Do Not Steal Someone’s Moment To Shine

Be happy

Happy Labor Day! The last day of a the long weekend. The beginning to the end of summer. The last day of summer vacation for many school children. Has school already started back in your area? This is the first year in I don’t know how long we are starting back after Labor Day. Are your children/grandchildren ready and excited about the new school year?

Please be aware of bullying. It is such a problem with kids, for sure, but can occur at any age. It is not a new problem by any means, I have come to realize I was bullied in school. It might seem to be getting worse but maybe there wasn’t much attention on it then. So please be aware of your littles being bullied and don’t allow them to bully others.

I hope you have had a great day and a wonderful weekend. My weekend was relatively typical. It started off with the weekly meeting of the #saturday7amsocialclub aka WW for my monthly weigh in (I was down from August, yay) then off to my session with my trainer, Jeff. Saturday was pretty much a “wash out” weather wise, so after I got home we headed to the store! “The Man” finally got his wish, lol! It was such a wet, gray, damp day that I made tomato bisque and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner! Who doesn’t love some comfort food on days like that?

I ran yesterday, not as far as the plan called for, but I did what I could. After missing last weeks 8 mile run (which was a step back week) due to Miss Quinn’s Saturday night, all-night party, this week called for 14 miles. My plan was to go for it. Early in I knew that would be pushing it. So on the fly I devised and implemented plan B, C, D; ect. I ran the 8 I supposed to run last week for time/pace, then turned off my timer and interval reminder and added two more, mainly walking the last one. I was thinking I could work more in next Sunday. What I didn’t think about until after is that I won’t be running this Sunday; it will be the first weekend of Yoga Teacher Training! That means I am going to need to log some miles during this week and keep up with my regular workouts! Heaven help me!

During my run I was thinking about this post and what I would say. I knew what I wanted to write about, but I hope I can make it make sense. I am going to try. It is quite a sore spot, and may become a bit of a ramble.

If you are a regular reader you know that I train with Jeff on Wednesday and Saturday, and that I often post pictures or videos, and write about milestones here. I also share them to my personal Facebook page, as well as instagram and such; as does Jeff. I do this in hopes of encouraging others to take steps to do what they want. To not limit themselves, especially us ladies of a “certain age”. I know that the activities I do may not be for you, but it may help you to see that you can do something you have wanted and thought impossible. Through writing the blog and posting I have found other ladies “of that certain age” who are powerlifters too. Some even older than me! There is a sisterhood and we know we are not alone. I have had some of you write and tell me my story has you thinking about running or lifting. You have realized it’s not impossible. You may not go to the levels I have and may not try to compete, but if you just turn that desire into doing more, you have won!

This past Wednesday was no different. Jeff posted a video and sent it to me to share, which I did. Here it is:

Things were pretty normal, Until a Facebook “friend” made a comment on my post. This was the comment:

“Hope you do not hurt your lower back !!!!!

There’s so many other exercises you are able to do that will work the same muscles that doesn’t have to be this intense js”

This was finally my response.

“There are. But when you’re training to lift heavy and for a powerlifting competition. You lift and train heavy.”

It took me a while to find a way to say something nice. Trust me my first instinct was to lay into her. Why, you may ask?

This is someone who bullied me in junior high/high school (it wasn’t middle school back then).

I was not an athletic kid, I have probably mentioned that a time or two. Honestly, I still don’t consider myself athletic. Team sports were never my thing. I was terrible at them. If you notice, I don’t engage in team activity now. I run races and there are others, but I am competing against myself, to better my time, to challenge me, to test my own endurance. When I do things like run five half marathons in five weeks or a half and full marathon in the same weekend I am competing with me, I am challenging myself. This is same as when I went for that 185 lb deadlift. I had a goal to lift more than the amount I weighed when I returned to WW 3 1/2+ years ago. That was a challenge and suck a “high” for me. There are a host of others in a yoga practice, but in Yoga you work at your pace with your breath and where your body is that day. And with weightlifting I am bettering and competing against myself. Even if I want to go to a competition and maybe set a record.

My first memories of being made fun of because I couldn’t catch a ball or make the kick in kickball etc go back to fifth grade and age 10. I was always the last or next to last picked at recess. Often others actually saying they didn’t want me on the team because I wasn’t good enough.

