Fashion Friday-A Fashion Question For You

It’s Friday! Happy Friday….Friday the 13th!! Oh boy, and in October…

Scary? Good Luck? Just another day? Are you superstitious?

I have a friend who is so superstitious he takes off work and stays in the house every Friday the 13th. Can you believe we are almost half way through October? Halloween is just around the corner.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been playing around in Targets’ Halloween section with the animal heads when we go, lol! The last time we were there I just had to try on another one. It went with my outfit after all, lol! I showed you the first one here, “The Man” all but dared me that day. I did this one all on my own.

Wasn’t it just puurrrrr-fect?

Do you dress up and “get into” Halloween? We have been dressing up with the littles as a family, with a theme the past few years. I will share that with you later this month. I’m not quite sure what we are doing this year. Noah and Miss Quinn are starting to come up with their own ideas for dressing up and they don’t usually sync up with each other never mind getting everyone in on it….

This morning I was woke up out of a good sleep, by a phone call, from “The Man”, slightly before 5am (no wonder I’m dragging)…now for starters a call when he is at work and I’m in bed, scares the bejesus out of me. I answered the phone to hear “your coffee’s on the table”. What? “With donuts”. Huh? I’m thinking to myself, why are you stopping home with coffee and donuts? You’re route isn’t near here on Friday. I didn’t voice this as my brain was still trying to process this and my heart was slowing down to normal again….all the while he was still talking away. The man of few words, cannot be quiet some times. He went on to explain that he told me was going to be home early on friday for the the next few weeks, until the beginning of November, due to some rerouting and a new route taking effect. I remember he said something about being home early. I wasn’t expecting it to be before 5am….but he did bring me coffee. That’s something, right? Oh, and donuts. I didn’t need the donuts…but did that stop me? Bahahaha!!! No.

Are you ready for the weekend? Do you have plans?

I hope my weekend is pretty uneventful. I’m meeting my Rodan+Fields friend, Kathy, for dinner tonight and I have my usual Saturday activities on the agenda; the #saturday7amsocialclub meeting and my session with Jeff, but that’s all. After last weeks full weekend with YTT and next week being the races (YIKES) staying in this weekend sounds pretty good. It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work and after birthday parties two Sunday’s in a row, I know he is looking forward to not going anywhere Sunday. He thinks he’s going to stop working Saturdays by the end of the year…..whatever will I do? I’m not sure this will work, for me, lol….

I will do a short run Sunday morning and then start the “taper” process, in hopes to be ready for races next week. According to the scale I have already started the carb-loading process (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it)….what’s bad about that is because of YTT last week I haven’t weighed in for October yet….I will have to do that tomorrow at the meeting (unless I don’t go). That’s not a good option since I missed last week and will miss next week due to the races. So I will go, weigh in, and live with my choices. I will still be under goal, I just don’t like “seeing” that number go up even when I know why. Add to that me going out to eat tonight. I did have a bit of a plan for that, but then pumpkin spice donuts entered the house this morning and I didn’t “just say no”…..it’s life. You live it and move on.

Okay. It is Fashion Friday, after all, so let’s have a little fashion talk.

This morning I was scrolling through Facebook and one of the members of the 40+style club posted a question/dilemma.

Below is her post:

“Can we discuss dressing to be situationally appropriate? I couldn’t find any threads already started.

I live in an area that is very casual and pulling myself together with a statement necklace is enough to make me feel conspicuous. This is ok but as I start figuring out the clothing that really makes my heart happy I’m afraid I will stand out like a clown. When I travel outside of my locale I’m much more apt to be authentic.

Case and point: I have a mtg this morning at a coffee shop. I really want to wear my new lace dress with a chambray short jacket and lt grey sneakers. I won’t wear it because it would be too over the top. I’ll probably wear a lace blouse instead w jeans.

Just wondering if you girls think about this and how many of you go with your heart.❤️

My first thought was, how sad for her. And how awful to possibly need two different wardrobes. Then it brought to mind an encounter I had a few weeks ago. The area I live in is a very “blue collar”, casual type area and getting more casual with some of the younger crowd that is moving in.

I showed you the outfit in the picture below last month and I consider this to be a rather casual outfit. It can be elevated, but it would still be casual. Overall I consider my style casual, classic, occasionally romantic and a little boho. I seem to go through phases. During the week with the littles I tend to dress more casually than I do on the weekends, but I still like to look nice.

I wore this exact outfit a couple of weeks ago with the sleeveless vest and statement necklace below. The necklace is from the Plunder Fall Line and is called Dallas. It had just arrived a day or so before and I think is perfect with this top. Actually I just love it period! It’s eclectic, quirky, fun, and definitely makes a statement.

I had to take Noah to the bus, then run a few errands before heading out to pick Miss Quinn up from school. When I walked Noah to the bus stop, one of the young mothers commented that I looked nice and sure was dressed up. Really? Dressed up? I think this is pretty casual, even with the addition of the vest and necklace. What do you think? Dressed up or casual?

Does wearing something other than sweatpants with “bootylicious”  written across the rear end or pajama pants out and about constitute being “dressed up” these days? I sure hope not! There are still plenty of ladies in our neighborhood who wouldn’t dream of going out the door if every hair wasn’t in place and fresh lipstick applied. Thank goodness for them!

