Black Friday Shopping

Woo Hoo! It’s Friday! Not just any Friday this week but the Friday after thanksgiving! That makes it Black Friday! A day for shopping! The “official” kickoff to the holiday shopping season! Oh and let’s not forget stuffing ourselves with those yummy leftovers….

Are you a Black Friday shopper? Are you Thanksgiving night shopper? Did you clear away your Thanksgiving day feast and hit the stores last night? No judgment, just wondering.

I hope you had a great day with family and friends. We had a quiet relaxing day of sorts. That’s because we aren’t having our “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner until Sunday. That means I’ll be going crazy the rest of the weekend, lol!

I have never been much of a Black Friday shopper. Watching the news and seeing people go crazy and attacking others over saving a couple of dollars was enough to keep me home! I said long ago there was nothing out there worth risking your life over! That’s not to say I have never been out and about, and the few times I have stood in line for something it was a good experience. I know some of the stories are the extreme and not the norm, but boy are they scary!

“The Man” took off work one year just so we could go shopping on Black Friday! I don’t think he believed how crazy it was out there, until we got to the toy store and the line was wrapped three times around the park lot at midnight-ish! After standing there for what seemed like forever, he gave up, lol!!! We wandered through a few more stores that were open and came home and went to bed. Later we got up to get to Barnes and Noble before they opened. That year they offered a special edition nook e-reader for $79 . That was my present to me. I had made the jump to e-readers before that with the nook color, but after some time realized a regular reader would be better for reading while traveling in the car. I have since switched to the nook glow light…..speaking of which a new edition the nook glow 3 is being released today and is only $99! If you are an e-reader person that might be for you! That year was “The Mans” first and last foray into Black Friday shopping! He is now okay with going to work, lol!

I’m perfectly ok staying home and shopping online! I know there are some crazy good deals out there, my inbox has been flooded with them, and I bet your is too! Here is one of my favorites.

I just got off the phone with “The Man” a few minutes ago and he said “I’m surprised you don’t want to go to the “black store”” as ¬†he calls it. Well, now the you mentioned it, we could go……lol! I probably will not. I don’t “need” or want anything so why go?

Last night going out wasn’t an option for me. The only vehicle I could have taken was “the bus”, it can be a challenge to park on a regular shopping day, there was no way I was going to try and park and maneuver that thing around parking lots full of crazy shoppers ūüėāūüėā

To help you out with your shopping I have a few deals of my own to share with you.

PLUNDER DESIGN: Plunder will have a lot of Black Friday specials throughout the day. The savings are really great but there is a catch. The specials will be released at different times throughout the day and no one knows when they will release. What I do know it that nothing will be released today before 9am EST! Here is a sneak peek at what I know will be coming out today. There could possibly be more throughout the weekend and Monday.

I will be posting to the Facebook page when they are released. Just go to http://plunderdesign.com/grandma2glamma, hit the shop button and pick a party that has my name in it. These items will be found under the Specials tab.

Below are a few items that were released yesterday and as of right now are still available.

I just love this one for the tweens/teens. What a great stocking stuffer!

In addition to such great specials. If your order totals $30 or more (excluding tax and shipping) you can choose to add one of the items below for every $30 you spend. You would pay $10 for the Tony necklace and $5 for the Lilo earrings. This is while supplies last (of course). These have changed a couple of times this month. So don’t be surprised if you go to check out and your offer is different.

Legging Army: There is a site wide 10% discount. That will apply all weekend. Who doesn’t ¬†love or need leggings?

Rodan+Fields: You can’t get much better than this deal. Today only, make a purchase as a Preferred Customer (PC) and you pay what I pay!!! That means any product OR Any Business Kit if you decide to become a consultant. Just go to http://jearlingbencivenni.myrandf.comTo become a PC just scroll down to the Subscribe and Save option. If you are interested in the business then message me and we will hop on the phone and chat.

Happy Shopping!

Fashion Friday-A Fashion Question For You

It’s Friday! Happy Friday….Friday the 13th!! Oh boy, and in October…

Scary? Good Luck? Just another day? Are you superstitious?

I have a friend who is so superstitious he takes off work and stays in the house every Friday the 13th. Can you believe we are almost half way through October? Halloween is just around the corner.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been playing around in Targets’ Halloween section with the animal heads when we go, lol! The last time we were there I just had to try on another one. It went with my outfit after all, lol! I showed you the first one here, “The Man” all but dared me that day. I did this one all on my own.

Wasn’t it just puurrrrr-fect?

Do you dress up and “get into” Halloween? We have been dressing up with the littles as a family, with a theme the past few years. I will share that with you later this month. I’m not quite sure what we are doing this year. Noah and Miss Quinn are starting to come up with their own ideas for dressing up and they don’t usually sync up with each other never mind getting everyone in on it….

