Highlights From May

May was a busy, strange month, lol! The weather couldn’t decided if wanted to be spring or winter. It actually rained here for 22 out of 31 days! We had the FlowerMart and Preakness here. It was Mother’s Day.  I made some hosting changes with the blog (I thought that was going to “do me in”).  Talk about “teaching an old dog new tricks”…..I did my first ever review for Covered Perfectly, it has been published on their blog and I will doing an interview for them soon. The Style Club had the accessory challenge. I didn’t participate in all of them, and inadvertently combined a few, but I did manage to participate. I made it through the first month of training with Jeff twice a week (and he didn’t kill me, yet). I attended a powerlifting meet and met another lady powerlifter in the masters division. I will be telling you more about her soon. And last, but not least, I participated in my first Fierce 50 Follow Friday as part of The Fierce 50 Revolution, on Instagram. It was just busy, busy, busy.

If you missed my review of the Fun and Flirty Fit and Flare for Covered Perfectly you can read all about it here.

If you shop with Covered Perfectly and use the code GG20 you can take 20% off on up to two items. The best deal is always the buy 2 get the 3rd item free.
This was the May schedule for the Style Club; I actively participated in 1, 2, 5, and 7 but I actually had some element of all but 6 in almost all of my looks, so I recycled a few pictures, lol!

This was from our day at the FlowerMart. The focus for this challenge was the necklace. It wasn’t until I was ready to post it I realized I had combined it with the Hat and Purse challenge! The necklace is a Plunder piece that has been retired.

Next was the scarf challenge, and what a challenge it was for me! I can do scarfs in the winter, but spring/summer has me baffled. Even after the challenge. This scarf came from JJill and I was got on clearance earlier in the year.

I decided to use the first challenge pictures and make the bag the focus for the bag challenge, since it was new and I got because of the color and it fitting in with the greenery color of the year. I ordered from HSN.

But for the hat challenge! Yes, the first group encompassed a hat and would have worked just fine, but I went out and got myself a new hat! I spent and insane amount of money for a Preakness Hat (ok not as insane as it could have been, but more than I have ever spent on a hat)! This fabulous hat came from Christine A. Moore. She had a trunk show at our local HatsInTheBelfry store for Preakness and I just had to go….ok I just mentioned it being there “The Man” talked me into going. So that makes it his fault I bought a new hat, right?

This was my sunglasses challenge look. I just had to get these sunnies because they were different from my norm and that makes them fun! And the group insisted sunglasses are meant to be fun!

What do you think of the May challenge? Have you had a chance to check out the 40plusstyleclub? Have you registered for the waiting list? I know we just had a flurry of new members come on board for June. I hope to see you there.

The Fierce 50 Revolution is starting to take off and is gaining momentum. I enjoyed the Friday Follow and learning more about some of my new Fierce Sisters. You can read about them here. Together we are aiming to change the perception of women in mid-age and beyond! If you haven’t already you can go the Facebook page The Fierce 50 Revolution and join us. Let your voice be heard!

Fierce 50 Follow Friday

Let your voice be heard now

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in my first #fierce50followfriday on Instagram.

I have briefly mentioned The Fierce 50 Revolution to you before. Earlier this year a group of 50+ bloggers came together to form The Fierce 50 Campaign; to support each other and raise awareness to those of us in Mid-life. From that The Fierce 50 Revolution was born. The purpose is to raise our voice, awareness, and shift the perception of women over 50! Just because we may be of a “certain age” we are not to be ignored! We are a force to be reckoned with!

These ladies are four of my new “Fierce Sisters”!

You should head over to follow and support these Fierce Women on IG. Their handles along with their websites are below.

I asked each of them the following question:

How do you hope/want to inspire others (those in mid-life and those who haven’t even thought about it yet)?

Here are their answers!

Sheila @fattofabover50 “lost her sparkle” during the years of raising a family and building her business (who else can relate to that?). She is reinventing and reclaiming her life! You can find her blog here.

Lori @gerontologistloricampbell said that “it’s her hearts desire to inspire and motivate people of all ages, but primarily millennials to”: practice prevention, value health and live their values, establish healthy lifestyle/mindset practices, embrace their aging journey, own it. you can also find Lori here.