I admit, I don’t wear makeup every day; I never have, but I do try to dress nice and do my hair. I don’t know about you, but I feel better when, as the saying goes, “I get up, dress up, and show up”. I definitely feel different on days that I know I’m not going anywhere and may not put much effort or thought into how I dress. And yes, I have those days where I will hang in the house in sweats and such. Those are usually house cleaning days and I have never bought into dressing up to scrub the floor. I would change before going out though.

What would your advice be to the member who posted this?

I say: Wear what you want/like. Be you/do you, let them wonder why you are “dressed up” or “over the top”. Maybe others want to dress as you do yet have the same feelings. Maybe you will inspire them to be who they want to be.

I would love to hear your opinion.

Yoga Teacher Training-Week 2

Whew, its Monday! What a busy weekend! I needed this new week to start to rest up from the weekend! It’s raining here today for the first time in a month. That should make for a slow, lazy day and boy do I need it after this weekend!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun and exciting?

This was my Yoga Teacher Training-YTT AND the Rodan+Fields convention and new product launch weekend. On top of that there was a birthday party for Lessa and Miss Quinn on Sunday (which I had to miss). Since Lessa’s birthday was really on the 2nd, we had cupcakes and such then. Miss Quinn’s birthday is actually Friday the 13th and we will have a little home celebration then too.

Lessa and Miss Quinn

How many ways can you say crazy busy?

YTT

I was sooooo worried going into YTT weekend. I felt like I was way behind with my homework and unprepared. Most of last week I was waffling back and forth between “I can do this” to “I can’t do this”, “what have I done”? I had plenty of those “I’m going to flunk out of YTT” thoughts off and on much of the week. Who flunks out of yoga teacher training? Oh I was quite a mess! I may have been worried for nothing.

When I got to class Friday night, I discovered I was not the only one with those thoughts and I was not the only one who was a bit behind. Some were much farther behind than I was. Misery loves company?

When I left class Friday night I felt much better and by the end of last night I was back to thinking “I can do this”. I came home and just “let it go”. I haven’t even looked at my books or let myself think about the mountain of homework this next month will entail. It makes last months look like nothing, and I still need to finish the few things I didn’t get done. Out of sight, out of mind? Not really, but I am taking today to process the weekend before I dive back into it. There is just sooooo much information packed into the weekend that you (or at least I) definitely need a day to assimilate before tackling the next step.

I planned to run yesterday (or at least walk) during our lunch break, but that didn’t happen. Our last lesson/practice before lunch was a meditation practice. When we were finished our instructor suggested we go out to lunch and notice how things were in the world. I had brought my lunch and am car pooling, so going off was not an easy option for me. Instead I took my lunch and went to sit outside. I was in such a peaceful, zen/meditative state that running or walking was not something I could even consider. I did not want to break that calm feeling and I knew such an activity would alter that.

Many ladies came back and said they noticed sounds being more amplified and the world seemed to be moving faster. I had the opposite experience and so did a couple of others. As I sat outside, the cars on the road seemed to be moving in slow motion and the sounds were very hushed. That is the most or deepest I have ever gone into a meditation. It was a new and interesting experience.

Have you ever had such an experience? Please share.

Rodan+Fields Convention/Product Launch

I couldn’t attend the convention in Vegas or go with the few members of my team that went to Charleston, SC for a virtual event, because I was already obligated to YTT. Or maybe I should say I could have gone, but I would have had to make up the YTT weekend at a cost of $60 per hour and each training is approx 20 hours long 😳. I could not justify that.

I chose the virtual option for Rodan+Fields so that I could attend and  watch from home and have immediate access to purchase the new products! Thursday night and Friday I was busy watching the convention via direct feed. Of course I missed all the weekend studies and activities, due to YTT, but I can go back and view them, multiple times! I was glad Friday was the day our new products were launched! I was able to see and order them right away! I am so excited for these three NEW products!

The new products; Intensive Renewing Serum with RetinAl, a new AMP MD micro exfoliating Roller, and the Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex

I ordered as soon as they were up (by being online I was able to see exactly when they were put up and had ordered mine before they told everyone they were ready to order, lol) and right now it looks as though I will have them by Thursday (I hope they make it here sooner)! I think I heard that the Vegas attendees were able to get theirs on the spot (that’s the only thing that would have been better). I will certainly let you know when they arrive!

If launching THREE NEW products wasn’t enough, there was also a new program announced for NEW consultants. I’m still trying to take it all in and learn the ins and outs!

Now I know you may be saying, “I can’t join Rodan+Fields, I know nothing” about skincare. Well neither did I, and that was a concern. What I did know was that I needed to up my skincare game. In fact, I don’t know any consultants who knew anything about skincare, before they started, but you don’t need to.

Why?

Drs. Rodan+Fields are Stanford trained and practicing dermatologists in California. They are so sought after, they have a two year waiting list for appointments. But they have made it easy for us to help our customers by taking away the guess work.

How?

By giving us the “Solutions Tool“.

https://jearlingbencivenni.myrandf.com/Pages/OurProducts/GetAdvice/SolutionsTool

What is that?

It is an online tool that will help you and your customers figure out what products and regimen will work best for you or them. You will also have access to a wealth of product information and there is a nurse is available to call on if you have any questions.

You may be saying “I’m a man”, I can’t join Rodan+Fields. Sure you can! We have several HIGHLY successful male consultants as well as male customers. They do sell skincare, but mainly work their businesses based on the business opportunity with the company. If you are looking for a business investment, don’t think twice. This is a sound business model, that has seen tremendous growth, and is only going to continue to grow.