This certainly felt like that all over again. I don’t believe this came from concern or a place of loving kindness. I found it mean-spirited. Trying to take my success away. This person has recently began attending a boot camp for weight loss. That’s great! I would do nothing but encourage someone to better themselves. Do what works for you, but just because you have jumped on a fitness bandwagon, does not make you an expert. Do not steal someone else’s thunder! Be happy for them and their accomplishment. Cheer for them. It’s ok to acknowledge that it may not be for you, but don’t discourage them. Don’t make them feel wrong. Unless you have been there, side by side training you do not know what they have done to get where they are.

She was a cheerleader back in the day, should she decide to do that again I wouldn’t tell her she shouldn’t be turning flips, doing hand stands, or such. Why must she try to steal my thunder? In all the years through my weight loss and half marathon, marathon trainings she has never responded to a post. Is she jealous? I don’t know. What I do know is that it still rankles and brought back a flood of memories.

She (in my opinion) does not/ has not followed my journey and that’s ok. If she did she would know where I started at and how far I’ve come. She would know that I have been working with a trainer since almost day on and that Jeff and I have been training together for going on three years. That we/I have worked long and hard to get to this point. Jeff knows me and what I am capable of. I did not get here over night. It has taken time. I am still a work in progress. And this isn’t where we are heading for the long run. I must get through my marathon training before we step it up much more. Jeff, also knows if we try something that I am not comfortable doing or don’t think I’m ready for I will not do it or I will stop and try again after training better for it. Yes, he will push/nudge me out of my comfort zone (as will any trainer worth their weight) but he won’t ask me to do something he doesn’t do.

So all of this was to say, if you want to do something, JUST DO IT. Do not let some one tell that you can’t or that you shouldn’t. Follow your heart and dream. If you need to make modifications until you get to where you want to be that’s ok. Just have fun doing it. And encourage those who dare to follow their dream, even if it isn’t yours.

The week of posting three happy things that happened each day has passed. How did you do with yours? I am going to continue to post mine each day on my personal Facebook page, the blog page, and twitter. I will not post them here (unless a few say you like me to, if so let me know) since it is always a day behind.

Have you signed up to receive the blog email? If not you can do so with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page or on the “pop-up”. Peek-A-Boo

It’s Friday, again, a new weekend with new possibilities. New things to explore and get into! Have you made plans yet?

I have decided to start dedicating Friday’s blog post to fashion, that’s not to say there won’t be a fashion post on other days, but I like the idea of “Fashion Friday”. I am borrowing that idea from my friend and fellow blogger Amy Kennedy over at http://www.yourfavoritechapter.com. If you don’t already follow Amy, you should head over, check out her blog, and subscribe.

Today I am sharing my review of the Covered Perfectly Sexy Peek A Boo top. I gave you a sneak peek of this top Tuesday. Did you know, Covered Perfectly is Made in the USA, and is a fairly new, woman owned small business? When Pauline, the owner, of Covered Perfectly asked me if I’d like to do another “official” review for her, I was excited to do so.

DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post. What that means is: I was provided the product for review. If you click on the links in the post and make a purchase, I may make a small commission at no additional cost to you.

I chose the Peek A Boo in Maroon, specifically for the cut outs on the arms and the color (you may know I consider burgundy, wine, maroon my “signature” color). I have not been able to fully jump on the cold shoulder band wagon. I like the look, I like the look on others, but so far I have only found one I like on me. And I don’t wear that very often. For me they aren’t comfortable. And by that I mean the over all fit. I don’t mind the openness of the shoulders, they just don’t seem to “feel” right to me.

The Peek A Boo offers that flirty, open shoulder look and shows a bit of arm, but has more coverage than a regular cold shoulder top. It’s like a perfect union of cold shoulder meets regular sleeves. So, if you are like me and just not a cold shoulder top girl the Peek A Boo may be the perfect alternative for you too!

Are you a fan of the cold shoulder look? If so, Covered Perfectly has you covered there too! And after wearing the Peek A Boo and loving it, I may have to give one a try.

The Sexy Peek A Boo is an A-line cut so it flows and skims your body without accentuating any lumps, bumps, and jiggly wiggly bits you might have. I know I have plenty of those. The Peek A Boo is made from the MicroModal fabric (as are most Covered Perfectly tops) which has great breathability in the heat (or when you may be having your own “personal summer” moments) and you could practically sleep in it and get up and go (see Tuesday’s post for my antics before these photos were taken). They are great to wear while traveling and I always make sure to pack a Covered Perfectly Simple Comfort top when I travel for that reason. I know I can just grab it from the suitcase, change, and go when I get to my destination; if I need to.