This morning I was woke up out of a good sleep, by a phone call, from “The Man”, slightly before 5am (no wonder I’m dragging)…now for starters a call when he is at work and I’m in bed, scares the bejesus out of me. I answered the phone to hear “your coffee’s on the table”. What? “With donuts”. Huh? I’m thinking to myself, why are you stopping home with coffee and donuts? You’re route isn’t near here on Friday. I didn’t voice this as my brain was still trying to process this and my heart was slowing down to normal again….all the while he was still talking away. The man of few words, cannot be quiet some times. He went on to explain that he told me was going to be home early on friday for the the next few weeks, until the beginning of November, due to some rerouting and a new route taking effect. I remember he said something about being home early. I wasn’t expecting it to be before 5am….but he did bring me coffee. That’s something, right? Oh, and donuts. I didn’t need the donuts…but did that stop me? Bahahaha!!! No.

Are you ready for the weekend? Do you have plans?

I hope my weekend is pretty uneventful. I’m meeting my Rodan+Fields friend, Kathy, for dinner tonight and I have my usual Saturday activities on the agenda; the #saturday7amsocialclub¬†meeting and my session with Jeff, but that’s all. After last weeks full weekend with YTT and next week being the races (YIKES) staying in this weekend sounds pretty good. It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work and after birthday parties two Sunday’s in a row, I know he is looking forward to not going anywhere Sunday. He thinks he’s going to stop working Saturdays by the end of the year…..whatever will I do? I’m not sure this will work, for me, lol….

I will do a short run Sunday morning and then start the “taper” process, in hopes to be ready for races next week. According to the scale I have already started the carb-loading process (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it)….what’s bad about that is because of YTT last week I haven’t weighed in for October yet….I will have to do that tomorrow at the meeting (unless I don’t go). That’s not a good option since I missed last week and will miss next week due to the races. So I will go, weigh in, and live with my choices. I will still be under goal, I just don’t like “seeing” that number go up even when I know why. Add to that me going out to eat tonight. I did have a bit of a plan for that, but then pumpkin spice donuts entered the house this morning and I didn’t “just say no”…..it’s life. You live it and move on.

Okay. It is Fashion Friday, after all, so let’s have a little fashion talk.

This morning I was scrolling through Facebook and one of the members of the 40+style club posted a question/dilemma.

Below is her post:

“Can we discuss dressing to be situationally appropriate? I couldn’t find any threads already started.

I live in an area that is very casual and pulling myself together with a statement necklace is enough to make me feel conspicuous. This is ok but as I start figuring out the clothing that really makes my heart happy I’m afraid I will stand out like a clown. When I travel outside of my locale I’m much more apt to be authentic.

Case and point: I have a mtg this morning at a coffee shop. I really want to wear my new lace dress with a chambray short jacket and lt grey sneakers. I won’t wear it because it would be too over the top. I’ll probably wear a lace blouse instead w jeans.

Just wondering if you girls think about this and how many of you go with your heart.‚̧ԳŹ

My first thought was, how sad for her. And how awful to possibly need two different wardrobes. Then it brought to mind an encounter I had a few weeks ago. The area I live in is a very “blue collar”, casual type area and getting more casual with some of the younger crowd that is moving in.

I showed you the outfit in the picture below last month and I consider this to be a rather casual outfit. It can be elevated, but it would still be casual. Overall I consider my style casual, classic, occasionally romantic and a little boho. I seem to go through phases. During the week with the littles I tend to dress more casually than I do on the weekends, but I still like to look nice.

I wore this exact outfit a couple of weeks ago with the sleeveless vest and statement necklace below. The necklace is from the Plunder Fall Line and is called Dallas. It had just arrived a day or so before and I think is perfect with this top. Actually I just love it period! It’s eclectic, quirky, fun, and definitely makes a statement.

I had to take Noah to the bus, then run a few errands before heading out to pick Miss Quinn up from school. When I walked Noah to the bus stop, one of the young mothers commented that I looked nice and sure was dressed up. Really? Dressed up? I think this is pretty casual, even with the addition of the vest and necklace. What do you think? Dressed up or casual?

Does wearing something other than sweatpants with “bootylicious” ¬†written across the rear end or pajama pants out and about constitute being “dressed up” these days? I sure hope not! There are still plenty of ladies in our neighborhood who wouldn’t dream of going out the door if every hair wasn’t in place and fresh lipstick applied. Thank goodness for them!

I admit, I don’t wear makeup every day; I never have, but I do try to dress nice and do my hair.¬†I don’t know about you, but I feel better when, as the saying goes, “I get up, dress up, and show up”. I definitely feel different on days that I know I’m not going anywhere and may not put much effort or thought into how I dress. And yes, I have those days where I will hang in the house in sweats and such. Those are usually house cleaning days and I have never bought into dressing up to scrub the floor. I would change before going out though.