Some people join Rodan+Fields as a consultant only for the product discount and are quite happy with that. Others join for the discount and soon decide they want to work the business and start moving up the ladder. Then there are those who see the tremendous business opportunity from the start and join with the intention of growing a successful business. If you want to join me and work this as a business, starting now, this new program will “reward” you for getting your business up and moving. The incentives are phenomenal and you will have access to some great training, information, and a wonderful support system. You will never feel like you are in it alone or “hung out to dry”.

There are several ways or levels to sign up and become a consultant. Starting now, if you join Rodan+Fields  with a Business Building Kit you will automatically receive the NEW products in it AND be enrolled in the NEW program. If you are interested in joining me or learning more, message or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com for details.

The Intensive Renewing Serum with the new AMP MD roller will be available for customers to order beginning October 18th and the Bright Eye Complex will be available for you to order beginning November 2nd. Why not give yourself the gift of younger looking skin for the holidays?

It was an amazing weekend but there’s no way to fully describe the intensity. I can say I’m glad to be back to a normal schedule, lol!

Fashion Friday and Being A Little Silly

Happy Friday! Or as Noah has been saying lately Fri-Yay….where did a six-year-old get that from, lol!

Do you have plans for the weekend, yet?

It’s “The Man’s” Saturday to work so you know that usually means things will pretty much be low-key around here. Not like last weekend when I got a wild hair and called and made motel reservations in New Jersey.

Our granddaughter, Miss Mia, is having her first birthday party Sunday and I’m sure there will be a trip to that “big box store” but this week I don’t think it’s avoidable….

I can’t believe we have made it through a full week of fall and it still feels like summer. The heat index was almost 100 a couple of days ago! This won’t last much longer, I’m sure. It seems our weather is trying to make a turn toward more seasonal temps this weekend; which is fine. It’s time for everything pumpkin spice! Lol! I have been seeing it everywhere for the past few weeks. Last week “The Man” came home from work and brought me a surprise:

Yes, you are seeing that right, lol. Pumpkin flavored lip balm! He was quite pleased with himself. Now I love pumpkin spice and will actually have it off and on year round (why wait for a particular season for something you like) but I had no desire to have this. It’s the thought that counts, though, right?

This isn’t the usual Fashion Friday post (because there isn’t much in the way of fashion, lol) and last Friday was so crazy I totally missed it (that craziness is what prompted my escape to the shore). If you remember I told you about our trip to the Baltimore Harbor weekend before last and my inability to find anything I liked to wear. I had a few better days during the week but didn’t try to put anything together to share with you.

The photo below was on our way home from our outing at the harbor. This is what I put together and finally deemed acceptable to go out of the house in.

Ok, the panda head was not part of my outfit, hahaha! We had to stop at Target on the way home and “The Man” kind of dared me to try on the panda head in the Halloween section, so he could take a picture. His words were “you can put that on your blog” I don’t think he really thought I would share it (he should know better by now)! Silly man. Where has he been for the past 37 years? Since I didn’t like my hair, that day, any better than the clothes I was putting together, the panda head may have been an improvement. Hey it matches!

You have seen elements of the rest of this outfit before. These embroidered crop jeans from White House Black Market are my new favorite jeans. I have practically been living in them. The white tank is the Simple Tank from Covered Perfectly, and the sleeveless vest is new, from Chico’s outlet. I bought it during my shopping trip to the outlets in Lancaster, PA last month. The jewelry is all retired Plunder pieces.

Remember as a Grandma to Glamma blog reader you get 20% OFF on up to two items when you shop at Covered Perfectly! Use the discount code GG20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount will apply on up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the “Buy 2 get your 3rd FREE” special. This special applies to any combination of items storewide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied automatically. Only one of the discounts will work. Start shopping!

Yesterday I told you about the special Plunder sign up incentive. This is really a great deal, if you are thinking of starting your own business, looking for a hobby, want to make new friends, or maybe want to get a head start on your holiday shopping.

You will receive a total of 19 pieces of jewelry with your kit instead of the usual 9 pieces. And with Plunder there is no sales requirement or quota to meet. Email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com if you need more information. Many of our most successful Plunder stylists signed up for the kit because it was such a great deal (they called themselves “kitnappers”). They never had any thoughts of working this as business, but once they started wearing their jewelry their friends wanted it and things just took off!

Remember if you place a Plunder order through the end of September for $75 or more (excluding tax and shipping) you will receive an extra piece of vintage Plunder from me!

What I haven’t told you much about is the “Bridging the Gap” campaign I am participating in with the Fierce 50 group! A little while back the Facebook group name was changed to: Forever Fierce:The Midlife Revolution. If you haven’t joined the group yet and would like to be part of changing the perception of midlife and beyond, click on the link and join us!

The “Bridging the Gap” campaign is a collaboration of Midlife bloggers teaming up with Millennial bloggers to “Bridge the Gap” between the different generations. We are truly “Stronger Together”! I have been partnered with Lauren from the blog Bohemianbythebay. I haven’t had a chance to “meet” her yet, except through email. I hope to be able to Skype or FaceTime with her soon. You can also find her on instagram here. Go on over and check her out!

I also have a phone interview tonight with Ingrid of the blog Fit-Twist Health. She is writing a book, The Anti-Aging Secrets of Yoga. I am looking forward to speaking with her and sharing my love and experience with yoga. I enjoy sharing my love of yoga and truly believe it is a practice that anyone can do. Even with all my other “activities” yoga is my first love!