If you are a regular follower of the blog, you likely know I am short. I can only claim to be 5′ tall on a 80’s hair day and even then it’s iffy. Although the Covered Perfectly tops do not come in a petite length, they are not too long for me. As you can see they cover my front and rear just enough, but not too much. I am wearing it here with white “pull-on” skinny jeans/jeggings, but I would be able to wear it comfortably with regular jeans, leggings or a dressier pant too. The scoop neckline is perfect for accessorizing and you can see different looks for that here. So ladies, if you are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to try a Covered Perfectly Top. If you are taller they will, obviously, be a bit shorter on you.

What do you think about this fun, fashionable, and Sexy Peek A Boo? I really want to know.

Our Visit to Dutch Wonderland

I’ve shared this previously, so many of you know, we celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary on July 8th, with a trip to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA, with a couple of the grand littles.

Then and Now

We were the first car in the parking lot….had it been up to “The Man” we may have been there even earlier, lol! Ok, we weren’t extremely early and at least we are able to get the “bus” parked, before the parking lot filled up!

This was the first time we had been there, but will likely not be the last. It’s designed for kids. Yes, you moms, dads, and grandparents can ride some of the rides and they are adding a new roller coaster which will be for the older kiddos or adults, but this mainly a littles friendly park!

A little bit on the history of the park

I saw the above plaque on the ground as we were leaving. I thought it a bit ironic, and cool, to learn that the park opened on May 20 (that was the date the “The Man” and I met and we went there on the date we were married). It is also (slightly) older than me, lol! With so many things and places not staying around long, it was nice to see it has stood the test of time.

Before going in we had to measure the kids to see what rides they could ride.

Yay! I’m tall enough to ride all the rides, lol!

Have a look at this cute little chapel in the middle of the park! How cute was that? And just too perfect for the day!

Of course we had to use it as a photo-op to “re-create” a wedding (my idea, lol). It was our anniversary after all! How could I pass up an opportunity like that?

Our wedding guests and “witnesses”, they sure are cute, but I’m not sure how reliable they are, lol! What do think?
Are we done yet?

“The Man” appears to be talking here, Lol! These are the types of photos he usually tries to get of me, hahaha! Is that possibly a real smile? After we left I realized we didn’t get a “kiss” photo. Somehow we never made it back there to do it…..I’m reasonably sure if the “The Man” never saw the lens side of a camera he’d be happy, lol!

Noah and Miss Quinn getting ready to ride the whip!

We found a dinosaur park! Noah has always loved dinosaurs, and knows the names of many from his books.

But to say we were shocked when Noah walked up to the Ankylosaurus and told us the name of it, is an understatement! To our knowledge this is not a species he has read about. I know his reading skills are quite advanced for a six-year-old, but that is a BIG word!

“The Man” and I took a few minutes to ourselves and rode the gondola! Can’t get to wild, you know, lol!

A corn field

The kids rode almost all of the rides they could, then we spent some time at the water park. No pictures there, lol!

But, look what I found! If you are Disney aficionado you will recognize this!

A highlight of the day. Dole Whip! Just like they have at “the mouse house” but the line was nowhere near as long! I enjoyed every bite/sip (I got the float)!

This cute tunic style dress came from Old Navy. When I picked it up I thought it was navy blue, but when I put it on to wear it the first time it looked black, then outside it was navy again. I have gone back and forth and still have no idea what color it is, lol! Maybe it’s like that dress that was going around the internet a couple of years ago, that no one knew what color it was! Remember that? It’s a great summer dress, that will also work well with leggings or jeans. In fact I had my white jeans on the day I bought it and loved the look. I can see it getting a lot of wear for a few seasons. Although you can’t see them here, since “The Man” cut my feet off (better than my head?)but they show in previous photos; I wore my white low-cut converse sneakers. My earrings are Plunder. These are called White Drop and are part of our filigree collection. We have a large variety of earrings in this collection and they are ONLY $8.00! You can click here to go to the website and check them out, while you are there look around and see what else we have to offer. If you have any questions about Plunder jewelry or how to join my team, message me or email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com. The bracelet is part of the Julius set that was a special last month. It sold out really fast as most of them do. I didn’t wear a necklace as I wasn’t sure what kind of rides there were or if I would be fighting with it all day. My cross body bag is one I’ve shared with you before. It is by Sharif and purchased a few years ago from HSN. My sunnies are my prescription ones. I don’t usually wear my contacts when traveling, especially if I don’t know how late we will coming home.