What would your advice be to the member who posted this?

I say: Wear what you want/like. Be you/do you, let them wonder why you are “dressed up” or “over the top”. Maybe others want to dress as you¬†do yet have the same feelings. Maybe you will inspire them to be who they want to be.

I would love to hear your opinion.

Fashion Friday and Being A Little Silly

Happy Friday! Or as Noah has been saying lately Fri-Yay….where did a six-year-old get that from, lol!

Do you have plans for the weekend, yet?

It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work so you know that usually means things will pretty much be low-key around here. Not like last weekend when I got a wild hair and called and made motel reservations in New Jersey.

Our granddaughter, Miss Mia, is having her first birthday party Sunday and I’m sure there will be a trip to that “big box store” but this week I don’t think it’s avoidable….

I can’t believe we have made it through a full week of fall and it still feels like summer. The heat index was almost 100 a couple of days ago! This won’t last much longer, I’m sure. It seems our weather is trying to make a turn toward more seasonal temps this weekend; which is fine. It’s time for everything pumpkin spice! Lol! I have been seeing it everywhere for the past few weeks. Last week “The Man” came home from work and brought me a surprise:

Yes, you are seeing that right, lol. Pumpkin flavored lip balm! He was quite pleased with himself. Now I love pumpkin spice and will actually have it off and on year round (why wait for a particular season for something you like) but I had no desire to have this. It’s the thought that counts, though, right?

This isn’t the usual Fashion Friday post (because there isn’t much in the way of fashion, lol) and last Friday was so crazy I totally missed it (that craziness is what prompted my escape to the shore). If you remember I told you about our trip to the Baltimore Harbor weekend before last and my inability to find anything I liked to wear. I had a few better days during the week but didn’t try to put anything together to share with you.

The photo below was on our way home from our outing at the harbor. This is what I put together and finally deemed acceptable to go out of the house in.

Ok, the panda head was not part of my outfit, hahaha! We had to stop at Target on the way home and “The Man” kind of dared me to try on the panda head in the Halloween section, so he could take a picture. His words were “you can put that on your blog” I don’t think he really thought I would share it (he should know better by now)! Silly man. Where has he been for the past 37 years? Since I didn’t like my hair, that day, any better than the clothes I was putting together, the panda head may have been an improvement. Hey it matches!

You have seen elements of the rest of this outfit before. These embroidered crop jeans from White House Black Market are my new favorite jeans. I have practically been living in them. The white tank is the Simple Tank from Covered Perfectly, and the sleeveless vest is new, from Chico’s outlet. I bought it during my shopping trip to the outlets in Lancaster, PA last month. The jewelry is all retired Plunder pieces.

Remember as a¬†Grandma to Glamma blog reader you get 20% OFF on up to two items¬†when you shop at Covered Perfectly!¬†Use the discount code GG20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly.¬†There are several styles to choose from, and the discount will apply on¬†up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the ‚ÄúBuy 2 get your 3rd¬†FREE‚ÄĚ special. This special applies to any combination of items storewide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied¬†automatically. Only one of the discounts will work.¬†Start shopping!

Yesterday I told you about the special Plunder sign up incentive. This is really a great deal, if you are thinking of starting your own business, looking for a hobby, want to make new friends, or maybe want to get a head start on your holiday shopping.

You will receive a total of 19 pieces of jewelry with your kit instead of the usual 9 pieces. And with Plunder there is no sales requirement or quota to meet. Email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com if you need more information. Many of our most successful Plunder stylists signed up for the kit because it was such a great deal (they called themselves “kitnappers”). They never had any thoughts of working this as business, but once they started wearing their jewelry their friends wanted it and things just took off!

Remember if you place a Plunder order through the end of September for $75 or more (excluding tax and shipping) you will receive an extra piece of vintage Plunder from me!

What I haven’t told you much about is the “Bridging the Gap” campaign I am participating in with the Fierce 50 group! If you haven’t joined the group yet and would like to be part of changing the perception of midlife and beyond, click on the link and join us!

The “Bridging the Gap” campaign is a collaboration of Midlife bloggers teaming up with Millennial bloggers to “Bridge the Gap” between the different generations. We are truly “Stronger Together”! I have been partnered with Lauren from the blog¬†Bohemianbythebay. I haven’t had a chance to “meet” her yet, except through email. I hope to be able to Skype or FaceTime with her soon. You can also find her on instagram¬†here. Go on over and check her out!

I also have a phone interview tonight with Ingrid of the blog¬†Fit-Twist Health. She is writing a book, The Anti-Aging Secrets of Yoga.¬†I am looking forward to speaking with her and sharing my love and experience with yoga. I enjoy sharing my love of yoga and truly believe it is a practice that anyone can do. Even with all my other “activities” yoga is my first love!