Rosie @themidlifeaesthetic feels that “using your own life as an example is the best way to give women hope”. “When she shares her own personal journey of loss, she can see them perk up”. A phrase she loves is “we are all walking each other home”. She said “that is how I feel about other mid-life women”! You can find Rosie’s blog here.

Robin @weight_loss_pro_robin said she “hopes to inspire others that they CAN do anything they want” she is on a quest to lose 150 lbs and is half way there! It hasn’t been easy, but she isn’t giving up! Robin’s blog can be found here.

How do YOU hope/want to inspire others? Now or when you get to a “certain age”? Comment and let me know!

Have you already joined The Fierce 50 Revolution? If not; all you need to do is go to the Facebook page: The Fierce 50 Revolution and click join! It doesn’t cost a thing and you don’t even need to be 50+, or a blogger. You younger ladies are welcome to join The Revolution too. After all you, will be joining us one day! Let your voice be heard, now!

We truly are better and stronger together!

If you haven’t already signed up for the blog email, you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. You can also follow my social media sites through the pop up or by clicking the following links:Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin. May Style Club Challenge

Can you guess my favorite

Last month the style club challenges were focused on “hiding your belly”. I did not participate in all of the challenges, because there was just so much going on. I am hoping to be much more active for May. This months theme is: Accessories Essentials.  So we will be focusing on accessories and week one was necklaces and choosing the perfect necklace for your outfit. The challenge for this week was to wear an outfit and elevate the look with a necklace.

Have you signed up for the 40+style club yet? If not you can do so here and get on the waiting list.

For the week one exercise, I actually managed to wrap three separate challenges into one; necklace, hat, and bag, without even realizing it until I had already taken photographs, you may see a lot of the same photos this go round, lol! I will try to focus on just the necklaces today though. Here I used a statement necklace, along with other accessories to step up a simple sleeveless top and jeans. The black jeans you’ve seen before, they are just good ole’ Levis, the top is a couple of years old and I’m not really sure where I got it, but it wasn’t anywhere special. It may have been Sam’s Club, but I’m not 100% sure, and the bag came from HSN. It is part of the Joy/Iman collection. I bought it for the color and it has great pockets, but I’m not sure about keeping it. The hat came from a local shop last year.

This look was part of yesterdays post and if you haven’t read it you can do so here. This necklace is bold enough that it works with the V neck of the blouse. It is often recommended to wear a V-shaped necklace to fill in the decolletage area on a V neck, but this was low enough and the design worked.

The accessories elevated this simple look, but did not over power it. What do you think?

In the outfit below I changed up the jewelry and shoes to change to over all feel of the outfit. The clothes are the same. With a scoop neck top a bib type necklace works well for filling in the void. The floating heart bib on the right with matching earrings does just that and by wearing the wedges with the crops it dresses the casualness of the outfit up.

I changed the necklace and shoes for the photo on the left, to give an overall more casual feel to the same clothes. By adding the longer necklace it adds vertical length and visual interest to the look and brings in the rule of thirds.

The top is the Fit and Flare by covered perfectly. If you haven’t checked them out yet you can click here  or on the banner below to see the entire line and order yours. This is their birthday week and there is a fabulous sale going on through Saturday May 13th.

 <a href="http://“>

As an added bonus: Grandma2Glamma blog readers get 20% OFF on up to two items! Use the discount code GG20 when you checkout at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount code will apply on up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the “Buy 2 get your 3rd FREE” special. This special applies to any combination of items store wide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied automatically. One one of the discounts will work. Start Shopping!

The jewelry is all from Plunder. The floating heart set is from the Valentines specials and is no longer available. The Ezra bangle and the long beautiful pearl strand is from the spring catalog. It is 62 inches of pearls on leather! You know I just had to have it. You can see the entire line by clicking here. It will take you to the party link for May. If you have any problems with that or any of the links;  please let me know.

What do you think of these looks? Which one of these looks do you like best? Can you guess which on is my favorite? I am certainly no fashion icon. I am just a simple girl trying to learn and find what works for me and share it with you. I hope you find some useful ideas and things you like.