We had a great time. The weather was great, not too hot, which after a week of really hot, humid conditions that was a welcome change! This is a great park to visit if you have little kids. We purchased our tickets a week in advance so we got a bit of discount and the adult price was less than $35.00. “The Man” was even less; since he turned 60 this year he got the senior rate!!!! I don’t think is too bad for a day at an amusement park that almost all littles can enjoy! Food, just like most parks, was overpriced and not the best, but edible. They also had some semblance of healthier options. If you are a camper, they also have a campground and offer cabins. Have you been to Dutch Wonderland? If so, please share your experience with us!

A New Month A New Weigh In

The first Saturday of the month. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know what that means. It’s time for weigh in at the weekly meeting of the #satuday7amsocialclub AKA Weight Watchers. This is the second month in a row that I have had a gain of a couple of pounds. I am still well below goal, but I can’t keep this up and stay there for long!

I have to tell you I’m still no sure how much it is the increase in weightlifting how much is what I’m doing food wise. I went into last week pretty sure I was going to be around the same as last month. I had come to terms with that gain (somewhat).

When I weighted myself on Wednesday I was good. Well Wednesday needs to be taken off the calendar. That is the day I want to eat all the things. Sometimes I do ok, sometimes not. Last week was a not. Ok it wasn’t the worst early, but..then I had my session with Jeff. I came home and ate like a mad woman! I tried to eat mainly protein, but, come Thursday morning that scale was not my friend 😳 not that I was surprised. I almost always have a gain the day after an intense workout. Friday’s WI was the same as Thursday. Instead of leaving well enough alone, I had to compound it by going out to eat (something I try to never do before WI) and got shrimp and crab….now seafood is good and low points, so overall it’s good choice. Right? But this is Baltimore, Land of Old Bay!  Can we say sodium? Yeah, that wasn’t very well thought out! Add another two pounds on to what it was that morning, when it could have been down. Yep, a whole FOUR pounds up from May….still well below goal and free for the month, but not good, but I did do it to myself….

Last weeks meeting was not very well attended. Very unusual for the first of the month, for sure!

I don’t know if it was because it was the week following the holiday and people were out-of-town or if they were in the same boat I was and stayed home.

“The Man” had jokingly said something about going away for the weekend, maybe I should have pushed for it 😳 it might have saved me from myself….or not, but I could have put off weighing for a week, lol!

I left that disaster of a weigh in and headed off to the gym, Jeff and “arm day”! Now Jeff is still insisting a big factor in this gaining is me building muscle and getting stronger. He always reminds me that “he told me this would happen”. I guess that’s an “I told you so”…. He pointed out the work we were doing, the amount of weight I was lifting and working with that day and how much my should stability had improved. I had to agree with that. My upper body has always been my weak spot, but after he said something I was able to see and realize how much better it is. Maybe he is half right?

I am going to try to ride this out, but I must say it is hard!!!!

I have to keep saying this to myself, everyday! For those on their own journey, how are you doing? Do you have your own mantra? What keeps you going when the going gets tough? Now that it’s “almost” summer, do you find it easier or harder to stay on a plan? Let me know what you think!

Remember June is my birthday month! Everyone that comments on the blog will be entered in a weekly drawing for a beautiful piece of Plunder Jewelry and on my actual birthday, one lucky person will win the June Plunder Posse! Seen here!

If you want to sign up to receive the Plunder Posse each month you can do so here. The Plunder Posse is a subscription plan, much like Ipsy, Graze, etc. For $25 each month (which includes tax and shipping) you will receive 1-3 pieces of beautiful plunder jewelry. Your Posse will bill and ship on the same day each month, and you can cancel anytime or stop and start as often as you’d like if there’s a month you just don’t want it. This is a perfect time to sign up because you will be able to see it before time to ship and can decide if you want that month or not. If you have any questions or need help placing your order or have questions about joining the plunder business, email me at: grandma2glamma@gmail.com

The winner of last weeks Plunder piece just for commenting is: Sandy! I will be putting Sandy’s Plunder in the mail by weeks end!

I am off now with Miss Quinn. We are heading out to my little Noah’s end of the year picnic! This is last full week of school. He will only go two half days next week. Where has the time gone?

Fierce 50 Follow Friday

Let your voice be heard now

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in my first #fierce50followfriday on Instagram.

I have briefly mentioned The Fierce 50 Revolution to you before. Earlier this year a group of 50+ bloggers came together to form The Fierce 50 Campaign; to support each other and raise awareness to those of us in Mid-life. From that The Fierce 50 Revolution was born. The purpose is to raise our voice, awareness, and shift the perception of women over 50! Just because we may be of a “certain age” we are not to be ignored! We are a force to be reckoned with!