Fun At The Fair

I awoke this morning to the patter of rain in the window. It was a comforting sound. You know that peaceful patter of rain falling gently. I was thankful that it wasn’t a storm. It has rained like that all day. I thought about the people in Texas who have lost so much, and here I am enjoying the sound of gentle rain drops. Such a difference. There are many relief organizations that you can give to, to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. If so choose, please help in whatever way you can. If you can do nothing more than say a prayer, please do.

Do you attend your state or county fair? As long as I can remember I have always loved going at least once a year to the fair.

This past weekend we took two of the grand littles Noah and Miss Quinn to the fair. It was only in its third day and was their second visit, lol. Their parents took them on opening night when they could ride all they wanted for one price. That certainly didn’t stop them from wanting to go back or having a good time.

Fortunately they can only ride the “kiddie” rides. I am not a fan of some of those rides, so I am quite happy not to need to worry about getting on them. I must admit some of the horror stories you may have heard in the news lately play into that.

Noah and Miss Quinn on the “speedway”.

Riding the teacups. That’s my speed, lol!

Can I just say these were the fastest spinning teacups ever? And they were in the “little kids” rides!

Now we are going to ride the helicopter.

Have I told you I have a fear of heights? How did I get myself into this one?

What was I thinking

Just standing around waiting.

I wore my “choose happy” t-shirt. I bought this for Plunder and last years Plunder anthem, but it was also fitting since “Get Happy” was the WW theme and challenge for this week. Ironically every time I wear it “The Man” is a bear….I think he needs the shirt, lol! I wore my latest embroidered “crop” jeans from White House Black Market. These might just be my new favorite jeans. They are a bit long for crops on me (what’s new) but because of the embroidery they cannot be shortened. That’s ok. At least for me. The military cargo style jacket is also from WHBM and the shoes are leather converse, and let’s not forget my favorite summer “go to” cross body Dooney and Bourke.

The keeper of the tickets

Amanda (my daughter) hamming it up….guess she was trying to show me how a “selfie”is done, lol!

The little bird necklace I am wearing says “I Choose Happy”. It was the Plunder anthem piece from 2016. So simple and so meaningful. The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece too and says “simplify” on that little heart you see. My earrings are old and are Black Hills Silver and Gold. I got them on my first trip to the Black Hills.

Noah and Miss Quinn wanted to play in these giant “rock’em-sock’em” type balls. They allowed them to go by themselves so they could do it without being over run by the big kids. That was a good thing because they could barely lift them up. They had a blast though.

Noah in the ball
Miss Quinn in the ball

A good time was had by all.

And we finished up with that yummy ice cream I told you about yesterday.

How are doing with finding your three happy things from your day? I hope  you take a moment to share with us.

My three happy things for Monday:

1. Miss Quinn and Lessa did not fight all day.

2. I hit my Fitbit step goal today, for the first time in forever on a week day.

3. I had a pan of dressing/stuffing in the freezer from the last time I made a large batch. I took it out and made it for dinner tonight!

Print/Pattern Mixing

Boy this has been one of those weeks and it’s only Tuesday! I guess it’s a continuation from last week, which was crazy. Not only was it a full moon then; and the littles were off the charts, they are on their way to repeating it! Next week is the lunar eclipse; does that affect moods and such like the full moon. If so that explains a lot.

Maybe I should ask my long time friend Robert; astronomer extraordinaire. Robert is a childhood friend (elementary school age) who has been interested in space and astronomy for as long as I can remember. He does some fascinating work on the subject (much over my head, but I enjoy reading about it).

Today I am going to share another one of the Style Club challenges from June: print/pattern mixing. Some people sure do seem to have a talent for it. Do ¬†you? I’m not very confident with it, but I decided to give it a whirl. Since it was a summer style challenge, I went with a very casual, pretty much what I try to make a daily look for me; hanging out with the littles. I feel like I can run if I need to. I am not too dressed up (or even dressed up for that matter), but not scruffy either. I spent many days being scruffy when I was heavier. Today could almost be described as that, as I chose not to wear make up or “do” my hair, and am wearing just comfortable joggers and a tee….I am a firm believer in letting your self go without makeup or styling products on occasion. Let your hair and skin breathe.

I don’t think it was horrible and it did receive good reviews, not only in the group but on Instagram. Someone pointed out, in the group, that everything I wear is neatly pressed…well duh, lol. Do people not iron anymore? I admit I have things I don’t but if it needs it, it gets it!

Here is a collage of what I came up with.

The top is new this year from Old Navy. It was the color that drew me to it. My daughter calls this my “signature color” I am starting to agree with her. Heck, many years ago I painted my living room this color. As you can see that has been changed, but I would do it again…..the shorts are from Old Navy too, from last summer.

Here is a close up of the patterns.

Here is the entire ensemble.