The blog reached 50 subscribers yesterday!!! Woo Hoo!!!! The social media sites are growing faster, but the blog itself is starting to catch up!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for liking, commenting and sharing. That is what helps to get the word out! I appreciate all that you do to help with that! If you haven’t already signed up to follow the blog or to receive an email when there’s a new post, you can do so by clicking the FOLLOW button at the bottom of your screen. Easy Peasy, and you will only get an email when there is a new post. Remember you can also follow and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and now on Bloglovin.

Baltimore FlowerMart

Baltimore is a city that is rich in history and culture

Saturday “The Man” and I headed out to the annual Baltimore FlowerMart (current spelling) in the Mt. Vernon area of the city. It is held around the Washington Monument.

It is quite an event and has been held here every year since 1911. It was the first Flower Mart (original spelling) in the nation. If you would like to learn more about FlowerMart and the history you can do so here. The FlowerMart is held the first weekend of May, rain or shine. It is held the weekend of the Kentucky Derby. It kicks off on Friday and goes through the weekend. I consider it Baltimore’s kickoff to the Preakness Stakes which is held here two weeks after the derby. I don’t know if that’s official, but I like the thought. If you are a horse racing fan, you know Preakness is the second leg in the run for the Triple Crown.

I have never been to the Preakness or any other horse race for that matter, but I do enjoy watching and participating in some of the festivities.

There is a grand hat parade at the kickoff on Friday, vendors of all types, flowers and plants (of course), and even a dog parade. Maybe one year I can participate in the hat parade! How fun would that be?

The photo was of above was a lovely display by the For-Win-Ash Garden Club, which is part of the Baltimore City Garden Clubs and a member of The Federated Garden Clubs Of Maryland; you can learn more about them here. As you would walk in the proprietress would say “come in and sip and sit”. Very charming.  I just loved the idea of the plants in teapots and cups. I did the plants a favor and left them there for someone who might be able to keep them alive after taking them home. It is a running joke around here if you want a plant to die, give it to me… I must say though, last year my son and his girlfriend gave me an orchid for Mother’s Day and the plant is still alive. It has been in my house for one year yesterday and isn’t dead yet. There was a bet going on as to how long it would live. It hasn’t bloomed again, but it is alive…..Maybe there is hope, but I wouldn’t put money on it, lol!

Birdbaths made from glass

Since I discovered hats last year I decided to wear one down, even though it wasn’t Friday. I knew there would still be some in attendance; because it’s tradition.

It became very windy at times so hanging onto my hat was a challenge.

I bought this hat towards the end of last summer. I knew it would look good with black and white. It adds just a bit of a pop of color. I don’t usually wear hats with a brim this wide, but I don’t think it is too much. It also has a built-in SPF so it will be good in the summer. I recently purchased the green purse. Since “greenery” is the color of spring and I don’t have much green. I decided to add it with accessories instead of buying new clothes. The boots and black jeans you’ve seen before. These boots have a nice block heel and were very comfortable walking on the brick lined streets. I have found good quality heels to be much more comfortable than most flats, since losing weight. The white top is a couple of years old. Of course I had to add some pearls. After all, “pearls are always appropriate”; to quote Jackie Kennedy.

The lemon and peppermint stick is a FlowerMart tradition and a must have.

I have told you before I am the person that should not wear white on any day that ends in “Y” and this day was no exception. By the time we were done I had dripped lemon juice with red peppermint stains down my shirt….SMH, lol. Fortunately, since we knew the temperature was supposed to start dropping and it was supposed to rain off and on I took a jacket. At least I didn’t look like a total slob the rest of the day.

More of the beautiful flowers for sale

We really enjoy going into the city and partaking in the various activities throughout the year. Baltimore is a city that is rich in history and culture. There is so much to see and do that you rarely need to leave. Some days I just enjoy walking around and looking at the old architecture. Do you enjoy these types of activities? If you are local have you been to FlowerMart?

Change of Mindset

a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do

Thursday “The Man” and I had our annual physical exams. The doctor that we have seen for the past few years has left the practice so we saw someone new. Since my weight has been up a little this month, it was of course up there too. This new person I saw, actually a nurse practitioner, told me I didn’t need to lose anymore weight (which overall I agree with) or lose the couple of pounds to get back to where I was. Is it time to change my way of thinking? Have I been too fixated on a number?