These ladies are four of my new “Fierce Sisters”!

You should head over to follow and support these Fierce Women on IG. Their handles along with their websites are below.

I asked each of them the following question:

How do you hope/want to inspire others (those in mid-life and those who haven’t even thought about it yet)?

Here are their answers!

Sheila @fattofabover50 “lost her sparkle” during the years of raising a family and building her business (who else can relate to that?). She is reinventing and reclaiming her life! You can find her blog here.

Lori @gerontologistloricampbell said that “it’s her hearts desire to inspire and motivate people of all ages, but primarily millennials to”: practice prevention, value health and live their values, establish healthy lifestyle/mindset practices, embrace their aging journey, own it. you can also find Lori here.

Rosie @themidlifeaesthetic feels that “using your own life as an example is the best way to give women hope”. “When she shares her own personal journey of loss, she can see them perk up”. A phrase she loves is “we are all walking each other home”. She said “that is how I feel about other mid-life women”! You can find Rosie’s blog here.

Robin @weight_loss_pro_robin said she “hopes to inspire others that they CAN do anything they want” she is on a quest to lose 150 lbs and is half way there! It hasn’t been easy, but she isn’t giving up! Robin’s blog can be found here.

How do YOU hope/want to inspire others? Now or when you get to a “certain age”? Comment and let me know!

Have you already joined The Fierce 50 Revolution? If not; all you need to do is go to the Facebook page: The Fierce 50 Revolution and click join! It doesn’t cost a thing and you don’t even need to be 50+, or a blogger. You younger ladies are welcome to join The Revolution too. After all you, will be joining us one day! Let your voice be heard, now!

We truly are better and stronger together!

If you haven’t already signed up for the blog email, you can sign up with the subscribe button at the top right side of the page. I will not share your email with anyone else, you will just be the first to know when there is a new post. You can also follow my social media sites through the pop up or by clicking the following links:Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin. Covered Perfectly Fit and Flare

The 3/4 sleeves are a perfect three season top for my climate

Oh. My. Gosh. I think I am in love! I have shared Covered Perfectly and my Simple Comfort Tops with you before. They are Made in America and Covered Perfectly is a small woman owned company, that is still fairly new. Pauline, the owner, is just fabulous.

I was recently given the opportunity to review a new top and I chose the Fun and Flirty Fit and Flare in Royal Blue you can find it here. I have always thought about ordering this style and I would put in my cart and take it out. So when presented with this opportunity, I chose it. I have no idea why I waited! It is as fabulous as all the others. I did have a hard time deciding how/what to wear it with. There are so many ways I can think of and I can’t wait to style it with all my ideas, but for now I will stick with the first idea I had.

If you remember I have been on the hunt for a pair of crop pants, that look okay on my short self, and I finally found a pair that I like. Can you believe I have bought my second pair of  “distressed” jeans? Don’t tell “The Man”, lol. The Fit and Flare was a perfect complement for them.

We headed out to Sherwood Gardens. I just knew the royal blue would pop against the colors of the flowers. It did not disappoint. I added white wedges for more of a dressy casual feel.  The neckline of this top lends itself to accessorizing with a statement necklace. I decided on a bib of silver floating hearts with matching earrings. I thought it would look great in the setting; adding a little bit of romance…

We then headed out to Ft. Howard, where I decided to change into a pair converse sneakers, for exploring the ruins of an old fort. Of course I had to add some pearls because, you know, I am a blue jeans and pearls kind of girl!

I like both looks, but the sneakers with the crops might be my favorite. The Fit and Flare dressed up the casualness of the distressed jeans. The longer length of the pearl necklace adds a vertical line and visually gives that look of thirds, so that even with the flat shoes/sneakers I don’t look quite as short. Lol, who am I kidding?!?!

I have shown y’all my “lumps and bumps” before. As you can see they are not jumping out at you. That’s just one of the reasons I like the Covered Perfectly Tops so well. They skim your body instead of clinging to those problem areas. The 3/4 length sleeves in many of the styles help to hide those “bat wings” we may develop after a certain age. They are also very comfortable to wear in the summer months and thin enough to layer nicely if needed. This was a beautiful warm, sunny day and I was very comfortable. Knowing I can wear this in the summer and be comfortable while out and about is a great benefit. The 3/4 sleeves are a perfect three season top for my climate.