Transitioning To Fall

The day after Labor Day! The first day of school for many. The ending of summer, the beginning of fall. The change of seasons. My little Noah was up early to get ready for his first day of first grade, Miss Quinn will go to her preschool class tomorrow. She will only go one day this week, then start her regular schedule next week. This will drastically change my routine, or should I say I will be getting back into a routine?

The picture on the left was in my Facebook memories this morning. On this day five years ago Noah climbed up in my rocker all by himself. On the right is his picture from this morning, heading off to school. My “beautiful boy”, growing up so fast.

Many people have said the past couple of weeks that they look at September/fall as a time of renewal. Do you? I think I feel that way in spring and fall. In spring we are awakening from the winter and in fall we are winding down from the busy summer and preparing for winter.

As fall approaches we transition from summer wear to our fall clothes. The colors become richer, the sweaters, leggings, and boots come out of the closet. I love dressing for fall. I personally find fall, winter, and even spring easier to dress for than summer. Maybe that’s because I like the cozy sweaters and boots. I like layering at times and summer is not a good season, for me, to do that. What about you? What is your favorite season to dress for?

This past Friday on my “me day” I grabbed the camera and tripod and took myself to a local park to practice taking my own pictures. I went to a park in a “good” area because I wanted to feel safe, since I was by myself. I didn’t count on it being really busy, lol. I figured out how to work the timer feature and how to set it to take multiple shots at once and how to focus. I didn’t get great shots. The park was so busy I was actually self-conscious taking photos of myself!

It was such a crisp cool day I was able to wear early “fall” clothes. Today I was back to summer wear! I suspect this will be the trend for the next month or two, but I am suspecting we may have an early fall and winter.

Because I didn’t want people to think I was a weirdo, photographing them or their children the lighting and such was not great and I was looking into the sun more than I had wanted to. How do you bloggers who take your own photos do it? Do you only take them at home or do you go out and about? If you are out in public do you feel self conscious?

In this picture you can see the “tail” of my necklace had fallen forward. I used it because I was smiling and not squinting with my eyes closed!

I was excited to be able to wear my Covered Perfectly Fit and Flare tunic, which I featured here with a pair of Legging Army leggings and my Vince Camuto over the knee boots.

The boots can be turned down to wear as a below the knee boot too. I bought these along with a burgundy pair, in suede, last year. Can you guess which pair are my favorite? I order most of my Vince Camuto boots and shoes from the Home Shopping Network-HSN. I was a bit hesitant to order them because they are not wide calf and basically slip on with a small side zipper. My wide calf boots are actually a bit large now, but regular calf boots are hit or miss. I was so excited when they came and I could wear them, that I wanted to buy them all. These boots have about a two-inch heel, so they are pretty flat and easy to walk in. That’s actually why I chose them for this day. I didn’t want to wear “heels” knowing I was planning to be in a park.

The necklace is from Plunder and is called Lynn. It was a “bring back my bling” special earlier this year. Plunder has started to bring back a retired piece, that was really popular in limited quantities, usually once a month maybe twice. If you see something you like, you need to act fast because they don’t usually last very long.

Today we just had some beautiful special pieces posted for breast cancer awareness. These pieces will not last long, so if you or someone you know has been touched by breast cancer maybe this is a perfect gift. Plunder is donating 20% of the proceeds from the sale of these items to the “Power of Pink” walk.

If you have any questions about any of these pieces or Plunder in general, message me or email me at grandma2glamma@gamil.com. If you want to place an order you can go to my website: www.plunderdesign.com/grandma2glamma click on shop and then select any party with my name in it, right now I still have a party open from august and it will be “janeteaugust”. You will find these piece listed under “specials”.

Denim, Chiffon, and Embroidery

Woo Hoo! It’s Friday! That means it’s time for Fashion Friday and another week has coming to a close. I have been given a rare gift for today. A “me” day! Whatever am I going to do with myself? And it’s a holiday weekend.! Did I hit the jackpot or what? So far, I have planned a phone call with my Plunder sister Patti (Patti is a new blogger, you can find her at 55isfine.com, check out her blog and subscribe) to pick her brain. Patti, is in Texas, that’s what’s one of the great things about my business(es) I have made friends with some wonderful ladies all over the US! I am also expecting a fun, exciting Plunder delivery today. I hope to be able to get some blog photos shot this weekend so that I can share them with you. I am planning some serious fun and ribbing….uh oh, watch out! Maybe I will take the camera out somewhere and see if I can master taking my own photos, or at least making them look somewhat decent.

Do you have any plans for your long weekend? Ours might be weather dependent. Right now it looks like starting tonight into tomorrow it will be all rain, with fall like temperatures. I just keep singing “Rain is a good thing”. What else can you do? It is definitely fall-like weather today. Once I can acclimate I will really be happy. I will try not to make the mistake I made in the spring and switch my clothes out too soon.

Facebook reminded me, this morning, that it was six years ago today that I left my job of eight years to begin taking care of my little Noah. Maybe, it’s fitting that today is my “me” day!

Today I am showing a couple of different looks with the same blouse and including the jeans I showed you earlier in the week.

Here I have styled with a denim skirt. Believe it or not, this is the first denim skirt I have ever owned. That’s about as crazy as only getting my first denim jacket this year! I told you about that here.