Saturday morning I headed off to the meeting of the #saturday7amsocialclub AKA Weight Watchers. Since this was the first meeting of May I had to weigh in to establish my free lifetime status for the month.  As expected I was up a couple of pounds from my April weigh in. However, when I looked back, I was actually a bit less than I was in May of 2016 when I was carb loading for running the five half marathons in five weeks. So at the end of the day, I guess, I am ok. Last year I had planned that I would be up for the weigh in but I still had a hard time with it mentally. I don’t think you can work hard to lose weight and not be upset with an up number, even if you know why. If there is a solution for that; please let me in on it!

After the meeting I headed off to my session with, my trainer, Jeff. We talked about my “gain”. Jeff is still pretty sure this gain is from adding muscle weight and not a “real” weight gain. He said “there is no way to lift like I have been, fuel properly, and not gain weight”. These are things that I know in my mind. But I’m still not completely convinced that this is where this gain is from; even though I know I have stayed with in my WW points; I also know that I have not always eaten the best food choices the past month.

So I will continue to track my food intake on the WW app, as usual, but I am also going to use the “old fashioned” way and put pen to paper. That way I can just glance back through and see what I did. I will also be tracking my exercise and weight lifting 🏋 more than I have been.

In 2016 WW came out with the “beyond the scale” campaign. The idea behind it is to focus on the whole you not just the number on the scale. That is easier said than done especially when you are trying to lose weight. I will try. Since my goal isn’t to lose, I must now shift my thinking. I just know that I have to keep working the plan and working my training.

I will get my head wrapped around it and make this work.

After my “mental health” session and some warm up, it was time to get to work. Last week I told you I was going to start working with Jeff twice a week instead of once. This was the first week for that. I will now be working with him in Wednesday and Saturday😳! Whose idea was this? What was I thinking? Lol! Wednesday was arm day so Saturday was leg day….squats, squats, and more squats, lol! We kept the weight low and just did a lot of reps! The video below is the last set at the highest  weight we used; 85lbs. I had already done 5 sets of 5 at this weight. This one was to go as many as I could. Jeff stopped me at 12; I was going for 15!

I need to work on getting down a hair lower on these squats. It’s amazing, and mind boggling just how much stuff you need to do/remember to get everything right. Much of it of course is to help prevent injury. No one has ever accused me of being overly coordinated so remembering to put it all together and execute it is a challenge in itself. Picking up heavy stuff is the easy part, hahaha.

I teased Jeff that I was still able to walk around town in heels after leg day. He said he didn’t do his job then….I got up Sunday morning and thought I was going to die, ok not quite, but I could sure feel it! (DOMs) delayed onset muscle soreness is a real thing!!!! I was still able to wear heels though…a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

How are things going for you? Have you experienced weight gains from building muscle after losing weight? How have you reconciled it in your head? Did you find it easy or hard? Do you have any thoughts, tips, or ideas? I’d love to hear from you.

I will, of course, keep you updated.

I appreciate your support, comments, likes, and shares. Please continue to help spread the word. Going Grey Gracefully-To Color or Not To Color

I think my stylist thinks I’m cuckoo

Do you color your hair? Have you accepted going grey gracefully, or are you fighting it til the end? There is no right or wrong answer for it is most certainly a personal and individual choice. But what are your thoughts on coloring your hair?

I found my first grey hair in Feb 1995, oh yes, I remember it vividly. I was 31 years old, and there it was; right up front! I was mortified. I was too young, lol. I called my aunt to tell her…I did not run straight out to buy hair color though. I analyzed it. Yes, that’s right, I studied that bugger for days. I decided it was that pretty white/silvery color and wouldn’t be so bad if they were all that way. Of course there is no way to know with just one grey hair what the rest will be like, and 22 years later I still don’t know!