What do you think about this

May Style Club Challenge

Can you guess my favorite

Last month the style club challenges were focused on “hiding your belly”. I did not participate in all of the challenges, because there was just so much going on. I am hoping to be much more active for May. This months theme is: Accessories Essentials.  So we will be focusing on accessories and week one was necklaces and choosing the perfect necklace for your outfit. The challenge for this week was to wear an outfit and elevate the look with a necklace.

Have you signed up for the 40+style club yet? If not you can do so here and get on the waiting list.

For the week one exercise, I actually managed to wrap three separate challenges into one; necklace, hat, and bag, without even realizing it until I had already taken photographs, you may see a lot of the same photos this go round, lol! I will try to focus on just the necklaces today though. Here I used a statement necklace, along with other accessories to step up a simple sleeveless top and jeans. The black jeans you’ve seen before, they are just good ole’ Levis, the top is a couple of years old and I’m not really sure where I got it, but it wasn’t anywhere special. It may have been Sam’s Club, but I’m not 100% sure, and the bag came from HSN. It is part of the Joy/Iman collection. I bought it for the color and it has great pockets, but I’m not sure about keeping it. The hat came from a local shop last year.

This look was part of yesterdays post and if you haven’t read it you can do so here. This necklace is bold enough that it works with the V neck of the blouse. It is often recommended to wear a V-shaped necklace to fill in the decolletage area on a V neck, but this was low enough and the design worked.

The accessories elevated this simple look, but did not over power it. What do you think?

In the outfit below I changed up the jewelry and shoes to change to over all feel of the outfit. The clothes are the same. With a scoop neck top a bib type necklace works well for filling in the void. The floating heart bib on the right with matching earrings does just that and by wearing the wedges with the crops it dresses the casualness of the outfit up.

I changed the necklace and shoes for the photo on the left, to give an overall more casual feel to the same clothes. By adding the longer necklace it adds vertical length and visual interest to the look and brings in the rule of thirds.

The top is the Fit and Flare by covered perfectly. If you haven’t checked them out yet you can click here  or on the banner below to see the entire line and order yours. This is their birthday week and there is a fabulous sale going on through Saturday May 13th.

As an added bonus: Grandma2Glamma blog readers get 20% OFF on up to two items! Use the discount code GG20 when you checkout at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount code will apply on up to two items. Or you may take advantage of the “Buy 2 get your 3rd FREE” special. This special applies to any combination of items store wide, just add 3 items to your cart and the discount will be applied automatically. One one of the discounts will work. Start Shopping!

The jewelry is all from Plunder. The floating heart set is from the Valentines specials and is no longer available. The Ezra bangle and the long beautiful pearl strand is from the spring catalog. It is 62 inches of pearls on leather! You know I just had to have it. You can see the entire line by clicking here. It will take you to the party link for May. If you have any problems with that or any of the links;  please let me know.

What do you think of these looks? Which one of these looks do you like best? Can you guess which on is my favorite? I am certainly no fashion icon. I am just a simple girl trying to learn and find what works for me and share it with you. I hope you find some useful ideas and things you like.

Muddling Along

Not great but a start in the right direction

It has been a long and challenging week or at least the end to last week was! Remember I told you last week about the hit run involving “The Mans” car? Well somewhere along the way I gave into temptations and had a few days of a “free for all”.

I got up Saturday morning and headed off to the meeting of the #Saturday7amsocialclub up a full 6 pounds from my first of the month weigh in and 5 full pounds from where I was on Wednesday morning!!! After that, off I went to meet with Jeff, my trainer. He was very supportive, and tried to make me feel better by telling me I was just carb-loading for our workout, lol! Now had that really been the case; yes, I would have gained that amount of weight and been “almost” ok with it. But, even I knew better. Of course there were plenty of carbs involved, along with fat and salt and other bits of junk!!!!

He worked my rear off….but then that is nothing new. I did leave ready to get it together. I had decided on Friday that enough was enough and started getting back to my regular way of eating, but lets face it; one day does not undo the damage. We skipped our Saturday date night. I know I had to leave it be. I was also planning on getting “The Man” to take me to breakfast on Sunday (yes there was a method to my madness, Lol). Two meals out was not feasible, under the circumstances. Considering part of the problem was eating take out several days last week, even one meal was pushing it.

I got up Sunday morning and weighed. I usually don’t do that on Sunday; I give the scale a day of rest. I had lost 1 of those interloping pounds. It almost made me rethink going out for breakfast; after all it was a holiday too and I knew what was on the menu for that.