We shot these photos when we were shooting for my Covered Perfectly review the other week. If you missed that post, you can find it here. My daughter was the photographer (have to give her a plug)!

Look Ma no hands!

Remember my daughter and her ideas of me getting on ledges? Yeah, she didn’t give that idea up. Ok, this wasn’t really very high, in fact calling it a ledge is a stretch, but I had to give her a raft of stuff about it.

The top is from White House Black Market. It is a chiffon fabric and most of the flowers are embroidered. The skirt is from Levi. You have seen the sandals a few times this year. They are by Italian Shoemakers and came from DSW a couple of years ago.

You may have noticed these photos aren’t the best. This is a lesson, of sorts, on lighting. It was definitely not good in this spot for photos at that time of day. Sometimes you don’t know that until you go to view them. I tried to work with them some, but wasn’t able to help them much. My photography/editing skills are a “work in progress”.

Here is the same blouse with the jeans I wore to the fair also from White House Black Market, and the same shoes. Like I said these may very well be my new favorite jeans.

The light is much better for these photos, but it is still not the “best”. These were also taken with my phone vs the camera.

My three happy things for Thursday were:

1. Snuggles with Miss Quinn in the morning

2. A great yoga practice

3. Tomorrow is Friday

Let me know how you are coming with listing your happy things each day.

I haven’t talked to much about Legging Army over the summer, because most of us don’t want to think about leggings in the summer. But today through Monday we are having a summer blow-out special.

EVERYTHING on the side is 10% off. We are getting ready to load up the fall/winter line. Head over and check it out, but don’t wait too long, these things go fast, especially the more “graphic” prints.

Fun At The Fair

I awoke this morning to the patter of rain in the window. It was a comforting sound. You know that peaceful patter of rain falling gently. I was thankful that it wasn’t a storm. It has rained like that all day. I thought about the people in Texas who have lost so much, and here I am enjoying the sound of gentle rain drops. Such a difference. There are many relief organizations that you can give to, to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. If so choose, please help in whatever way you can. If you can do nothing more than say a prayer, please do.

Do you attend your state or county fair? As long as I can remember I have always loved going at least once a year to the fair.

This past weekend we took two of the grand littles Noah and Miss Quinn to the fair. It was only in its third day and was their second visit, lol. Their parents took them on opening night when they could ride all they wanted for one price. That certainly didn’t stop them from wanting to go back or having a good time.

Fortunately they can only ride the “kiddie” rides. I am not a fan of some of those rides, so I am quite happy not to need to worry about getting on them. I must admit some of the horror stories you may have heard in the news lately play into that.

Noah and Miss Quinn on the “speedway”.

Riding the teacups. That’s my speed, lol!

Can I just say these were the fastest spinning teacups ever? And they were in the “little kids” rides!

Now we are going to ride the helicopter.

Have I told you I have a fear of heights? How did I get myself into this one?

What was I thinking

Just standing around waiting.

I wore my “choose happy” t-shirt. I bought this for Plunder and last years Plunder anthem, but it was also fitting since “Get Happy” was the WW theme and challenge for this week. Ironically every time I wear it “The Man” is a bear….I think he needs the shirt, lol! I wore my latest embroidered “crop” jeans from White House Black Market. These might just be my new favorite jeans. They are a bit long for crops on me (what’s new) but because of the embroidery they cannot be shortened. That’s ok. At least for me. The military cargo style jacket is also from WHBM and the shoes are leather converse, and let’s not forget my favorite summer “go to” cross body Dooney and Bourke.

The keeper of the tickets

Amanda (my daughter) hamming it up….guess she was trying to show me how a “selfie”is done, lol!

The little bird necklace I am wearing says “I Choose Happy”. It was the Plunder anthem piece from 2016. So simple and so meaningful. The bracelet is a retired Plunder piece too and says “simplify” on that little heart you see. My earrings are old and are Black Hills Silver and Gold. I got them on my first trip to the Black Hills.

Noah and Miss Quinn wanted to play in these giant “rock’em-sock’em” type balls. They allowed them to go by themselves so they could do it without being over run by the big kids. That was a good thing because they could barely lift them up. They had a blast though.

Noah in the ball
Miss Quinn in the ball

A good time was had by all.

And we finished up with that yummy ice cream I told you about yesterday.

How are doing with finding your three happy things from your day? I hope  you take a moment to share with us.

My three happy things for Monday:

1. Miss Quinn and Lessa did not fight all day.

2. I hit my Fitbit step goal today, for the first time in forever on a week day.

3. I had a pan of dressing/stuffing in the freezer from the last time I made a large batch. I took it out and made it for dinner tonight!

Peek-A-Boo

It’s Friday, again, a new weekend with new possibilities. New things to explore and get into! Have you made plans yet?

I have decided to start dedicating Friday’s blog post to fashion, that’s not to say there won’t be a fashion post on other days, but I like the idea of “Fashion Friday”. I am borrowing that idea from my friend and fellow blogger Amy Kennedy over at http://www.yourfavoritechapter.com. If you don’t already follow Amy, you should head over, check out her blog, and subscribe.

Today I am sharing my review of the Covered Perfectly Sexy Peek A Boo top. I gave you a sneak peek of this top Tuesday. Did you know, Covered Perfectly is Made in the USA, and is a fairly new, woman owned small business? When Pauline, the owner, of Covered Perfectly asked me if I’d like to do another “official” review for her, I was excited to do so.

DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post. What that means is: I was provided the product for review. If you click on the links in the post and make a purchase, I may make a small commission at no additional cost to you.

I chose the Peek A Boo in Maroon, specifically for the cut outs on the arms and the color (you may know I consider burgundy, wine, maroon my “signature” color). I have not been able to fully jump on the cold shoulder band wagon. I like the look, I like the look on others, but so far I have only found one I like on me. And I don’t wear that very often. For me they aren’t comfortable. And by that I mean the over all fit. I don’t mind the openness of the shoulders, they just don’t seem to “feel” right to me.

The Peek A Boo offers that flirty, open shoulder look and shows a bit of arm, but has more coverage than a regular cold shoulder top. It’s like a perfect union of cold shoulder meets regular sleeves. So, if you are like me and just not a cold shoulder top girl the Peek A Boo may be the perfect alternative for you too!

Are you a fan of the cold shoulder look? If so, Covered Perfectly has you covered there too! And after wearing the Peek A Boo and loving it, I may have to give one a try.

The Sexy Peek A Boo is an A-line cut so it flows and skims your body without accentuating any lumps, bumps, and jiggly wiggly bits you might have. I know I have plenty of those. The Peek A Boo is made from the MicroModal fabric (as are most Covered Perfectly tops) which has great breathability in the heat (or when you may be having your own “personal summer” moments) and you could practically sleep in it and get up and go (see Tuesday’s post for my antics before these photos were taken). They are great to wear while traveling and I always make sure to pack a Covered Perfectly Simple Comfort top when I travel for that reason. I know I can just grab it from the suitcase, change, and go when I get to my destination; if I need to.

If you are a regular follower of the blog, you likely know I am short. I can only claim to be 5′ tall on a 80’s hair day and even then it’s iffy. Although the Covered Perfectly tops do not come in a petite length, they are not too long for me. As you can see they cover my front and rear just enough, but not too much. I am wearing it here with white “pull-on” skinny jeans/jeggings, but I would be able to wear it comfortably with regular jeans, leggings or a dressier pant too. The scoop neckline is perfect for accessorizing and you can see different looks for that here. So ladies, if you are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to try a Covered Perfectly Top. If you are taller they will, obviously, be a bit shorter on you.

What do you think about this fun, fashionable, and Sexy Peek A Boo? I really want to know.

The Things You Do For A Fashion Blog Post

I could have gotten more than I bargained for

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. Yesterday on the blog, I told you my daughter asked me Saturday night if I wanted to go Sunday and take pictures for the blog. I wasn’t sure if it would work out or not, but I had a review to do, so I was hoping it would be a good day. Sunday was a much better day for me and I was in a much better place than Saturday. If you haven’t already, you can read about it here.

I knew we couldn’t wander far because we got a late start. I had a twelve-mile run to get in first and the past couple of weeks I haven’t been going as early as a few weeks back. The temperature hasn’t been as oppressive and when race day hits we won’t be starting at 5:30am either, so I’ve been going a bit later, in hopes of acclimating time wise. I may need to vary that again, though, as the miles add up or I won’t get a thing accomplished. Then of course we had to get ready and hit the grocery store.

By the time all that was said and done and we could head out, we didn’t have much time. So we headed off to North Point State park. We’ve done pictures here before so I knew there were places to get some good shots. I really like taking pictures out in nature and still needed to be there too. I could have gotten more than I bargained for on this excursion, lol!

We arrived at the park and got ourselves together to head out and get some shots. As we started walking out of the parking lot toward the path to lead where we had planned to go, I wondered aloud if there were places in the park we didn’t know about.

Well lo and behold a sign appeared in front of us.

We decided to go see what the “Ridgely House” had to offer in the way of photography spots…..

Little did we know we were going to be hiking to get there! We finally got the camera out to take a few shots along the way.

Before we got to this point though, I started rethinking this idea. I was not sure what kind of creatures we would encounter along the way. We did see some of the largest butterflies I’ve ever seen, but the camera wasn’t out and ready to try to photograph them. Anything else I hopefully scared off as I was singing and making a lot of noise along the way, when I realized this could be dangerous and home to a host of unsavory characters….of course my singing may have angered them instead of scaring them too….that could have backfired!

Deeper in the woods.

We finally made it to the site of the Ridgely House.

What? You have got to be kidding me? This is what we came to see? I plodded through spider webs and potential other creatures for a ruin? To get shots for a fashion post and review? Oh boy!

In my flip-flops and white jeans to boot. Do you know what could have gotten my toes? After running twelve miles wearing shoes is not easy, or should I say closing my feet back up is torture, so I figured I would just carry the ones I planned to wear. Yeah, neither was the best choice of foot wear for hiking through the woods!

Well we were here, we might as well make the best of it.

On the way out we read the plaque that told about the Ridgely House. You can’t really read it, but it never mentioned it was now a ruin….

The actual purpose of this trip was to review the top I am wearing for Covered Perfectly. I am not sure Pauline’s vision when she designed her fabulous tops was for women to wear them while hiking through the woods.

So while this will not be my “official” review. I was wearing the Covered Perfectly Peek-A-Boo top in maroon. You know this is my “signature color”.  The cut out sleeves are a great alternative to the cold-shoulder tops, if you haven’t jumped on that band wagon yet and the A-line style is very figure flattering. I don’t think would be my first choice of tops (or outfit period) if I had planned to be foraging through a forest, but it was very comfortable as the MicroModal always is in the heat, and still looked good when we took the “official” shots (which I will share with you on Friday). It is definitely a versatile piece!