I decided I didn’t want to color my hair and although I have gone through phases of coloring since. I have not colored my hair to hide the grey. I developed some notion that coloring it would cause it to be an ugly shade of grey and shied away from it. If I must have grey hair, I want pretty grey. I think my stylist thinks I’m cuckoo. After several years, though, I started coloring it on occasion to have a different color. I only colored now and again just for a change. I found I really have no patience for touching up roots every few weeks. I’m a let it grow out and then color the entire head kind of person. I guess that’s ok, but it can look pretty bad; depending on what color you went with. Heck, I don’t even like going for a trim with any regularity. Well, that’s not entirely true. I don’t think far enough in advance to make an appointment with any regularity. I think about needing to go, but take forever to call and get in…..

Both of my grandmothers had beautiful white hair and that’s what I am hoping for. That’s not too much to ask for, is it?

I also found that no matter what color I used (shade or brand) I always ended up with red hair or a red tint for a couple of weeks after. I used one particular brand once, and went with an auburn shade (I figured if it was going to look red why not). It turned out almost neon red! My neighbors across the street didn’t think it was me! They thought “The Man” had moved someone new in!!! You can be sure I never used that brand again!

This picture is one of the last times I colored my hair; a couple of weeks before my sons wedding almost two years ago. As you can see it still looks fairly red on the day of the wedding.

This was not quite a year ago as the color from my last coloring was growing out. If I could have this shade from day one until time to color again; I might color it again. I don’t think there are any guarantees!

And this is now. My own au natural hair. I realized when I looked at this picture I have my own unique color, It is called “tree bark”! Go on in and ask your stylist for this color…

As you can see there is quite a bit of “snow on the mountian top”. Now if only it would just “do its thing” and turn; I would be happy. Or would I? I considered coloring it all grey once (that seems to be quite the rage). I figured that would be a way of knowing what it would look like and if I would like it. I went so far as to talk to my stylist about it. When she told me I would have to bleach all my color out and then color it. I gave that notion up real fast!!! Mother Nature can just take over.

I have a true love/hate relationship with my hair. I go in for a trim and like it for about ten minutes after leave, then it drives me bonkers for a few weeks before I like it again, then it’s time to repeat…..Someone once said I should find a new stylist. I have tried that. I haven’t found one that I like any better than the one I have used for years. If you are local and have any recommendations; I am open. Let me know who you use. Tell me your thoughts. Do you color? Have you recently stopped coloring? Are you going to go down in a blaze of coloring glory? I would love to hear from you and what you think.

Last week was a slow writing week, here on the blog. To say I was preoccupied with all the goings on with Miss Caterina is an understatement. The week certainly did not go the way I had envisioned it. For those who don’t already know you can read about it on last Mondays blog post; www.grandma2glamma.com/things-dont-always-go-as-planned if you do know what was going on, Miss Caterina came home Wednesday and seems to be doing very well! Thank you, everyone, for the prayers and good thoughts.

Have you signed up for the blog email yet? If not, what are you waiting for? I just know you want to be the first to know when the newest edition hits the press, lol! I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to like, share and comment, here and on my social media pages. When you take your time to do that it helps get the blog out to more people. You just never know if something that day is just what someone might need to read.

Facebook is always changing their algorithms and apparently the latest news is they show the pages with the most interaction; those with comments of more than three words and those with love, wow, haha symbols clicked more than just like button. These are getting more showings than others…..so please when you have a few moments in your day head over and show the page some more love. I will greatly appreciate it. The Facebook page Grandma2GlammaToo has reached over 500 followers this past weekend; you can access it at: www.facebook.com/grandma2glammatoo Remember you can also find me on Twitter at: www.twitter.com/@GGlamma, Instagram at: www.instagram.com/Grandma2Glamma, and Pinterest at: www.pinterest.com/Grandma2Glamma

Saturday Strength Training Workout

I was just a bit preoccupied

This was not my typical Saturday. I did attend the meeting of the #saturday7amsocialclub, then headed off to my Saturday morning “torture-uh-training” session with Jeff, as usual. I was anticipating this was going to be a rough workout. I watched what Jeff was doing off and all week on social media and had visions of what was to come….fortunately it was a bit rainy, so somethings didn’t go quite as what he may have had planned. And mind you, I am not complaining! Lol.

It was dead lift week, but we didn’t go too heavy this week. Jeff, wanted to keep it light and work on speed, so we kept the weight at “only” 115 lbs.  Now tell me;  who needs to pick up heavy things fast? Isn’t that like an oxymoron or something?