We went anyway and went back to the “Iron Rooster” restaurant I told you about a couple of weeks ago. It was such a beautiful spring morning that they had the glass doors open and outside seating available. We weren’t quite sure about sitting outside so early in the morning yet, so we sat next to the open doors. It was a great mix of fresh air and sunshine.

We got one of those yummy homemade pop tarts to share again and I ordered the sausage gravy biscuit this time. There was only one biscuit, but it was HUGE!!!! I only  ate half of it and brought the rest home. I thought I would eat it later, but did not.

Doesn’t this look just too yummy? And trust me; it is!

On the way home I received a text from Jeff. He was sending some extra workout sets for this week!!! Can you believe that? Didn’t he have anything better to do on Easter Sunday morning? What was he doing spying on me? Maybe I shouldn’t have posted those pictures to instagram, in hopes of winning a gift card for another trip, lol!

Now if you notice, this says Monday. Does that mean I only need to do it one day, haha?  I haven’t heard otherwise, or received another text; as of yet, so? I should probably be careful what I say….I did do it Monday and Tuesday, so far, along with my other workouts; some I haven’t done in a while. He should be proud! Right? Of course, right!

Mondays weigh in was the same as Sundays, so I didn’t do too bad. As of this morning, I am happy to say I have rid myself of a bit more than two of those offending pounds. Not great, but a good start in the right direction. Now to keep the momentum going. Do you think Jeff’s extra curricula activities have contributed?

I have got back on the right food track, at least so far. How did I do it? Well, for starters I refused to go to the grocery store this week. We have enough food in this house to last through a “zombie apocalypse” so you can bet no on is going to go without. I knew a trip to the store would result in more junk food than real food (“The Man” is a junk food junkie, of the worst kind) being bought. By not bringing it in, it can’t be eaten. And lets face it; he doesn’t need it either. I think he insists on going to the store with me because he knows that’s the only way he will junk, lol!

How did you fare over the holiday? Are you fighting to get back on track, or did you have a plan and stick to it? Let me know! We are in the together!

I’m not sure if I’m going to participate in the style challenges for this week. I think it might be too much. We are gearing up for the arrival of the new grand little on Friday. This weekends challenge is: Date Night. If I manage of this weeks, it might be that; providing we go out and the weather is cooperative. That will be the challenge, this week.

I do have some new looks and ideas I want to share with you. I have been approached by Covered Perfectly (I’ve told you about them, previously, and showed some of my own items) to collaborate with them, and have accepted. I am so excited for this opportunity. Stay tuned for more to come.

Hide your Belly Challenge-Lunch with Friends

A perfect look for a casual lunch date

I hope y’all had a wonderful Easter. Did you get into a food coma? If so, I hope you have recovered by now.

Last week the challenge in the style workshop was to dress for going out to lunch with friends. This was a hard one; not hard to find something to wear, but hard because I have no friends to go out with, lol! Or should I say no friends that I socialize with beyond social media anymore…. and most of those are friends that I’ve for more years than either of us care to count, but we also now live hundreds of miles apart; so getting together for “lunch” is not an option.

Apparently when you “retire” early, and become a SAHGMa, you no longer have anything in common with others. Those whom you thought of as friends become acquaintances. I thought it was me, but I have encountered others in some blogging groups in the same boat. But back to the subject; how to dress for lunch out.

I like to be comfortable. I think of this outfit as casually chic, classic, and not too dressy. A perfect look for a casual lunch date with friends; don’t you think?

I think this look is a bit “vanilla”(?). So I added some color with turquoise accessories. I tried adding a pop of color with different shoes and bag, but although it looked ok, this was the better look.

I like color, so I’m not quite sure why I tend to purchase more neutral tones. I think I need to step out of that box more often. I do have a new royal blue top that I will be featuring soon (a little tease for you to look for).

The jeans are DG2jeggings in an indigo wash from HSN. The sleeveless sweater is by Elle and came from Kohls. I like it, but after seeing it in a picture I think it widens my   hips. What do think? The bag is from Michael Kors and the shoes are Life Stride and came from DSW. I don’t wear many flats/loafer type shoes. I have funny shaped feet and it’s hard to find them to fit and look right on my feet.

Here is a close up look at the accessories.

The jewelry is all from Plunder. The two necklaces are retired. The earrings were part of a Plunder Posse. The Posses are limited and only available during the month they are featured. The bracelet is called Selma and is still available. If you would like to order yours; I have a party link open for April www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete2

Remember if you order during the April party and know someone whose name begins with the letter “I”,  I will send you a necklace or bracelet with that letter. I received both in my mystery boxes, and would like to pay them forward. Also if you decide to join me on this Plunder journey in April, I will gift you an extra piece of jewelry in addition to your starter kit. Email me at grandma2glamma@gmail.com if you would like more information.