The sandals have been my favorite for this summer; Vince Camutos, from HSN. I really do love them, but have to admit they are not the best shoes if you are going to be walking or standing all day, as they do not have much support. The sun glasses (which look huge on me) are one of the pairs I purchased after my ocean trip and that accident with my one pair….They are just fun, and different and work for me. The necklace is a retired Plunder piece but the colors worked well with this outfit and the design worked back to the pattern in the top. The bracelets are Plunder also. These are called the “bling” bracelets, they are magnetic and so easy to put on. They are perfect for those with dexterity problems. The black one is called Ezra and the peachy one is called Kayson. These are fast becoming some of my favorites. They are available along with several others in this style. To order yours, go to:¬†http://www.plunderdesign.com/grandma2glamma and select any party with my name it.

Let us know what you think of patter and print mixing. Do you do it or is it out of your comfort zone?

Styling An All White Outfit

TGIF! It’s the weekend! Do you have any plans? As of right now we have none! It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work, so it will most likely be a low-key weekend. We will actually be “home alone” all weekend, there’s no telling what kind of trouble we can get into! Next weekend he wants to take the grand littles to the outlets in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for back to school shopping. That should be quite an adventure! Remember our trip to Dutch Wonderland last month in Lancaster? Miss Quinn has been saying she wants to go back. Guess what we will ride right past in route to the outlets? Yep…. They are on the same street. Who thinks that will be a fun shopping trip? Wish me luck, lol!

I’m finally getting my Style Club challenges together! Better late than never, right? Lol! I showed you one of the looks I pulled together, from the challenge, last week. I’m not going in order since I didn’t participate in all of the challenges in June.

I didn’t participate at all during July! July was all about color and with the younger littles coming back, I found it to be to be too much! The great thing is you can participate as much or as little as you want! I may go back and work through some of it on my own.

Many of the ladies in the group have had their colors done. They find out if they are cool or warm, summer, fall, winter, or spring. What colors/shades/tones are better with their coloring. It sounds interesting and scary! I haven’t and would likely find I should throw out everything I like, lol!¬†Have you ever had yours done? If so, what did you think? Would you recommend it?

The second challenge for June was to style an all white outfit! I’ve told you before I’m the person who shouldn’t wear white on any day that ends in “Y”, lol, but I do like the nice, fresh, crisp look of white, and I do wear it.

The exercise was to start with an all white outfit and add a colorful kimono, then add a belt for further interest.¬†I still haven’t made the leap to a kimono, yet, but I had just recently bought the Black and Gray Cascading Vest from Covered Perfectly¬†which was, well, perfect. Another piece I hemmed and hawed about. One day I may learn. Everything I have ever purchased from Covered Perfectly has been great! I was concerned it would be too long for me.¬†I ordered it to use as a¬†coverup when we went to the ocean in June, you can read about that here¬†if you haven’t already. It’s very light weight and thin and I felt it would be a perfect beach/pool coverup. It didn’t disappoint, but I wasn’t able to get any pictures!

This is the day I decided to experimenting with taking my own photos! I’m sure I’ll get better at this as time goes on. If you have any tips, pass them along, please!

Here is a collage of some of the looks.

I started with my white jeggings and a white sleeveless top that I showed you here.

Then I added my Cascading Vest. It’s such a versatile piece; that can easily be styled in a few different ways. It is perfect for helping to camouflage those jiggly, wiggly bits.

In the first picture below I just left it open.

Then I loosely tied it between my waist and hip area. This is also how I wore it at the beach for a cover-up.

I decided to add my pink Dooney & Bourke cross-body bag to for a pop of color.

My belted look. The belt is and shoes are a couple of years old. The belt is from White House Black Market and the shoes are by Italian Shoemakers and came from DSW.

Still belted, but I wanted to try a different pair of shoes. I changed to these black and white sandals from Vince Camuto. I got them from, you guessed it (if you’re a regular follower) HSN! I thought the black and white shoes might work by mirroring or bookending the black and white at the top.

I wasn’t sure I liked the look of the black and white shoes, but the ladies in the style club loved it and them, and they did achieve what I set out to do. What do you think? Which shoes do you prefer?

I tried adding a bit of color with my jewelry in addition to my bag.

I chose the pieces for the red/burgundy color to play off the pink of the bag. The necklace is a Plunder piece and is called Amari.  The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece. My baroque pearl earrings (you know I have to add pearls somewhere) are several years old and part of a set, one of my kids gave me as a gift.

What do you think of this versatile Cascading Vest?¬† I liked it so much I went back and ordered it in the Blue and Cream (which happens to be on sale right now). I’m sure it won’t last long so if you like it you better hurry over and order yours!