After we were finished, Jeff, remembered he hadn’t taken pictures and decided, I should do one more set so he could make the video below. He said this was a good training/learning video because it shows me rounding my shoulders instead of keeping my back flat and shoulders locked. I’m curious if that is because we had already done a lot of work and I was getting fatigued and would it have looked different early on? Definitely something to focus on and look at. This week I’m not so sure.

I was just a bit preoccupied, over tired, and had considered canceling (I’ve only done that once or twice when I was too sick to go). If you read yesterday’s post you know why. If not you can read it here: www.grandma2glamma.com/things-don’t-always-go-as-planned

Let me know if you can see and play the video. This is something new I’m trying, and I am not sure it is going to play.

We briefly talked about the possibility of training for and competing in a power-lifting meet. I have half seriously been considering it, but I also know the possibility is off the table since I was selected for the marathon and have to train for that. I think I have decided to go for it once the marathon is over, so, I wanted to start getting an idea of what to work for. I even went so far as to look up the state records for my age and weight class; there aren’t any….I messaged Jeff what I found and he said there must be something and he was going to check. Now really; how many 50+ ladies does he think are rushing to pick up “super heavy stuff”? Only us crazies 😜 with 20 something trainers, who pick up heavy stuff! I checked three different power-lifting federations (?) records and found nothing for MD. I don’t know if Jeff, checked or not, but he hasn’t got back to me with any other information! I should be good to go, right? Lol! It doesn’t hurt to have a plan. It’s even better if you execute said plan.

Seriously though, I can only train for one of these at a time. I will continue lifting and strength training, because it will help with running however, the amount of cardio involved with running affects me being able to train harder for lifting. It does give me time to work on my form and getting stronger. So that is the plan, or at least it’s my plan. Who knows what Jeff will think… My bench press is definitely my weakest link and will need the most work. For some reason in my mind that is the scariest. I think I have a fear of dropping the bar on me….Maybe I better get to work on those push ups….😳I definitely have some shoulder instability, so I should probably work on that. I’m also not the most coordinated person ever. Jeff, has said that has improved though…maybe a tad….somedays.

We shall see.

Muddling Along

Not great but a start in the right direction

It has been a long and challenging week or at least the end to last week was! Remember I told you last week about the hit run involving “The Mans” car? Well somewhere along the way I gave into temptations and had a few days of a “free for all”.

I got up Saturday morning and headed off to the meeting of the #Saturday7amsocialclub up a full 6 pounds from my first of the month weigh in and 5 full pounds from where I was on Wednesday morning!!! After that, off I went to meet with Jeff, my trainer. He was very supportive, and tried to make me feel better by telling me I was just carb-loading for our workout, lol! Now had that really been the case; yes, I would have gained that amount of weight and been “almost” ok with it. But, even I knew better. Of course there were plenty of carbs involved, along with fat and salt and other bits of junk!!!!

He worked my rear off….but then that is nothing new. I did leave ready to get it together. I had decided on Friday that enough was enough and started getting back to my regular way of eating, but lets face it; one day does not undo the damage. We skipped our Saturday date night. I know I had to leave it be. I was also planning on getting “The Man” to take me to breakfast on Sunday (yes there was a method to my madness, Lol). Two meals out was not feasible, under the circumstances. Considering part of the problem was eating take out several days last week, even one meal was pushing it.

I got up Sunday morning and weighed. I usually don’t do that on Sunday; I give the scale a day of rest. I had lost 1 of those interloping pounds. It almost made me rethink going out for breakfast; after all it was a holiday too and I knew what was on the menu for that.

We went anyway and went back to the “Iron Rooster” restaurant I told you about a couple of weeks ago. It was such a beautiful spring morning that they had the glass doors open and outside seating available. We weren’t quite sure about sitting outside so early in the morning yet, so we sat next to the open doors. It was a great mix of fresh air and sunshine.

We got one of those yummy homemade pop tarts to share again and I ordered the sausage gravy biscuit this time. There was only one biscuit, but it was HUGE!!!! I only  ate half of it and brought the rest home. I thought I would eat it later, but did not.