Here is a little sneak peek of a better setting.

In the meantime if you would like to head over to the Covered Perfectly website and order the Sexy Peek-A-Boo top, you can.

A Day At The Italian Festival

Things are starting to change, I will get it figured out

Have you ever had a day where everything and everyone irritates the living daylights out of you? Well, let me tell you, I was there on Saturday! I went to the #saturday7amsocialclub aka WW meeting and on to the gym. That was the better part of the day.

When I got home “The Man” was napping, as usual. I proceeded to get a shower and dressed. He got up and said “I guess we can ready and go to Sams”. What? Well that just set me off! I have been cooped up I the house for how long? With the littles “off the chart” do you really think I want to traipse off to the big box store on Saturday morning? I was not going to that store if we starved!!! And since our basement is akin to what I imagine someones who is  preparing for the apocalypse might look like, I don’t think starvation is happening anytime soon.

I have been trying for weeks to go try the butterfly garden and sunflower fields and have yet to get there. I told him I NEEDED to be outside!!!! I wanted fresh air and sunshine! I have still not made it to either of these places….apparently the compromise was to go to Little Italy and the St. Gabrielle’s Festival which occurs every year. Sometimes we go, sometimes we don’t.

It’s basically a street festival where you can eat your way through a couple blocks of vendors. It’s sponsored by one of the local Catholic Churches in the neighborhood.

You can’t see them very good, but there a group of Nonna’s (Nonna is Italian for grandma) sitting back there making Pizzelles. I left the Pizzelles there. You get 10 for $5.00, my thought was I could come home and make many more than 10 for less than $5.00. I did not though. You will see why as you continue reading!

Then you have a group Nonno’s (Non-no is Italian for grandpa) playing Bocce Ball. I say they were the Nonno’s as the majority are the old timers. This a permanent Bocce Ball court and you can almost always find someone there playing a game.

This year the vendors just didn’t do it for me. There was just too much commercial stuff you can get anywhere. Does that make sense?

I did find a bite to eat, go figure, lol! After walking through I decided to have an Arancini.

If you don’t know, Arancini is a rice ball. A fried ball of deliciousness. I had a choice of sausage and peppers or crab and shrimp. I chose the crab and shrimp!

In my mind the seafood was healthier, hahaha! I just had to get a cup of wine to wash it down….there’s nothing like some wine in a plastic Dixie cup, lol!

The man caught me checking out the Alfa Romero’s on display!

A girl can dream, right? Unfortunately or maybe fortunately they don’t make a “bus”….but, if I go take a test drive I can get a $25 gift card and $250 off, lol!!! I think I’ll pass. I’m quite sure I would love the way it drives and want to take home. Not only do I hate having a car payment, and I have one with the bus, it is not practical for me right now with all the grand littles. And the man does not need that for a work vehicle, although I’m sure he would think otherwise.

I was looking to see where he had wandered off to. The dress is from WHBM. It is mainly navy with some light blue, tan, yellow, and white. I like it with my tan Vince Camuto sandals and yellow, cream and tan cross body bag (both from HSN). You can’t see my jewelry very good, but I have on a pair of dangle earrings that I got in Italy (in Epcot at Disney last year, lol). That’s likely the closest I will ever get….the blue bracelet on my left arm is Plunder and called Ritta. It is a narrow denim bangle type with gold and silver along with a row of rhinestones and is one of the new magnetic closures. They are so easy to put in and take off! My other bracelets are a combination of Plunder and one of my Pandora bracelets. I don’t think this dress needs a necklace.

On the way out of the festival we had to stop by a local Italian bakery; Vaccaro’s. I just “had” to get some cannoli chips and dip.

Can you say yum? I only get what they call an individual serving (it’s more than I need) but they give you enough cream for what I don’t know….fyi, I got a homemade mango gelato too….

Later in the day “The Man” thought we should go to the mall….we were only at the festival maybe 30-45 minutes. It doesn’t take long to walk through, unless you eat and drink your way through. Now what part of being outside did he forget? We went and I bought NOTHING! Can you believe that? I even spent almost and hour in WHBM trying on things, and although I liked them, they were in sale, and I had coupons but I found no joy in being there.

It finally dawned on me after I completely snapped at him, my hormones are getting out of whack; way out of whack (ladies I imagine some of you know what I mean)….. This may be why the littles are so on my last nerve too, besides this eclipse business which I’m still convinced has had an effect on moods. Times are starting to change….this is going to be a challenge.

As I pondered what was going on the rest of the weekend, I started putting two and two together. I started noticing more than a month ago I would got to bed freezing then I was waking during night with what I’m now believe were hot flashes. At the time I kind of chalked it up to it being summer and the nights being so hot and humid and such. I can also cry, just for the sake of crying; happy I can cry, sad I can cry, angry I can cry (after I let loose with both barrels). Then I started doing some more math and realized it’s also been about three months since that monthly annoyance has visited. Now I knew it had been a little while, but wasn’t thinking it was that long. I’m sure you know I don’t really mind that. It’s the rest that comes along when she leaves that is going to cause problems, if I’m not careful. Let’s hope I can through this with out completely going around the bend. And I have thought a couple of times I was careening around it pretty darn fast!

