore. She had a trunk show at our local HatsInTheBelfry store for Preakness and I just had to go….ok I just mentioned it being there “The Man” talked me into going. So that makes it his fault I bought a new hat, right?

This was my sunglasses challenge look. I just had to get these sunnies because they were different from my norm and that makes them fun! And the group insisted sunglasses are meant to be fun!

What do you think of the May challenge? Have you had a chance to check out the 40plusstyleclub? Have you registered for the waiting list? I know we just had a flurry of new members come on board for June. I hope to see you there.

The Fierce 50 Revolution is starting to take off and is gaining momentum. I enjoyed the Friday Follow and learning more about some of my new Fierce Sisters. You can read about them here. Together we are aiming to change the perception of women in mid-age and beyond! If you haven’t already you can go the Facebook page The Fierce 50 Revolution and join us. Let your voice be heard!

I told you yesterday, June is my birthday month and I’m going to be giving you all presents! Aren’t you excited? Every Friday in June I will be giving away¬†a piece of beautiful Plunder Jewelry. All you have to do to is comment on the blog posts be entered in a drawing. I will draw a name from all the comments during the week each¬†Friday night. On my actual birthday (I’m not going to tell you when that is, yet) I am going to give away a June Posse, pictured here. Who wants to guess when it is? Put your guess in the comments.

As you can there are three pieces of jewelry in the June Posse! Everyone who has commented up to that point will be entered in the drawing, even if you have already won.

If you have any questions or need help placing your order or have questions about joining the plunder business, email me at: grandma2glamma@gmail.com

Have you¬†signed up for the blog email, yet? If not you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, and ¬†you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. You can also follow my social media sites through the pop up or by clicking the following links:Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin. If you would like to share the blog on your Facebook or Twitter, you can just click the share buttons at the bottom of the post. Your likes, comments, and shares are what helps get the blog out to more folks, and I appreciate it more than you know. Remember you can also “Pin” the blog or just the photos to¬†Pinterest now. So feel free to pin away!

Don’t forget to leave a comment so that you can be entered in the drawing for this week. Since today is Friday, I will be drawing this weeks winner later tonight. Of course your comments also help more people to see the blog too.

Have a great weekend!

Until the next time

Thursday Guilty/Simple Pleasures

I bet we can all find a Simple Pleasure

Happy first day of June! Can you believe we are almost at the halfway point of the year? Is this crazy or what? It’s almost officially summer, although I don’t think Mother Nature has quite gotten that message, at least not here, lol! Has the weather evened out in your neck of the woods or are still playing the guessing game?

After posting my Guilty/Simple Pleasures blog, a couple of weeks ago, you can read it here if you missed it, I have been thinking that Thursday might be a great day to start sharing our Simple or Guilty Pleasures. I bet we all have some or can find a simple pleasure from the previous week, or just in general, to share.

This is my most recent:

The hand of a grand little in mine.

Isn’t this just the sweetest?
Last week Miss Alessandra came to spend the day. Now you may ask “what’s new about that?” For those who don’t know I am a SAHGMa. I left my job in healthcare almost 6 years ago to stay home with my little Noah, and the babies have just kept coming, lol!

Since Miss Caterina came along in April “Lessa” has been home with mommy. Last week her mommy had some things to do and ask if Lessa could come over for the morning. Well, of course she could.

She was in rare form of course.

She started out extra whiny, lol, then decided she wanted her shoes off, then the socks, then the shirt, and finally her pants….at least she didn’t try for the diaper, lol! The next thing you know, I looked around and she has Miss Quinn’s shoes on; two different ones just as proud as punch with herself! Now at 19 months old you know that didn’t last too long before she was on to the next thing…after a while she decided she needed to put on Miss Quinn’s red shoe…yes, shoe, just one, on the wrong foot…and clomped around for ever with it. Her one red shoe and a diaper; what a picture, lol!