Have you signed up for the blog email, if not, what are you waiting for? Don’t you just want to know the minute a new post is up, lol? You can also follow me on Facebook at Grandma2GlammaToo, Pinterest and Instagram at Grandma2Glamma and Twitter at @GGlamma. I appreciate you taking your time to comment on, follow and share my posts. The Facebook page has now reached over 400 followers and is closing in on 500! That’s because you have taken your time to like and share the posts with your friends.

Let me know what you think of todays look. Is it a hit or miss? What, if anything, would you change?

Spring Style Challenge Week 2-Day-8

I went wild and tried some print mixing

“Hump Day”. We are coming up on the end of this style exercise. It’s been fun, interesting,  enlightening, and exhausting! I will be glad for a bit of a break. It will give me time to go over all that I’ve done, learned, and I’ll be able to sit down and digest it.

Below is the outfit inspiration for todays look. I bet you know I still have not jumped on that wide-legged pants bandwagon. I haven’t gone out to explore that option anymore either. I’m not saying I won’t, but……

Here is my LOTD-look of the day. Finally, a true cold shoulder top/blouse and flowers combined.  This is my first ever cold shoulder top. For a long time I wouldn’t even consider them, then when I got the nerve to try one; I didn’t like it. It was a sweater though and I think it may have been one reason. Sweater for winter and cold shoulder together doesn’t quite make much sense to me, especially living in the Mid-Atlantic-Maryland the most northern-southern state, lol! Maybe I still have some work to do and a way to go!

I don’t know that I feel completely comfortable in this yet, but I also haven’t been able to actually wear it out. At times I think I look like a linebacker. I’ve recently looked at pictures of others wearing this look; young and older (?) alike and think the same thing, so it’s not just me. Right now I think, I feel more comfortable in sleeveless tops. I have read that many 50+ ladies and bloggers don’t. They feel they have too much back of the arm “waddle”. I do have some, but I also think through exercise it has improved and will continue to improve somewhat. Oh wouldn’t my trainer, Jeff, love for me to want more exercise?  Unfortunately it’s one of those things that comes with maturity though.

I decided to try to dress this look up a bit and tried some different shoes. I even went wild and tried some print mixing. I think I like it! It seems I may have gotten some days assignments confused, LOL. That’s the beauty though, there is no real right or wrong. If it makes  you comfortable and you feel good when you walk out the door, that’s ok by me. I also tried the half tuck which you might be able to see in the photo at the top right. I’m starting to like that look a bit. I find it helps to camouflage some of those “lumps and bumps”.

img_2623
The cold shoulder blouse is new and the one I showed one day last week from my shopping trip to find the wide leg crops. I could have used this as yesterday’s floral top, but saved it for today since it was cold shoulder day. It would have been perfect for both. The khaki cargo type pants are the same ones from yesterday, that I chose to get instead. What do you think of this look? Is it hit or miss? Do you think this top looks better with the skinny pants over the wide leg crops?

A close up of the accessories.

img_1128

The top and pants are both from White House Black Market. The bag is the same cross-body Dooney & Bourke that I showed you last week. I shortened the strap for this look. I felt that would be better with the cold shoulder top. Do you agree? The necklace, earrings, and bracelet are all Plunder. The necklace and earrings are the March Plunder Posse and for the next couple of days you can still get the necklace and earrings here; www.plunderdesign.com/party/janete1/ just look for Posse. The bracelet, called Veda, has sold out. The patterned shoes are a couple of years old and came from PayLess, the burgundy/maroon shoes are a couple of years old also and came from DSW (see I do shop somewhere other HSN, lol).

Have you had a chance to check out Sylvia’s website at www.40plusstyle.com or get on the waiting list for the course? If you’ve thought about updating your style or wondering if you have one, it’s a good place to start. She is also part of the Fierce 50 Movement and bloggers. I will tell you a bit more about that in a few days.

I have been busy this week trying to learn more about this blogging stuff. It seems the more I study, I find more and more I don’t know. I hope I’m learning something.

Please take a minute and let me hear from you. I’d like to know your thoughts on the posts from this challenge. I’m trying to grow my subscriber list on the blog so if you haven’t signed up to follow, you can do so at the bottom of your screen, just click the follow button and enter your email. Easy Peasy.