Ironically I thought this was done and over with several years ago. I started taking a bio-identical progesterone during my 40s due to some imbalances, and going through some of the same things. After a period of time my cycle stopped. My GYN and I thought after more than a year, it was done and For six years or so, nothing! Then I started losing weight and after losing 35 pounds, guess what returned? Just as if it had never left….😡 I also stopped the progesterone as I felt great and my doctor and I decided if I didn’t need it there was no sense in continuing to take it and I could restart it at anytime I needed to. So for the past almost three years things have been great. Guess who I called today? Yes, it’s time to revisit some alternatives. If not I think I am going to go mad. Yoga and other exercise hasn’t helped. It does while I’m there, but so far long-term it’s not doing it. I’m now wondering if this is a factor in some of the weight I’ve gained back. There are so many changes going with my body; the increasing activity and now the likely hormonal changes. If it is indeed a factor I will most definitely need to be more diligent with my diet and work this out. It may well explain the increasing cravings for things I generally could care less about. I will get this figured out! Hopefully sooner rather than later.

So friends have you been there, done that yet? How have you fared? How/what did you do to get through it? Any thoughts/words of wisdom will be appreciated. I’m sure there are others who may want to know too! As women we are all in this together!

After all that my daughter came home and wanted to know if I wanted to go Sunday afternoon and get some pictures for the blog. Just wait until see what we got into….I still can’t believe it!

Neutrals With A Pop of Color

TGIF! We have made it to the weekend! We have nothing planned around here, at the moment, but that is always subject to change. It is “The Mans” Saturday to work so that will likely limit what we decide to do. I imagine we will stay fairly close to home after traveling last weekend. Maybe I can plan that “me” weekend I told you about last week! Or maybe I already have. My yoga teacher training starts in three weeks. YIKES! For one weekend a month for the next nine months I will be doing nothing but something for me. Apparently I should expect it to be quite intense and reentry into regular life may be challenging. It’s so exciting and scary! Do y’all have anything exciting planned? Please share.

I have already told you a bit about our trip to the outlets last weekend. Our school shopping was a success. We were not quite sure how the day would pan out as the weather was subject (according to the powers that be) to be pretty iffy. Thunderstorms were called for at home and there. It actually turned out to be a beautiful day after a few early morning showers; until we were about halfway home. Then the bottom fell out for quite a ways!

I had planned on getting some pictures for the blog and managed a few, but like I told you earlier I was not happy with them. We didn’t take the camera because we didn’t want to be “bothered” with it. I have the iPhone7 and the camera is supposed to be the best thing ever. Maybe more practice is needed.

We did find a great old covered bridge to use for the pictures. It is still used by Amish for taking buggy tours over.

Even though rain/storms were called for the temperature was still supposed to be in the 80s, I wanted to be cool and comfortable, but still look stylish and put together.

I decided on a tank top and maxi skirt.

This tank is the SIMPLE SCOOP NECK TANK in gray from Covered Perfectly. It wears beautifully, the straps are wide enough that you don’t have to worry about your other straps showing, and like other Covered Perfectly tops it just skims and flows over your body. The MicroModal fabric is the best. We took these photos on the way home and after traveling and shopping all day. It wasn’t wrinkled and stayed cool, even in the heat and humidity. I am wearing a small. Did you know Covered Perfectly is made right here in the USA? I paired it with a maxi skirt from Legging Army, this pattern is called Picture Perfect. I haven’t mentioned the Legging Army maxis before, because as fast as they were launched they were selling out. I couldn’t write fast enough, lol! This is the first one I’ve gotten. There are a variety of patterns. I will be getting more. Several of the maxi styles are on sale (this one included) along with shorts, and athletic wear; while they last.

This special applies to any combination of items storewide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied
automatically. Only one of the discounts will work. Start shopping!

I wore the August Plunder Posse for a pop of color against the neutral pallet of the gray. Even though there are several colors in the skirt they are all neutrals. The burgundy of the necklace is a perfect color with gray. At least in my opinion. It doesn’t hurt that it’s my “signature” color. The discs in the necklace and earrings work back to the circle patterns in the skirt. It’s was almost as if they were made for each other! The bracelets are the magnetic bling bracelets that I’ve showed you before. I wore Tina, which is a pinky/purple color. It was one of the Mother’s Day specials and is no longer available. The black one is called Ezra and the other one is Flynn which has iridescent stones.

If you aren’t familiar with the Plunder Posse it is a jewelry subscription, much like Ipsy, Birch Box, Graze, etc; where for $25 per month including tax and shipping you receive 1-3 pieces of Plunder Jewelry that is not in the catalog. Now is a great time to sign up because it’s the middle of the month. That allows you to see in advance what that months selection is and if you don’t like it you can cancel and sign back up the next month or even get it and give as a gift. Think Secret Sisters, Secret Santa’s, and Teachers gifts! You could have the perfect unique gift for someone, that doesn’t break the bank.

My daughter, Amanda, was doing the picture taking, and decided I should climb up on a ledge….now y’all know I’m short, right? So it was quite a feat for me to get up there. It may not look too high from the inside, but when you aren’t very tall…..and in a skirt…..it was comical!

Have I told you I have a fear of heights too?

Can you believe she wanted me to stand on the narrow part of the ledge, in front of the red part of the bridge?

I did not. It wasn’t much bigger than my feet, and I have small feet. That was a long way down. I may be half crazy, but not totally, lol.

Some details inside the bridge