After a bit she wanted to climb up and sit on the couch, next to me, with an iPad. Once she got herself up and comfortable she reached over and put her hand in mine and just sat there. And there we sat, the house a mess, an almost naked baby with one red shoe on the wrong foot, an iPad (that she forgot for a few moments), and Miss Quinn and the cat on the other side. Now Miss Quinn has always had to sit holding hands and she will worm her hand in yours until it just suits her, but, this hand holding is not a “Lessa thing”, it’s a “Quinn thing”, so it was extra sweet. For a while we just there, both of them with their hands in mine. Since it there was no one else home I couldn’t get a picture of that….

This is my Simple Pleasure for this week. What is yours? Be sure to tell me about it in the comments!

June is also my birthday month! To celebrate I will be doing a few giveaways on the blog. Each week, at the end of the day on Friday, I will have a drawing for a piece of Plunder jewelry. I will announce the winner here on the blog, in the next blog post and will notify you by email. To be entered all you need to is comment on the blog, starting with todays. Everyone who leaves a comment during the week will be entered!

If you want to order from Plunder the party link to order for June is still Janete3. On my birthday, and I’m not going to tell you in advance when that is, hahaha, I will have an extra drawing for the June Posse! This month it is 3 pieces of beautiful plunder jewelry!!! That’s right one person will win the entire set! Remember all you need to do is comment on the blog to be entered in the drawing! Easy Peasy! Right?

If you haven’t already signed up for the blog email, you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. Remember you can also “Pin” the blog or just the photos to Pinterest now. So feel free to pin away!

Don’t forget to comment to be entered in the drawings, but I really do want to hear about your Simple Pleasures too!!!

Until the next time

Fierce 50 Follow Friday

Let your voice be heard now

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in my first #fierce50followfriday on Instagram.

I have briefly mentioned The Fierce 50 Revolution to you before. Earlier this year a group of 50+ bloggers came together to form The Fierce 50 Campaign; to support each other and raise awareness to those of us in Mid-life. From that The Fierce 50 Revolution was born. The purpose is to raise our voice, awareness, and shift the perception of women over 50! Just because we may be of a “certain age” we are not to be ignored! We are a force to be reckoned with!

These ladies are four of my new “Fierce Sisters”!

You should head over to follow and support these Fierce Women on IG. Their handles along with their websites are below.

I asked each of them the following question:

How do you hope/want to inspire others (those in mid-life and those who haven’t even thought about it yet)?

Here are their answers!

Sheila @fattofabover50 “lost her sparkle” during the years of raising a family and building her business (who else can relate to that?). She is reinventing and reclaiming her life!¬†You can find her blog¬†here.

Lori @gerontologistloricampbell said that “it’s her hearts desire to inspire and motivate people of all ages, but primarily millennials¬†to”: practice prevention, value health and live their values, establish healthy lifestyle/mindset practices, embrace their aging journey, own it. you can also find Lori here.

Rosie @themidlifeaesthetic feels that “using your own life as an example is the best way to give women hope”. “When she shares her own personal journey of loss, she can see them perk up”. A phrase she loves is “we are all walking each other home”. She said “that is how I feel about other mid-life women”! You can find Rosie’s blog¬†here.

Robin @weight_loss_pro_robin said she “hopes to inspire others that they CAN do anything they want” she is on a quest to lose 150 lbs and is half way there! It hasn’t been easy, but she isn’t giving up! Robin’s blog can be found¬†here.

How do YOU hope/want to inspire others? Now or when you get to a “certain age”? Comment and let me know!

Have you already joined The Fierce 50 Revolution? If not; all you need to do is go to the Facebook page: The Fierce 50 Revolution¬†and click join! It doesn’t cost a thing and you don’t even need to be 50+, or a blogger. You¬†younger ladies¬†are welcome to join The Revolution too. After all you, will be joining us one day! Let your voice be heard, now!

We truly are better and stronger together!

If you haven’t already signed up for the blog email, you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, you will just be the first to know when there is a new post.