Doesn’t this look just too yummy? And trust me; it is!

On the way home I received a text from Jeff. He was sending some extra workout sets for this week!!! Can you believe that? Didn’t he have anything better to do on Easter Sunday morning? What was he doing spying on me? Maybe I shouldn’t have posted those pictures to instagram, in hopes of winning a gift card for another trip, lol!

Now if you notice, this says Monday. Does that mean I only need to do it one day, haha?  I haven’t heard otherwise, or received another text; as of yet, so? I should probably be careful what I say….I did do it Monday and Tuesday, so far, along with my other workouts; some I haven’t done in a while. He should be proud! Right? Of course, right!

Mondays weigh in was the same as Sundays, so I didn’t do too bad. As of this morning, I am happy to say I have rid myself of a bit more than two of those offending pounds. Not great, but a good start in the right direction. Now to keep the momentum going. Do you think Jeff’s extra curricula activities have contributed?

I have got back on the right food track, at least so far. How did I do it? Well, for starters I refused to go to the grocery store this week. We have enough food in this house to last through a “zombie apocalypse” so you can bet no on is going to go without. I knew a trip to the store would result in more junk food than real food (“The Man” is a junk food junkie, of the worst kind) being bought. By not bringing it in, it can’t be eaten. And lets face it; he doesn’t need it either. I think he insists on going to the store with me because he knows that’s the only way he will junk, lol!

How did you fare over the holiday? Are you fighting to get back on track, or did you have a plan and stick to it? Let me know! We are in the together!

I’m not sure if I’m going to participate in the style challenges for this week. I think it might be too much. We are gearing up for the arrival of the new grand little on Friday. This weekends challenge is: Date Night. If I manage of this weeks, it might be that; providing we go out and the weather is cooperative. That will be the challenge, this week.

I do have some new looks and ideas I want to share with you. I have been approached by Covered Perfectly (I’ve told you about them, previously, and showed some of my own items) to collaborate with them, and have accepted. I am so excited for this opportunity. Stay tuned for more to come.

Struggling

What strategies do you use to “get your head back in the game”

March was an extremely busy month. There was the style challenge, March madness with Plunder, entering the Marine Corps Marathon lottery and getting selected (I’m still in shock over that) and trying to get things going and growing here with the blog. Trying to grow the Facebook page, and getting Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest all set-up. There is so much more to learn than I ever thought. It’s fun, but crazy, and very time-consuming.

Many days I was burning the candle at both ends. In doing so I put “me” on the back burner. Oh I’m sure it sounds like I was doing plenty for “me”. But I wasn’t taking proper care of myself.  I didn’t eat right, I didn’t exercise right,  I didn’t always get enough sleep, it seems I just ran on auto-pilot some days. So of course, I didn’t always make good choices. I would find myself grazing instead of eating a meal, or preparing the quickest thing I could get away with. Reaching for snacks. Snacks in and of themselves aren’t always bad, but when I don’t pay attention to the amount I consume, well, that is where the problem lies, and that can set me up on a slippery slope, to slide backwards and I feel like crap, I don’t sleep well, and I’m cross!

So I’m back to pulling my head out of my backside. Or at least trying. I’ve said this more than once over the past few months, but…. After all I now have a race to get ready for, and it won’t be time to start carb loading for a while, but you can bet come race week; carb load I will, hahaha!

In the meantime though, today, I switched myself to the Weight Watchers “simply filling plan”. I have to find a way to cut out the junk and this is what usually forces me to do that. I eliminate virtually all processed foods, which is what has got me going to far off the ledge. I have had a need, want, desire, obsession, craving (?) call it what you will, but salt and sugar have been my friends, lately. I’ve been able to stay with in my goal weight range, but by the skin of my teeth, and I’m certainly not doing my body any favors. I cannot train properly if I don’t fuel properly either.

If I make through this week, with ALL the littles home all day, since it’s spring break; I might be ok.

What do you do when that happens? What strategies do you use to “get your head back in the game”? Do you have any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions? If so, lay them on me! I need them all.

Wish me luck and send good vibes!

Until the next time.