Some Girl Time and A Make-Over

This past Saturday I grabbed my daughter and headed to Ulta for an IT cosmetics makeover. Now we are not new to IT. We have been using IT products since the end of last year. I thought it would be a fun thing to do. Have a little girl time, spend some money, etc. I needed to buy a new mascara (amazing how mine had just run out). ¬†I started using the IT Super Hero mascara when it came with a kit I purchased around the holidays. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but came to like it. For several years I was using Dazzle Lash in Brunette from MAC. I loved it, it was the first mascara I had ever used that didn’t flake all over my face. But when I needed to buy a new one last year and headed off to MAC I discovered they no longer make it. In fact I guess¬†it had been way too long since I last bought it, because they looked at me as if I had three heads!

I decided to show you all the results of this event and make it a blog post.

Here I am, before, with no makeup. I may not win a prize, but…..

Here is the after. All made up ūüė≥. A bit scary in my opinion! If I was not a user of IT cosmetics, this would not have enticed me to become one!!!

I think I quite resembled “The Joker” from batman! The “old”, “real” Adam West Batman! I tend to go for a natural “no makeup” look. I’m not sure what I ended up with, but it is not me! My daughter said it’s just because I take horrible selfies, lol! I will admit I have not mastered the art of selfies yet, and I may never, but I don’t think that is it!!!

I never use eyeliner and this look is why. It certainly has not made me think I should start! I look as if I slept for three days in my make-up; after a bender! I also do not use mascara on my lower lashes.

Why? Well I have rather sparse to almost non-existent lower lashes (and the top ones are nothing to brag about)! I have been considering trying Lash Boost from Rodan & Fields. I have seen several pictures of ladies with lashes much like mine now and the results are amazing! Some are consultants for R&F and some not. A couple are people who I actually know. They have a great special going in right now, which is making it hard to not jump on the bandwagon! ¬†I have to admit, it’s VERY expensive and that is partially what has held me back. Have any of you heard of and/or used their products? If so what are your thoughts?¬†I will keep you posted on the decision, but if you have tried it, please let us know your thoughts.

Since this week has been crazy and I have not posted the blog much this week I have also not drawn the Plunder piece for last week. I will do two at one time and announce the winners.

Thank you to everyone that has participated! I hope the winners have or will enjoy their prize. I know one hasn’t arrived, yet, as it had quite a way to travel, but is on the way!

Today is the last to sign up with me for Plunder and have the chance to earn your kit for free and earn a free cruise in January! How lovely would that be? When it’s cold, dark, and dreary at home to be cruising the Caribbean!

You have until midnight so log onto to my website, click on Plunder Opportunity and then become a stylist or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com with questions or for details. I don’t know if there will be another opportunity like this. Starting a business for $99.00 is unheard of, but to start a business for free?! WOW!

Next week I will be sharing some of the looks I pulled together for the June challenges in The Style Club. You will really get to see my “selfie” taking at work, as I took several days of looks with my phone and a “selfie button”. Hopefully, my lack of skill will not scare you away! If you have not already joined there is time to do so, or get on the waiting list for the next wave. July’s challenges will focus on color. It promises to be interesting, but not as busy! Thank goodness, lol!

If you have not signed up for the blog email, yet, you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page or on the “pop-up”. I will not share your email with anyone else, you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. Remember you can also “Pin” the blog or just the photos to¬†Pinterest. So feel free to pin away!

Highlights From May

May was¬†a busy, strange month, lol! The weather couldn’t decided if wanted to be¬†spring or winter. It¬†actually rained here for¬†22 out of 31 days! We had the FlowerMart and Preakness here. It was Mother’s Day. ¬†I made some hosting changes with the blog (I thought that was going to “do me in”). ¬†Talk about “teaching an old dog new tricks”…..I did my first ever review for Covered Perfectly, it has been published on their blog and I will doing an interview for them soon. The Style Club had the accessory challenge. I didn’t participate in all of them, and inadvertently combined a few, but I did manage to participate. I made it through the first month of training with Jeff twice a week (and he didn’t kill me, yet). I attended a powerlifting meet and met another lady powerlifter in the masters division. I will be telling you more about her soon. And last, but not least, I participated in my first Fierce 50 Follow Friday as part of The Fierce 50 Revolution, on Instagram. It was just busy, busy, busy.

If you missed my review of the Fun and Flirty Fit and Flare for Covered Perfectly you can read all about it here.

If you shop with Covered Perfectly and use the code GG20 you can take 20% off on up to two items. The best deal is always the buy 2 get the 3rd item free.
This was the May schedule for the Style Club; I actively participated in 1, 2, 5, and 7 but I actually had some element of all but 6 in almost all of my looks, so I recycled a few pictures, lol!

This was from our day at the FlowerMart. The focus for this challenge was the necklace. It wasn’t until I was ready to post it I realized I had combined it with the Hat and Purse challenge! The necklace is a Plunder piece that has been retired.

Next was the scarf challenge, and what a challenge it was for me! I can do scarfs in the winter, but spring/summer has me baffled. Even after the challenge. This scarf came from JJill and I was got on clearance earlier in the year.