April Style Challenge Hiding your Belly

Bring on the “mom jeans”

This month, in the style workshop, we are learning what to wear or how to wear clothing to hide those lumps, bumps, and jiggly bits that often appear after a certain age. They may be inevitable, but do we want to show them to the world? Do you want to sit around in some super tight “shape wear” all day to hold it all in? Or would you prefer to be comfortable while camouflaging the rest?

Instead of doing a daily showing/modeling of our selections like last month, we are breaking it up some. Many agreed that it would be more manageable and easier for some to participate.

I have shown you pictures and bared my jiggly wiggly bits with you before, in my before and after photos. I do that to show where I was, and that I although I have lost a significant amount of weight and workout regularly, I do not have a perfect body. While I am proud of how far I’ve come, and I am ok with me and my body, I don’t want those lumps and bumps to show in every outfit I wear either.

As we get older, it’s more likely that most of us will not have a perfect body, even if you have never been overweight. At some point you will lose some muscle tone, and your skin loses elasticity. If you have been active and keep it up, you may fare better than some.

This picture was one of the outfits from last months style challenge. You can see the jiggly parts of my belly and loose skin here. These pants are boyfriend jeans from JJill. They are considered mid-rise, but are low enough that they allow my loose skin to pucker over the top of the waist band. The shirt is also fitted around the bottom, which allows that belly puckering to shine.  The idea of the cardigan is to create a look of thirds instead of a 1/2 ratio. It can also help to camouflage the mid section. Because I am holding it open here; you don’t see that. If the pants had a higher rise it wouldn’t be noticeable either. Bring on the “mom jeans”!!! They are making a comeback, you know.

The picture below was taken at the exact three-year date from my before picture, which is yesterdays post: www.grandma2glamma.com/the-post-that-started-it-all I am wearing the same jeans as above, but with a long sleeve t-shirt. You can still see some of the lumps and bumps, but because the shirt isn’t as tight at the bottom, they aren’t quite as noticeable.

In the photos below those jiggly wiggly bits are not noticeable, but they haven’t gone anywhere, and I’m not wearing torture garments underneath.

Here I am wearing my Legging Army leggings. These are very comfortable and not spandex “suck you in, hold you in” fabric. They are in fact rather loose-fitting. They do have a high waist that covers your belly, but does nothing to hold it in. If you would like to check out Legging Army you can do so here: www.leggingarmy.com/#grandma2glamma The top has a high/low hem, although it isn’t noticeable in the picture. Because it’s a tunic type top, it is fuller and skims the body, so it doesn’t cling to the imperfections. The long necklace also helps to create a vertical line.

This dress below is somewhat fitted, but also drapes enough that it skims the body and doesn’t show off the jiggly bits so much. This is without “foundation garments”. If it were more fitted, the look would be completely different. Those “hold ’em in, suck ’em in” things are needed on occasion, but who wants to wear them every day?

This is that same pair of boyfriend jeans, with a looser fitting shirt. I have also used the “half tuck” here and those lumps and bumps are not noticeable. They haven’t gone anywhere, but they are hidden.

I like these jeans, that’s why I have them. They are the only pair I own that have that low of a rise. I usually don’t buy pants with a low-rise, because of the loose skin over hang. I don’t want to walk around feeling like I need to “tuck in my tummy”. This months exercise is good for helping you to learn to work with and style the body you have.

It’s good for me because the lower belly is where I have the most loose, flabby skin. That’s from having three children (one by c-section) and being overweight and stretching it out. Honestly it isn’t as bad as it could be (I am fortunate) but there’s no amount of working out that will be able to help what’s left either, at least not significantly. That doesn’t mean I will not continue to work out. I can still get stronger and tone my muscles, but I don’t have unrealistic expectations either.

Remember you can sign up for Sylvia’s newsletter at www.40plustyle.com if you haven’t already. You can also get on the waiting list for the course and join the Facebook group.

Our next exercise is “how to dress for a weekend away”. Boy this one should be interesting! Remember last months capsule wardrobe idea? Yeah, I have not learned how to make that work to go away yet, lol!

Let me hear from you. Tell me what you think about a “hide your belly” workshop. Is this something that you need to do or learn? What are your tricks?

Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend? We don’t have any real plans, but I hope to get out and about and into something, lol!

Until the next time