I decided to use the first challenge pictures and make the bag the focus for the bag challenge, since it was new and I got because of the color and it fitting in with the greenery color of the year. I ordered from HSN.

But for the hat challenge! Yes, the first group encompassed a hat and would have worked just fine, but I went out and got myself a new hat! I spent and insane amount of money for a Preakness Hat (ok not as insane as it could have been, but more than I have ever spent on a hat)! This fabulous¬†hat came from Christine A. Moore. She had a trunk show at our local HatsInTheBelfry store for Preakness and I just had to go….ok I just mentioned it being there “The Man” talked me into going. So that makes it his fault I bought a new hat, right?

This was my sunglasses challenge look. I just had to get these sunnies because they were different from my norm and that makes them fun! And the group insisted sunglasses are meant to be fun!

What do you think of the May challenge? Have you had a chance to check out the 40plusstyleclub? Have you registered for the waiting list? I know we just had a flurry of new members come on board for June. I hope to see you there.

The Fierce 50 Revolution is starting to take off and is gaining momentum. I enjoyed the Friday Follow and learning more about some of my new Fierce Sisters. You can read about them here. Together we are aiming to change the perception of women in mid-age and beyond! If you haven’t already you can go the Facebook page The Fierce 50 Revolution and join us. Let your voice be heard!

I told you yesterday, June is my birthday month and I’m going to be giving you all presents! Aren’t you excited? Every Friday in June I will be giving away¬†a piece of beautiful Plunder Jewelry. All you have to do to is comment on the blog posts be entered in a drawing. I will draw a name from all the comments during the week each¬†Friday night. On my actual birthday (I’m not going to tell you when that is, yet) I am going to give away a June Posse, pictured here. Who wants to guess when it is? Put your guess in the comments.

As you can there are three pieces of jewelry in the June Posse! Everyone who has commented up to that point will be entered in the drawing, even if you have already won.

If you want to sign up to receive the Plunder Posse each month you can do so here. The Plunder Posse is a subscription plan, much like Ipsy, Graze, etc. For $25 each month (which includes tax and shipping) you will receive 1-3 pieces of beautiful plunder jewelry. Your Posse will bill and ship on the same day each month, and you can cancel anytime or stop and start as often as you’d like if there’s a month you just don’t want it. If you have any questions or need help placing your order or have questions about joining the plunder business, email me at: grandma2glamma@gmail.com

Have you signed up for the blog email, yet? If not you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, and  you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. You can also follow my social media sites through the pop up or by clicking the following links:Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin. So feel free to pin away!

Don’t forget to leave a comment so that you can be entered in the drawing for this week. Since today is Friday, I will be drawing this weeks winner later tonight. Of course your comments also help more people to see the blog too.

Have a great weekend!

My Preakness Hat

A couple of weeks ago I posted my Kentucky Derby look when we attended the Baltimore FlowerMart. If you missed it, you can read about it here. Well, I decided, I just had to get a new hat for the Preakness Stakes! Since discovering I can wear hats last summer, I am always on the look out for a new one. Well what better reason to buy a hat but for the Preakness Stakes race?

For those unfamiliar with horse racing; the Preakness is the second race in the quest for the triple crown. It is run two weeks after the Kentucky Derby here in Baltimore at Pimlico Racetrack. The next leg is run at Belmont in NY in three weeks.

Now I am in no way a horse racing aficionado. I only pay attention to these three races and mainly because the second one is run here at home. I must admit I like the fashion aspect of it too and have always been fascinated by the hats…..other than that, it’s just another day. Fortunately I had the good sense not to take up horse betting too. The finish was not expected and I would have not won a dime!!

Early last week Hats In The Belfry posted on Facebook that designer/milliner Christine A. Moore would be having a trunk a show at the local FellsPoint store (my regular store) Thursday and Friday with her designs for Preakness. She an official milliner for numerous horse racing venues, and the featured milliner at many races, including the Preakness. You really should go to her website and read all about her, her amazing career, and accomplishments.

After much thinking (ok not too much, I barely mentioned it to “The Man”) we headed down there Friday evening. I spent over an hour looking at all the hats on display, from the ones in the show to the ones that are staples at the store.

These were the contenders.

I looked at this one several times, but I had almost made my decision as to which one I was getting, before I decided to try it. I liked it, a lot, but now that I look at the picture I think it flattens me some. I’m pretty sure I could find just the right outfit and it would have a much different look.

This next one is one that was already at the store and not part of the show. I don’t remember¬†if this was Christine’s design¬†or not. I like the color and the fit and the brim size is one that I am most comfortable with.

The hat below is the first hat that caught my eye and I tried it on, immediately,  when I walked in the store. I was totally convinced it was way to large for me!

It did go well with the top I had on, lol! Christine was fabulous and helped to play around and shape it differently. She may have been glad to see me leave, lol!

What do you think about the two different looks on the same hat?

Playing with the brim and giving it that asymmetry look made a big difference, I think.

So which hat do you think I chose? Out of the ones pictured, which is your favorite? Why? My sons think I look silly in hats. What are your thoughts?

Christine hasn’t left the man in your life out, either. If you go to the website and click on The Blake Collection, you will be able to find a hat suitable for your Mister.

This was the hat I chose and my Preakness day look. I had several ideas for styling it right from the start.

But ¬†of course, it didn’t work like I planned.

This wasn’t my first choice for what I wanted to wear, for the day, but life took over and we had some things we had to take care of; so a day at the race track did not happen. This became the¬†best outfit choice for the way the day turned out and to go out later and enjoy the Preakness from a local establishment. This was an outfit that I knew the hat would look good with, just not what I planned on for this day.

This was the best picture I was able to get. I had hoped for a full length photo, but I really need to stop trying to let “The Man” be a photographer….that’s a story for another day!

The top is the cold shoulder one I showed you a while back during the first style club challenge. It came from White House Black Market. This is my first ever cold shoulder top. I have taken a while to get on the bandwagon with this trend. When I put it on I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to wear it. It felt strange. After a few minutes, I got used to the feel and it was actually very comfortable and I felt confident and it had just the right amount of coverage. The white ankle jeans are from Levi. The purse you’ve seen before, it is called Sawyer from Dooney and Bourke. The jewelry from both days is from¬†Plunder¬†the earrings from the first pictures are in the new catalog and called Kelsie. They have peach colored stones and match back to the Kayson bracelet. They do have a bit of weight to them, but I don’t think they are overly heavy. This bracelet and earrings are now part of the new Plunder Sets and are called the¬†Geranium Set. Just this month Plunder put together matching pieces in sets. ¬†If you’ve been looking at getting pieces that match¬†now¬†you can order a set and save some money! Of course this was after I went on my own shopping spree, lol! The necklace I am wearing is part of the March Posse, and is no longer available. It came with matching earrings. The Plunder Posse is a monthly subscription where you get 1-3 pieces of jewelry each month for $25.00 tax and shipping included. You can cancel and restart as often as you’d like. That works out well if one month you don’t care for the selection. ¬†The bracelet that you can’t see very well is called Paige¬†and is part of the new line.

What do you think of my new hat and Preakness look? Out of the three I showed you, which would you have chosen?

Worst Mani/Pedi Ever

Do you have something built up in your mind only to get it and be disappointed? I have been saying I need to get a pedicure so bad it wasn’t funny. Thursday night I finally managed to get myself down to the nail salon for a much over due mani/pedi. I should have waited longer!

This was by far the worst experience ever! I left there knowing my manicure was awful. The person started by cutting my nails (which I asked for and was needed) just straight across, not really filing them and when she sent me to wash my hands I noticed not only were they not filed they were pokey, ragged, and jagged and still just straight, no rounding or anything….well I told here she had to fix them (they were rounded when I got there, what would make her think I would be happy with that mess?). Well when I gave up, they were finally rounded acceptably but one hand is shorter than the other ( I was honestly afraid to try to have them “fixed” any further!

I didn’t realize how bad the pedi was until I got home and went to bed. My toe nails were catching on the bed covers! When I checked them I found bits of nail in the cuticle that hadn’t been attended too! I am glad people can’t really see your feet, because after that I got down close to look and found a couple of toe nails aren’t straight and the polish is not even on my one big toe! It started off by the water being almost cold for the pedicure; that should have been my first clue. What made me think it was going to be ok is beyond me….

I have been going to this salon for a couple of years. I don’t usually go in the winter, because lets face it no one is going to see my feet in cold weather! The technicians¬†were all new, except for two that have been there since it opened and one of those is the manager. I had been given a gift certificate for Christmas or I probably would not have gone to that location. The last time I was there I wasn’t happy with the service, but it was nothing like this!

I am not one to gripe and complain, but this was beyond bad. And I have had just a few mani/pedis in my time to compare to and never have I had an experience like this! If you are local it was Nail Trix in Canton. I would NOT recommend you go there! You can bet the farm I never will again!

Have you looked over the changes on the blog? I am trying to not make any real aesthetic changes for now. I am trying to learn the new system first, but some changes in the way it looks are by default. Other than that; does everything seem to be working for you ok? Are you receiving your emails when there is a new post? If something isn’t right please let me know. I feel better about the changes today than I did Friday, but I am still learning the new way, and as of yet I am not convinced it’s all right. I appreciate your liking, sharing, and comments. That is what helps to get the word out. If you don’t already and would like to follow me on social media you can do so by clicking here for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin. If you click on the buttons below you can share right to your pages.

Until the next time
